This Itechguide teaches you how to set default printer in Windows 10.
Option 1: Set Default Printer from Printers & Scanners Settings
- Right-click Windows 10 Stat menu and select Settings.
- Then, on the Windows Settings page, click the Devices category.
- On the left pane of the Devices category, click Printers & scanners.
- Then, on the Printers & scanners settings page, scroll down and uncheck Allow Windows 10 Manage my default printer.
If this is checked, Windows will automatically set your default printer to the last printer you used in your current location.
- After unchecking Allow Windows 10 Manage my default printer, scroll up and click on the printer you want to set as default. The printer will display additional options.
- From the displayed options, click Open queue.
- Finally, to set default printer in Windows 10, on the top left of the Printer queue, click Printer and select Set As Default Printer.
Option 2: Set Default Printer from Control Panel
- Type control panel in the Windows 10 search. Then, from the search result, click Control Panel App.
- On the top right of Control Panel, if the View by is not displaying Category, click the drop-down and select Category.
- Once Control Panel view is set to Category, on the Hardware and Sound category, click View devices and printers. Removable devices and printers installed on your PC will be displayed.
On the Printers category, the printer currently set as default will have a tick with green background. If Windows is currently managing your default printer, no printer will be set as default – see the second image below.
- Right-click the printer you want to set as default. Then, from the displayed options, select Set as default printer. The printer will be set as default. If Windows is managing your default printer, when you select Set as default printer, you will receive a prompt – see the second image below.
- On the prompt, click OK.
