To save a long page with its deferred content, open Save Page WE’s Options and enable Load lazy content, choosing either Scroll Page or Shrink Page. If images already present in the page are missing, also enable Load lazy images in existing content. Then save the page and inspect the resulting HTML file. These options can prompt content to load before capture, but they cannot guarantee a complete offline copy of every page or interaction.
Set up Save Page WE to load lazy content
- Open the target webpage in Firefox or Chrome with Save Page WE installed. The extension listings describe the two browser versions as having the same functions and interface.
- Open Save Page WE’s Options from the toolbar button’s context menu.
- In the saved-items options, turn on Load lazy content and select one of its methods: Scroll Page or Shrink Page.
- If images within content already on the page are not appearing in the saved copy, enable Load lazy images in existing content as well. It is a separate option.
- For pages that populate results a few seconds after the initial load, consider enabling the option to delay starting the save after the page-load event.
- Save using the toolbar button, its context menu, or the Alt+A shortcut. The default output is a single
.htmlfile. - Open the saved file locally and check the sections and images that appeared later on the original page. If content is missing, try the other lazy-content method and review the saved-item tier.
Save Page WE documents both lazy-content methods as alternatives, but does not publish comparative speed, success-rate, or page-length figures. Trying the other method is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that a particular site will work.
Choose what resources to include
The extension saves the page as one HTML file, embedding resources according to the selected saved-item options. Its documentation describes converting external stylesheets into internal stylesheets and storing binary resources such as images and fonts as data URIs.

Choose based on what you need in the local copy: Basic is narrower, Standard includes more image and media resources, and Custom lets you select other types. A saved page represents the state available to the extension when it captures; it is not a complete backup of the website.

What may not work in the offline copy
- Cross-origin frames: Some cannot be saved. Scripts in cross-origin frames are never saved.
- Page scripts: The extension disables scripts by default. An option can allow saved scripts to execute, but enabling scripts does not ensure the original site’s functionality will be available offline.
- Missing resources: Some resources may fail to save. Save Page WE can show a warning or list the resources that were not saved.
- Interactive content: Since the capture reflects the page state at save time and may omit frames, scripts, or resources, do not assume that forms, live data, or other interactions will behave as they did online.
Troubleshoot incomplete or failed saves
Later sections or images are missing
- Confirm Load lazy content is enabled and that either Scroll Page or Shrink Page is selected.
- Try the other method. The documentation does not establish that one works better for a particular class of site.
- For missing images within already-present content, check Load lazy images in existing content.
- If the page fills in after its load event, try the save-delay option.
- Check whether your saved-items tier includes the resource type you need, then reopen the local file to verify.
The save command fails
Save Page WE documents an old and a new save method. The old method remembers the last save location in Firefox and Chrome, but can fail on some pages in Chrome 84 or later. The new method can save pages the old method cannot, but does not remember the last location in Chrome. If one method fails, try the other in the extension’s save-method options. The browser’s own download settings affect where files are saved.
A frame, script, or resource is absent
Check for a warning or list of unsaved resources. A missing cross-origin frame or its script may reflect the extension’s documented limitations, rather than a lazy-loading setting that can be corrected. If a resource failed to save, the resulting local file may remain incomplete.

Browser alternatives and file-format context
Firefox’s built-in save options include Web page, complete, which saves a page with pictures in a directory, and HTML only, which omits pictures and keeps the HTML in one file. Mozilla notes that the complete-page option may not preserve the original HTML link structure. These browser options are alternatives for saving pages, not substitutes for Save Page WE’s documented lazy-content controls.
Chrome’s pageCapture API describes MHTML as one file containing a page and its resources; it can be loaded only from the file system and only in the main frame. That is useful format context, not a recommendation to replace the workflow above.
