The fastest way to make the Boox Note Air6 C useful is to set up one repeatable loop: finish device preparation, tune NeoReader for comfortable pages, keep a clearly named notebook beside each project, and export reviewed annotations at the end of a session. The 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 display combines 300 ppi black-and-white resolution with 150 ppi color, while Android 16, Google Play, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and the included 4,096-level BOOX Pen3 cover reading, handwriting, and app-based research. NeoReader is the hub for PDF highlights, handwriting, links, annotation review, and export; split view keeps that source visible while you write.
What are the Note Air6 C’s capabilities and what is in the box?
The Note Air6 C is a color ePaper reader and writing tablet designed around documents rather than a conventional LCD tablet. Its hardware determines how you should prepare files: black-and-white text is sharper than color graphics, and the included stylus means you can begin handwriting without buying an input accessory.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check the package. Confirm the reader, Pen3, USB-C cable, card-tray eject tool, quick-start guide, and warranty card are present. Inspect the display and stylus before discarding the packaging.
- Charge with the supplied USB-C cable. Start setup with a comfortable charge level so an update or account sync does not stop midway.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. You need a network for account sign-in, firmware downloads, Google Play access, and cloud services. Local documents can still form the core of your library after setup.
- Sign in only to the accounts you will use. Add your BOOX account and the Google account needed for Play Store apps. BOOX identifies Readwise and Zotero among supported third-party cloud services, so add those only if they fit your existing research system.
- Check for firmware updates. BOOX recommends using the latest firmware for the best experience. Install updates before you depend on a particular annotation or synchronization routine; menu wording can change between firmware versions.
- Download the current manual. On the device, open Settings > User Manual. BOOX also provides a web route through the account icon and the User Manual tab, which is useful when you want to search the guide on another screen.
How should I configure NeoReader for books and PDFs?
NeoReader is the main reading and PDF-markup workspace. Begin with its default layout, then make small changes for each document instead of applying aggressive settings everywhere.
Set page geometry and text
Open a book or PDF in NeoReader and adjust the font, margins, and page layout for that file. Reflowable books usually benefit from a readable font size and moderate margins; fixed-layout PDFs often need the original page view so diagrams, columns, and footnotes stay aligned. NeoReader supports more than 20 document formats, so keep the original file type when layout fidelity matters.
Use the front light deliberately
The dual-tone front light lets you blend cooler and warmer light. A cooler setting is generally comfortable in bright daytime conditions, while a warmer setting is less harsh for evening reading. Change brightness and tone together rather than raising brightness alone when the page feels tiring.
Tune refresh and contrast for the document
For ordinary text, start with conservative refresh and contrast settings. Increase refresh when a page turn, diagram, or scanned page leaves visible remnants; raise contrast when a scan is faint. These are practical adjustments based on the device’s refresh and front-light controls, not a claim of a measured speed or battery result. If a setting makes a page look worse, return to the previous value instead of stacking multiple changes.
How do I build a note-taking system that stays searchable?
Create one notebook or folder for each project, course, or book, then keep the same page pattern throughout that collection. The Notes app provides Template Hub layouts plus Insert, Shapes, and Tags tools for consistent pages and retrieval.
Choose a stable structure
- Use a top-level folder for the project or subject.
- Create a notebook for each source, meeting, chapter, or research question rather than one unlimited scratch file.
- Apply a small, repeatable tag vocabulary, such as definition, question, and action. Avoid creating a new tag for every variation of the same idea.
Use a repeatable page pattern
Put the source name and date at the top, key claims and evidence in the body, and a short “next action” or summary at the bottom. Use Shapes for simple diagrams, Insert when you need to place additional material, and a Template Hub layout when a project benefits from consistent boxes or headings. This structure is editorial guidance; it is not required by the software.

Separate capture from processing
During a first pass, write short phrases, arrows, and questions rather than trying to produce polished prose. At the end of the session, turn the most important questions into tags or a follow-up list. That separation keeps the source visible and reduces the temptation to rewrite every paragraph while reading.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Can I read and take notes side by side?
Yes. NeoReader split view places the document beside Notes or Text Note, allowing active reading and cross-reference without repeatedly leaving the source. The Note Air6 C also supports Dual Notes for two notes arranged horizontally or vertically.
- Open the document in NeoReader.
- Invoke the split-view control and choose Notes or Text Note for the second pane.
- Place the source on the side you scan most often and the note pane on the side where your hand or keyboard is most comfortable.
- Record the page or section reference with each substantial note so it remains useful after export.
- For two related notebooks, use Dual Notes and choose a horizontal or vertical arrangement based on the shape of the material.
Split view is most valuable when the note records a decision, question, or connection rather than a transcription of the page. If a document becomes cramped, switch temporarily to a single pane for close reading, then return to split view for synthesis.
How do I annotate a PDF on the Note Air6 C?
Open the PDF in NeoReader and use the annotation bar or floating tools. Keep highlights narrow, add a reason for important marks, and use handwriting where spatial context matters.
Highlight and underline the claim
Select the sentence or short passage that carries the argument, then apply highlighting or underlining. A page covered in color is difficult to review, so mark definitions, evidence, decisions, and wording you must quote. If an entire page matters, write a short margin note explaining why instead of highlighting every line.
Add handwritten reasoning
Use Pen3 for arrows, diagrams, margin questions, and links between passages. Handwriting is especially useful when a mark depends on the position of a figure or table. Keep the first mark brief and add detail in a notebook when the idea grows beyond the page margin.

