To revoke an AI app’s access, disconnect it inside the app, remove its connection in Plaid Portal if it uses Plaid, and check your bank’s third-party access controls. If you gave the app or service your bank username and password, change that password too. Revoking access stops future retrieval; it does not necessarily delete information already copied. If you use ChatGPT Finances, OpenAI says disconnecting the Plaid accounts deletes synced data from OpenAI systems and data associated with that ChatGPT connection from Plaid within 30 days.
What does revoking bank access actually do?
Revocation is about stopping a connection from retrieving more account information. Deletion is a separate request: an AI app, an intermediary such as Plaid, and your bank may each hold different information. Removing access in one place does not automatically remove every copy or revoke other apps’ connections.
First identify how the app connected. A consent-based connection may appear in the app, Plaid Portal, or your bank’s secure data-sharing controls. If you supplied your bank login directly, the service may not appear in those connection lists; changing your bank password is the safest way to block a service that received those credentials, according to Bank of America.

How do I disconnect ChatGPT Finances?
If ChatGPT Finances is available in your account and you connected bank accounts through Plaid, remove those accounts in ChatGPT first. OpenAI says synced account data is deleted from OpenAI systems and data associated with that ChatGPT connection is deleted from Plaid within 30 days after disconnection.

- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings → Apps → Finances.
- Disconnect the Plaid accounts connected to Finances.
- For a separate safeguard, sign in to Plaid Portal and disconnect the ChatGPT connection there as well.
Disconnecting ChatGPT Finances does not affect Plaid connections you authorized for other apps. OpenAI’s 30-day statement applies to synced data from OpenAI systems and data associated with that ChatGPT connection; it is not a blanket deletion deadline for other apps or every copy of your financial data.
How do I remove an app’s access in Plaid Portal?
Plaid Portal lets you see apps and data types connected through Plaid and provides controls for disconnecting an app. Plaid’s Consumer Help Center says you can stop an app from accessing your financial data at any time through the portal.
- Sign in to Plaid Portal.
- Open Overview and select the app you want to disconnect.
- Choose Manage connections, then select Disconnect app.
- Select the financial institution and confirm the disconnection.
This stops future sharing through that connection. It does not erase data the app already collected. If you want the app’s copy removed, contact the app separately. For information held by Plaid, submit a request through Plaid’s Privacy Request Form; Plaid says it cannot modify or delete data held by the third-party app.

Where do I find third-party access controls at my bank?
Look for a connected-app or data-sharing section in your bank’s website or mobile app. Labels and availability differ by institution, so check areas named Security, Privacy, Data sharing, Third-party access, or Connected apps.
Bank of America
Bank of America provides controls for reviewing third-party services and revoking their access to account information. It says you can revoke permission at any time. If a service received your bank credentials rather than a secure connection, Bank of America says changing your bank password is the safest way to block it.
U.S. Bank
U.S. Bank calls its third-party access area My Controls. It says revoking access ends the third party’s ongoing access through the secure connection. As with other bank dashboards, do not assume that every service using shared credentials will be listed there.

If you cannot find a relevant control, contact the bank using the phone number on your card or its official website and ask how to review third-party data-sharing permissions. Avoid sharing your password with anyone who offers to revoke access for you.

Change your bank password promptly, then review the bank’s security settings and recent account activity. A service that received credentials may not appear in the bank’s secure data-sharing list, so a missing entry is not proof that no access was granted.
- Use a new, unique password that you do not use for other services.
- Check whether the bank offers multifactor authentication and enable it if available.
- Review recent transactions and account alerts for activity you do not recognize.
- If you reused the old password elsewhere, change it on those services too.
A password change addresses continued use of the shared credentials; it does not delete transaction data already copied by an app. If you also see a consent-based connection in Plaid Portal or your bank dashboard, revoke that connection separately.

How do I ask for copies of my data to be deleted?
Send separate deletion requests to the organizations that may hold data. Revoking access and requesting deletion solve different problems: the first stops new retrieval through a connection, while the second asks a holder to remove data it already has.
- Contact the AI app. Use its privacy or account settings, or contact its support team, to ask it to delete the bank information and transaction data it holds. Specify the account or connection you mean and keep the confirmation.
- Contact Plaid for Plaid-held data. Use Plaid’s Privacy Request Form. Plaid says it cannot delete or modify the copy held by the third-party app, so that request does not replace contacting the app.
- Check the bank separately if needed. Ask the bank what information its third-party connection records retain and what controls are available. The available options depend on the institution.
For ChatGPT Finances, OpenAI states a 30-day deletion window for synced data from OpenAI systems and data associated with that ChatGPT connection in Plaid after disconnecting. That timing should not be assumed to apply to other AI apps, other Plaid connections, or data stored by a bank.
How can I verify that access is revoked?
Check the connection at the layer where it was authorized, then review your account for unexpected activity. A disconnected app should no longer appear as an active connection in the relevant app, Plaid Portal, or bank control, although the exact status label can vary.

- Reopen the AI app’s connection settings and confirm the account is no longer connected.
- Review Plaid Portal for the app and institution you disconnected.
- Check your bank’s third-party access page for any remaining authorization.
- Review recent transactions and keep transaction alerts and multifactor authentication enabled where offered.
- Save confirmation messages or screenshots for your records, without including full account numbers or other sensitive information.
If a connection still appears active, repeat the disconnection at the service that controls it and contact that service or your bank. If you see a transaction you do not recognize, contact the bank promptly using an official channel rather than waiting for a data-deletion request to finish.

Does deleting my AI app account also remove its bank authorization?
That depends on the app and connection; the official information here does not establish that account deletion automatically revokes bank access. Treat authorization as a separate control and verify it in the app, Plaid Portal, or your bank.
Can the AI app still have transactions after I disconnect it?
Yes. Disconnection prevents future sharing through the connection but does not by itself prove that previously collected records have been erased. Ask the app directly about deletion and retain its response.
