Google does not document a general-purpose API for scraping public Google Shopping search results. Its Merchant API is for a merchant’s own Merchant Center data, including products, inventory, and reporting—not an endpoint for searching public Shopping results. If you need public results, first establish that your intended access and use comply with Google’s terms, page instructions, applicable law, and any obligations attached to the data. There is no supported, stable public-results scraper documented in the sources cited here.
What does “scrape Google Shopping” mean?
The phrase can describe two different tasks, and they should not be confused:

- Managing your own product catalog: updating products or inventory and retrieving Merchant Center account information or performance data.
- Collecting public Shopping search results: attempting to extract results shown to users for a search query.
Google’s Merchant API documentation addresses the first task. The official materials cited below do not document it as an API for the second. Calling the Merchant API a “Google Shopping results API” would therefore give the wrong impression.
What Google’s official product-data tools are for
Merchant API: a merchant-account interface
Google announced Merchant API in August 2025 as the successor and primary interface replacing Content API for Shopping. Google’s announcement said Content API would be shut down after August 18, 2026; because API lifecycle details can change, verify the current status and version in Google’s documentation before building or migrating an integration. Merchant API supports programmatic access to Merchant Center account, product, and inventory management and performance reporting. Account access requires permissions and OAuth 2.0. Feeds and structured data: submitting product information
Google describes Merchant Center feeds and product structured data as ways for merchants to share product information with Google. Structured data can help Google understand information on a product page; Merchant Center participation is required for listings in the Google Shopping tab. These are product-submission and display routes, not documented public-results extraction APIs. Google also notes that synchronization across product sources can lag, so prices and availability may not update everywhere at precisely the same time. See Share Your Product Data With Google.
Check the access rules before automating anything
Google’s Terms of Service cover Google Shopping and state that automated access is prohibited when it violates machine-readable instructions on Google pages, giving robots.txt instructions that disallow crawling as an example. The terms also prohibit bypassing systems or protective measures. Google’s wording includes “using automated means to access content from any of our services in violation of the machine-readable instructions on our web pages (for example, robots.txt files that disallow crawling, training, or other activities)”. Read the current Google Terms of Service and the instructions applicable to the pages and method you intend to access.

This is not a universal legal ruling about every possible scraping method. Whether a particular collection, storage, or republication practice is lawful depends on the jurisdiction, method, terms, and intended use. The sources cited here do not establish jurisdiction-specific legal outcomes or determine whether a particular dataset can be republished. Get jurisdiction-specific advice where the consequences matter.
- Do not treat proxy rotation, CAPTCHA avoidance, identity concealment, or other methods of bypassing protective measures as a recommended solution.
- Do not assume that a public page is automatically available for automated collection merely because it can be viewed in a browser.
- Do not assume a selector, page layout, field name, or response format is a supported contract. The cited Google sources do not document the public Shopping interface as a stable scraping API.

For any permitted data collection, define the required fields before choosing a method: product identity, seller, price, availability, country, language, and query context may all matter. Validate the data and record when and under what conditions it was obtained. Product information can vary by country, device, and other factors, and source synchronization can lag; a price or availability value should not be treated as timeless or universally consistent. Compare tools or data sources on coverage, reproducibility, freshness, authorization, maintenance, cost, and the conditions under which data may be reused.

Why a copy-and-run public-results scraper is not appropriate here
A runnable scraper for public Google Shopping pages would require assumptions about permitted automated access and undocumented page behavior. The official sources cited in this article do not supply a supported endpoint, selector map, response schema, or permission that would make such a script reliable to recommend. Avoid relying on a tutorial that presents Merchant API as a public search API or promises stable fields from the public interface without establishing those facts.
If you are building an authorized integration for your own Merchant Center account, use the current Merchant API documentation for authentication, permissions, endpoints, and version-specific examples. If you are evaluating a third-party provider for public product data, independently verify its terms, geographic and query coverage, returned fields, freshness, collection method, and permitted downstream use; no particular provider is endorsed here.

- State the purpose. Separate management of your own catalog from collection of public results.
- Confirm authorization and instructions. Review Google’s current Terms of Service, relevant machine-readable page instructions, applicable law, and any third-party terms that apply to your use.
- Use documented interfaces for documented tasks. For Merchant Center account data, confirm current Merchant API lifecycle, permissions, OAuth requirements, and API version in Google’s official documentation.
- Specify the dataset. Write down the fields, countries, languages, queries, seller coverage, freshness, and reproducibility requirements you actually need.
- Validate and govern the data. Check price and availability against their time and context, respect applicable limits, and resolve whether retention, sharing, and republication are permitted before relying on the data.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Using Merchant API as if it returned public search results: it is documented for Merchant Center account data management and reporting. Use it for its documented merchant use cases, not as a public Shopping scraper.
- Assuming page markup is permanent: the cited sources establish no stable public-interface schema. Do not build a critical workflow around undocumented selectors or fields.
- Treating one observation as universal: results can vary by country, device, and other context. Label observations with their query and context, and avoid extrapolating one capture to all users.
- Assuming price and availability are perfectly synchronized: Google says synchronization across product sources can lag. Validate values when they are used for a consequential comparison.
- Equating technical access with permission: review machine-readable instructions and terms before automating; do not bypass protective measures.
