Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse stores its music in the FMOD master.bank file. To install a finished soundtrack mod, back up the original bank, copy the downloaded replacement into Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_Data/StreamingAssets, and launch the game. To restore the original soundtrack, remove the modded bank and put your preserved original back in the same folder. Your Steam library may be on another drive or in a different folder. The reliable way to find the correct location is to open Steam, right-click the game, choose Manage, select Browse local files, then open Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_Data and StreamingAssets. The folder should contain the game’s existing master.bank.
Do not confuse this file with a save file, an executable, or an audio folder. Renaming or replacing the wrong file will not change the soundtrack and can make troubleshooting harder.
How should I back up the original soundtrack?
Make the backup before extracting or copying any mod. A backup is the quickest rollback method and protects you if a replacement has missing events, incorrect looping, or compatibility problems after a game update.
- Close the game completely. If it is still running, FMOD may keep the bank open while you are trying to replace it.
- Open the game’s
StreamingAssetsfolder. - Select the original

Use a name that makes the file’s purpose obvious. The game expects the active file to be named exactly master.bank; your backup can have another name, but it must be renamed back before restoration.
How do I install a finished music replacement bank?
A finished bank installation is a file swap. You do not need to edit individual tracks when the mod author has already built a compatible master.bank.
- Download the replacement from the mod’s official file page and read its requirements and permission notice.
- Extract the archive to a temporary folder. Do not place an entire archive inside
StreamingAssets; the game needs the actual bank file. - Verify that the extracted file is named
master.bank. If the archive contains several variants, use the one identified by the author for Belmont’s Curse. - Open the game’s
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssetsfolder. - Move your original bank out of the way or rename it, for example to
Master.Bank.ORIGINAL. - Copy the replacement
master.bankinto the folder. - Start the game and test more than one area, including a menu, a normal biome, a boss encounter, and a transition or ending if you can reach them.
If Windows asks whether to replace an existing file, stop and verify that your original is safely backed up before confirming. A replacement bank should be the only file named master.bank in the active folder.

What does the Complete Music Replacement SotN-HoD Mix include?
This release also instructs users to unzip the download and replace master.bank. Its advertised scope includes biome music, boss fights, the menu, credits, and endings. That broad scope means it is a full-bank replacement rather than a single-track patch; installing it replaces every event included by that bank.
Keep the original under a distinct name such as Master.Bank.ORIGINAL. If you later install another pack, restore the original first, make a fresh backup, and then install the next replacement. This gives you a known clean starting point instead of stacking unknown modifications.
How do I restore the original soundtrack after installing a mod?
Restoration is the reverse of installation and normally takes less than a minute.
- Exit the game and wait for Steam to finish any active file operation.
- Open
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssets. - Move or delete the modded
master.bank. If you want to keep it for later testing, move it to a separate backup folder rather than leaving two confusing copies in the active directory. - Rename your preserved original file to exactly
master.bank, or copy the external backup back into the folder with that name. - Launch the game and check a location whose music you know well.
If the soundtrack is still altered, look for another copy of the game on a different Steam library drive. You may have restored a backup in an old installation while Steam is launching a newer one. Steam’s Browse local files command identifies the installation that the current library entry uses.
Can I replace only one track instead of the whole soundtrack?
Only if the mod author provides a bank built for that purpose. The game loads named FMOD events from the bank; it does not normally expose a simple in-game setting for selecting an individual replacement file.
A supplied “selected tracks” bank may change only certain biome, boss, menu, credit, or ending events while leaving the rest untouched. Treat it as a complete replacement bank nonetheless: back up the original, install the supplied master.bank, and test every event the author claims to have changed.
Do not delete entries from a bank or rename event files to make your own partial mix unless you understand the project’s FMOD structure. Missing events can produce silence, fallback behavior, or errors instead of preserving the original track.

Building your own soundtrack requires more than converting audio files and copying them into StreamingAssets. The practical sequence is to preserve the original bank, work with a compatible FMOD workflow, replace audio while retaining the game’s expected event and file structure, rebuild the bank, and then install the rebuilt file as master.bank.

