On desktop Chrome, open the webpage, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux (or Command+P on Mac), choose Save as PDF, and wait for the preview to finish rendering. Check the preview for blank pages before saving. Chrome’s documented print workflow has no universal setting that guarantees a blank-free PDF for every long webpage, so use the preview to inspect and adjust the result rather than assuming one option will fix every site.
Save the webpage as a PDF in Chrome
- Open the webpage you want to capture in desktop Chrome.
- Open Print with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Google documents this workflow in Print from Chrome – Computer.
- In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF.
- Wait for Chrome’s preview to render. Check the page count and scan the preview for blank pages or missing content.
- If needed, adjust a relevant print setting, then inspect the preview again before saving. Change one setting at a time so you can see what affects the output.
- When the preview looks right, select Save and choose where to store the PDF.
Print-dialog labels and available controls can vary with Chrome version and operating system. Google’s instructions describe the PDF workflow, but do not promise that a particular setting will eliminate blank pages on every site.
What to check when the preview has blank pages
First note whether the blank pages are already visible in Chrome’s preview or appear only after you save and open the PDF. This observation can help localize where the problem appears, but it does not by itself identify the cause.
Try relevant print controls one at a time
- Pages: If the dialog offers a page-range control, check whether an unintended range is selected. A custom range can limit output, but it does not repair how the page is rendered.
- Layout: Try portrait or landscape if the page’s width is causing awkward pagination.
- Background graphics: Turn this on if important content is missing because it is drawn as a background; it is not a general blank-page fix.
- Scale or fit: If available, adjust scaling to fit the content more appropriately to the paper. The exact label varies, and scaling cannot guarantee clean pagination.
- Selection only: If you intentionally selected part of the page and the dialog offers a selection-only option, verify whether that scope is appropriate.
After each change, wait for the preview to refresh and check the same pages again. The available settings are documented as print controls, not as guaranteed remedies for blank output. Identify where the failure occurs
- Blank pages are visible in preview: The issue is present before saving. Record the affected page URL, Chrome version, and operating system. The reviewed official help does not establish a single cause or universal correction for this symptom.
- Preview looks correct, but the saved PDF has blank pages: Record that difference, along with the same browser and system details. It narrows down when the problem becomes visible, but does not prove a particular mechanism.
- Preview fails to load: Record the exact message and whether it happens on one page or several. Individual community reports describe blank printing and preview failures, but their suggested steps are not established as reliable general fixes: one blank-page report and one “Print Preview Failed” thread.
For a more concrete diagnosis, gather the page URL, Chrome version, operating system, and a description of what the preview and saved PDF each show. The cause may depend on the page and browser environment; the available official guidance explains printing, not a universal blank-page fix.
PDF versus saving a webpage file
Save as PDF creates a PDF through Chrome’s print workflow. Chrome’s separate Save page as command saves webpage files; it is not another way to create the same PDF output. Google describes page saving and PDF handling in Download a file – Computer. If your goal is a portable document, use Print and choose Save as PDF.