Attach links when a reference needs follow-up
NeoReader supports links in annotations. Add a document or website link when a citation, source file, or next reading needs to be opened later. Treat the link as a pointer, not as a replacement for recording the page and the reason the reference matters.
Review annotations in one place
Use NeoReader’s annotation review and filtering tools to inspect highlights, underlines, and handwritten pages without paging through the entire file. Filter first by the type of mark you need—for example, handwritten questions—then process those items into your project notebook.
Handle scanned PDFs cautiously
OCR can help recognize text in a scan, but recognition quality depends on the source and firmware. Use OCR as an aid, then compare the recognized wording with the image before relying on names, numbers, quotations, or technical terms. Keep the original scan available so an error can be checked quickly.

How do I export, embed, and sync my annotations?
Finish each reading session with a review pass and an intentional export. NeoReader can export annotations as PNG or PDF, and handwritten notes can be embedded into the original PDF.
- Review first. Open the contents or annotation area and inspect highlighted and handwritten pages. Remove marks that no longer carry meaning and clarify questions that you can already answer.
- Choose the output. Use a PNG when a single marked page is easiest to share; use a PDF when the recipient needs a multi-page record. Embedding handwriting in the original PDF keeps marks with their source file.
- Preserve an untouched original. Export a clean annotated copy and retain the source PDF separately. This makes it possible to try a different export layout without losing the unmodified document.
- Use cloud review when it fits your workflow. BOOX guidance describes reviewing annotations online through BOOX cloud tools and tracking reading progress. Confirm that the account and network connection are active before expecting a new export to appear online.
- Process the export. Move decisions, tasks, and durable findings into the project notebook or your existing knowledge system. An exported highlight file is an intermediate record, not a finished research result.
Android 16 and Google Play also let you add compatible reading or research applications. BOOX specifically names Readwise and Zotero as supported third-party cloud services; availability and behavior can depend on the service, account, and current firmware.
What accessories do I actually need?
Start with the standard package. Pen3 is included, so the only accessory that directly changes the input method is the optional magnetic keyboard cover.

Which setup should I choose for my work?
The device supports several valid workflows. Choose based on how you capture ideas and where the final record must live.
| Decision | Choose this when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Handwriting vs. typing | Handwriting for diagrams, margin questions, and quick capture; keyboard for long drafts | Handwriting preserves spatial context, while typing is faster for extended prose. |
| Single document vs. split view | Single pane for close reading; split view for cross-reference and synthesis | Split view keeps context visible but gives each pane less space. |
| Embedded marks vs. separate notes | Embed marks when the PDF itself is the deliverable; use a notebook when ideas span several sources | Embedded marks travel with the file; separate notes are easier to reorganize. |
| Local files vs. cloud review | Local files for controlled or offline work; cloud tools for review across devices | Cloud review depends on account access and network availability. |
| Included hardware vs. optional keyboard | Use Pen3 for reading and annotation; add the cover only for sustained typing | The keyboard adds cost and regional-availability checks but changes the drafting experience. |
What should I do when something does not work as expected?
The manual or a setting is hard to find
Use Settings > User Manual on the device. If the on-device route is unavailable after a firmware change, sign in to the BOOX account website and open the account icon’s User Manual tab.
A page looks faint or leaves remnants
Return to the document’s NeoReader settings. Raise contrast for a faint scan or increase refresh when remnants remain after page turns; change one setting at a time so you know which adjustment helped.
Split view feels too cramped
Switch to a single pane for dense tables or small diagrams, then reopen split view for note capture. For two notebooks, try the alternate Dual Notes orientation—horizontal instead of vertical, or vice versa.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →OCR produced an unsafe quotation
Compare the recognized text against the scanned image, especially for names, decimal points, minus signs, and footnotes. Correct the wording in your note and keep the image page as the authoritative source.

An export is difficult to use
Review annotations before exporting, choose PNG for an isolated page or PDF for a multi-page record, and keep the original file untouched. If the recipient needs context, include the page number and a short explanation in the accompanying note.
What is a practical daily routine?
- Open the project folder and the source document in NeoReader.
- Set the front light and page layout for the current room and file.
- Use split view when a note must refer to the visible source; otherwise read in a single pane.
- Mark only claims, evidence, questions, and decisions that you will revisit.
- At the end, review annotations, export the appropriate format, and record next actions in the project notebook.
- Sync or review online only after confirming the correct account and destination.
This routine uses the Note Air6 C’s strengths—an ePaper reading surface, precise stylus input, NeoReader annotation tools, and Android-based services—without forcing every document into the same layout.
Frequently Asked Questions
What folder and file names work well for exported annotations?
Use a stable pattern such as Project_Source_YYYY-MM-DD for exports, and keep the original filename in a separate “source” folder. Add a short suffix such as -reviewed or -questions only after you have completed the annotation review.
Should I annotate during the first read or after finishing the document?
Use the first pass to capture only high-value marks and unresolved questions. Do a second pass after the session to remove redundant highlights and convert the remaining questions into actions or research tasks.
How can I check whether OCR is accurate enough to quote?
Compare several random lines against the page image, then deliberately check every name, number, symbol, and footnote you plan to publish. If any of those fail, treat the OCR as a search aid and transcribe quotations from the image instead.
When is an embedded PDF better than a separate notebook?
Embed marks when another person must see your comments in their original page locations, such as a review copy or signed-off draft. Keep a separate notebook when you are combining ideas from multiple PDFs or expect the structure of your notes to change.
