Ashampoo Backup Pro 27 organizes backup jobs as plans: open or create a plan, choose what to back up and where to store it, then review the plan’s automatic settings. The manual documents Realtime Backup after file changes and an option to start a backup when external storage is connected. For recurring schedules, check the controls in your installed version; the available version 27 manual does not list specific intervals.
Open or create a backup plan
- Open Backup Plans in Backup Pro 27.
- Select an existing plan to view its details and adjust its settings or storage location, or start a new plan.
- Choose the files, folders, or drives to include. File plans can combine smart and manual selection, and can include exclusions.
The Backup Pro 27 manual describes plan setup and editing. Exact labels may vary with the installed version.

Choose what to back up and where to store it
Select the source
Include the files, folders, or drives you need to recover. For file-based plans, review any exclusions so important folders are not omitted.
Choose local or cloud storage
| Destination | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Local storage | A connected external hard drive is a straightforward option. Check its capacity and the vendor’s device-size limitation before choosing it. |
| Cloud storage | Choose a supported cloud destination and provide the required access credentials. The manual says sign-in generally uses the standard browser, except for WebDAV. |
Ashampoo’s requirements page states that partitions or storage devices sized at least 8 TB are unsupported. Treat this as a product constraint when choosing a destination, including a local drive, and check the current requirements before setup.

Choose a backup format
The manual describes two format trade-offs. Choose based on whether convenient access outside Backup Pro or storage efficiency and metadata retention matters more.
| Format behavior | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| More accessible format | Backup contents can be browsed through Windows Explorer. | Uses more storage and ignores extended file attributes. |
| More efficient format | Uses storage more efficiently and retains extended attributes such as permissions and symbolic links. | Contents can be accessed only through Backup Pro. |
Set up automatic backups
Back up when external storage is connected
The version 27 manual documents an option to start a backup when external storage is connected. This is useful when a plan targets a drive that is not permanently attached; check the plan’s settings in your installed version to enable and configure the behavior.
Use Realtime Backup for file changes
The manual also documents Realtime Backup, which backs up after files change. Review the plan’s settings to determine whether this event-based behavior fits the data and destination you selected.
Rank #2
- Professional-grade ripping with sample rates up to 48 kHz (e.g., WAV)
- New AAC audio format support for ripping
- Optional disc ejection after ripping
- Improved CD database for more accurate results across all modules
- Intelligent audiobook detection, even for multi-part files
Check recurring schedule controls in the installed version
If you want backups at recurring times, inspect the plan’s automatic or schedule settings in Backup Pro 27. The available version 27 manual does not establish the exact recurring intervals, so do not assume a particular list of options without checking the interface on your installation.
Prepare for recovery
Create rescue media separately from the backup plan: the manual describes making a bootable USB stick or disc. Rescue media is not itself a backup. Ashampoo says recovery also requires a previous backup made with Backup Pro; for rescue scenarios, it describes a full drive or partition backup as the ideal recovery source. Keep that backup available when you may need to restore the system.
Check compatibility before choosing a destination
Ashampoo lists Windows 10 (x64) and Windows 11 as supported. Its requirements page says ARM processor systems and Windows Server are unsupported, and states that partitions or storage devices sized at least 8 TB are not supported. The page also lists 500 MB of available disk space for installation, internet access for activation, and full administrative rights. These are vendor-stated requirements; consult the requirements page for current details.