- Preserve the source. Copy the original bank to a separate working folder and keep an untouched rollback copy. Never experiment only on the file currently used by the game.
- Identify the bank and event layout. Determine which events correspond to biome, boss, menu, credit, ending, and other music. A replacement must keep the names and routing the game calls.
- Prepare compatible audio. Convert your lawful source material to settings accepted by the project’s FMOD build. Preserve channel layout, looping intent, and approximate loudness unless you have a reason to change them.
- Replace event assets without changing references. Substitute the audio behind an existing event rather than inventing a new event name the game will never request.
- Rebuild the bank. Export a new bank with the expected filename, platform settings, and event metadata. Verify that the rebuild actually contains the events you changed.
- Install and test. Copy the rebuilt file to
StreamingAssetsasmaster.bank, then test normal play, menus, bosses, transitions, credits, and endings. - Keep versioned backups. Save each working bank with a date or descriptive name so you can identify which build introduced a problem.
The available installation pages establish how to place a completed bank, but they do not document an official developer-supported authoring toolchain for Belmont’s Curse. FMOD projects can be sensitive to the exact bank format and runtime version, so a bank built with incompatible tools may fail silently or play only some events.
What must remain compatible inside a custom bank?
- Event names and paths: the game must be able to request the same identifiers it used before.
- Bank filename: the active file must be
master.bankin the game’sStreamingAssetsfolder. - Audio encoding and platform: an unsupported codec, platform target, or channel arrangement can prevent playback.
- Loop metadata: a track that should repeat needs loop points or timeline behavior that matches the event.
- Routing and buses: replacing a sound while bypassing the expected bus can change volume, effects, or mute behavior.
If you cannot inspect and rebuild those elements reliably, use a finished bank from an author who has already packaged the replacement for this game.
Why does the soundtrack loop incorrectly after a replacement?
Looping problems usually come from the replacement bank’s event metadata or from a bank build that does not match the game’s FMOD runtime. Symptoms include a track stopping after one play, restarting with a gap, jumping back to the wrong position, or continuing indefinitely after leaving an area.

A file-page update for the SOTN replacement lists version 1.01 and states that it “fix[es] the soundtrack loop problem.” If you installed an older archive, download the updated file from the same author and replace the bank again after restoring your backup.
Loop troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm that only one active
master.bankexists inStreamingAssets. - Check the mod’s version number and update notes.
- Test the same area after restarting the game; some events do not reload until a fresh launch.
- Test a different area to determine whether the fault affects one event or the whole bank.
- Restore the original bank. If looping returns to normal, the replacement—not the game installation—is the source of the behavior.
- For a custom bank, inspect loop points, transition regions, and event length in the authoring project before rebuilding.
How should I test a music mod for compatibility?
Do not treat a successful launch as proof that every event works. A bank can load while still missing late-game music or using incorrect transitions.
Use a short test route that covers the broadest range of event types:
- Open the title or main menu and verify menu music.
- Enter an ordinary biome and listen through at least one complete repetition.
- Trigger a boss encounter and check whether the transition starts cleanly.
- Change rooms or areas to test stop and restart behavior.
- Reach a credit or ending sequence when practical.
- Quit and relaunch the game to ensure the bank loads consistently after a cold start.
One fan release is explicitly described by its author as an early build. The author also says they “could not test all sounds in game because i’m not that far in the game yet.” That is a warning to treat unvisited areas as unverified, not as evidence that those events are broken.

Use such listings to discover projects, but rely on the individual mod’s version notes and your own test route for installation decisions.

Which approach is best: a finished bank or a custom build?
Choose a finished replacement bank when you want the lowest maintenance and are comfortable with the author’s coverage and permissions. Build a custom bank only when you need specific tracks and can preserve the game’s FMOD structure yourself.

What happens after a game update?
A game update can replace, add, or change files in StreamingAssets, and a mod bank built for an earlier game version may no longer match the runtime. Keep the original bank after every update and test the mod again rather than assuming that a previously working replacement remains compatible.

What permissions apply to fan soundtrack replacements?
Read the permission notice on the individual mod page before extracting, converting, publishing, or sharing its files. Fan replacements can include recordings or edits that the uploader does not permit others to redistribute or convert.
Installing a bank for personal use is different from uploading its audio, mirroring the archive, or incorporating its tracks into another project. Do not extract commercial soundtrack recordings and redistribute them without the rights holder’s permission. If you publish a custom bank, use audio you are authorized to distribute and credit any required contributors exactly as the license requests.

Can Steam verify files without removing my backup?
Yes. Steam’s file-verification process operates on the installed files, while a backup stored outside the game directory is unaffected. Keep your original bank in Documents or another folder before verification, because the process may restore the stock file and remove the active replacement.
After verification, inspect StreamingAssets and decide whether to leave the restored stock bank in place or reinstall the mod. Do not overwrite your only backup with a file produced by verification; retain the original copy you made before modding.

Does changing master.bank affect save files?
The documented procedure changes an installation asset, not a save slot. Even so, keep a recent save backup before experimenting with an early or incompletely tested fan build, especially if a faulty event could interrupt progression.
Can I keep several soundtrack mods installed at once?
You can store several bank files outside the active folder, but the game uses the one named master.bank in StreamingAssets. Give each archive a descriptive name elsewhere and swap only one active bank at a time.
Why does a replacement sound quieter than the original?
