To learn how to put a link in your Instagram bio, open your profile, tap Edit profile, choose Links, select Add external link, paste the complete HTTPS address, add a descriptive title, and save. Instagram’s dedicated Links section creates the clickable profile link; typing a URL into ordinary bio text may leave it as plain text.
Key takeaways
- Instagram’s current mobile-app path is Profile → Edit profile → Links → Add external link.
- Instagram supports multiple profile links, and contemporary reporting describes a limit of up to five, although the limit and labels can vary by account and app version.
- A Linktree, Beacons, or similar page is added as one external link; a third-party link hub is optional for most users.
- A direct link is usually best for one destination because it avoids an extra page and click.
- If a link is not clickable, check that it was added under Links rather than typed into the ordinary bio-description field.
How to put a link in your Instagram bio
The most reliable way to add a clickable Instagram profile link is to use the Instagram mobile app and its dedicated Links control. Instagram may change labels or placement between iPhone, Android, account types, and app releases, but the route is typically:
Profile → Edit profile → Links → Add external link
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture or profile icon.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links. Do not use only the ordinary bio-text field.
- Tap Add external link.
- Paste or type the complete destination URL, including
https://. For example:https://example.com/newsletter. - Enter an optional title. The title becomes the visible label people see when they open your profile links.
- Tap Done, Save, or the equivalent confirmation control shown by your app.
Current walkthroughs show the URL and title fields in this add-link flow; the exact confirmation button can differ by interface version. A current walkthrough of Instagram’s native add-link process illustrates the observed menu path.

What should the link title say?
Use a short label that explains the destination and matches the action you want visitors to take. Useful titles include:
- Shop my presets
- Read the latest article
- Book a consultation
- Join the newsletter
- View my portfolio
Avoid vague labels such as Click here. A descriptive title gives visitors useful context before they open the link.
After saving, return to your public profile and tap the link area to test it. Test the destination on a phone, because a page that works on a desktop may be difficult to use on a small screen.
How many links can you add to an Instagram bio?
Instagram supports multiple profile links, so you do not automatically need Linktree or another link-in-bio service. TechCrunch reported in 2023 that Instagram was rolling out support for up to five links in a bio. Treat five as a reported current limit rather than a permanent guarantee: Instagram can change the limit, and the number shown in your own app takes precedence.
To add another destination, repeat Edit profile → Links → Add external link. You can use native links for destinations such as:
- Your main website
- An online store
- A newsletter signup page
- A YouTube channel
- A booking page
- A portfolio
- A donation page
Do not add every URL simply because Instagram permits several. Put the most important conversion destination first, then add secondary destinations in descending order of importance. A focused list is easier to understand than a collection of unrelated links.

How do you edit, reorder, or remove an Instagram bio link?
Open Profile → Edit profile → Links to manage links that you have already added. The controls may look different on iPhone, Android, and different Instagram account builds.
Recommended Free Tools
- Edit: Tap an existing link and change its URL or title, then save the change.
- Reorder: Look for a drag handle, reorder control, or equivalent option and move the highest-priority link to the top. Instagram may not display the same control on every account.
- Remove: Open the link’s options, use a swipe if your version supports it, or choose Delete or Remove.
Visit the public profile after making changes. If the old order or old destination still appears, close and reopen Instagram or check the profile from another account or a logged-out browser.
How do you add Linktree, Beacons, or another link-in-bio page?
A Linktree, Beacons, or other link hub is added to Instagram in exactly the same way as any other external website: copy the hub’s public URL and add that URL under Links.
- Create and publish your landing page with the provider.
- Copy the page’s public URL.
- In Instagram, open Profile → Edit profile → Links → Add external link.
- Paste the link-hub URL.
- Use a clear title such as All my links, Shop and follow me, or Start here.
- Save and test the page from your public Instagram profile.
A link hub is useful when you need more destinations than Instagram’s native limit, custom buttons, images, videos, email capture, analytics, products, payments, or one permanent URL that can be promoted across several social networks. A link hub can also let you change several destinations on one page without repeatedly editing Instagram.
A link hub is unnecessary when you need only one or two straightforward destinations. Native Instagram links remove an extra tap, avoid dependence on another service, and give visitors a shorter route to the destination. A third-party page can also load slowly, become unavailable, or add branding that you do not control.

| Option | Destinations | Extra page or click | Customization and analytics | Email, selling, or business tools | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram native Links | One or multiple; contemporary reporting describes up to five | No separate link-hub page | Basic titles and ordering; limited presentation control | Not the main purpose of the feature | One to several simple destinations |
| Linktree | Multiple destinations on one page | Yes | Customization and analytics vary by plan | Email collection, commerce, and monetization features vary by plan and country | A recognizable, general-purpose link hub |

Linktree’s official pricing page lists a free tier and paid plans, but prices, billing presentations, and feature availability can vary by country and billing cycle. Linktree also identifies some commerce features as available only in selected countries; check the live plan details before subscribing.
Beacons’ official plans page lists free and paid creator plans. Beacons is potentially more capable than necessary for a simple list of two or three links, and plan limits, seller fees, and feature availability should be checked before purchase.
Later’s official pricing page describes Link in Bio as part of Later’s social-media product ecosystem. Later is most relevant when a clickable or shoppable version of your Instagram content is more useful than a basic button list.
Use this decision guide
- One destination: Add a direct URL to Instagram’s Links section.
- Two to several destinations: Use Instagram’s native multiple links unless you need a custom landing page.
- More destinations than Instagram allows: Use a link hub.
- Products or creator services: Compare Beacons or another store-oriented landing page with your own website.
- Email collection: Use a landing page with a signup form and follow the applicable privacy and consent requirements.
- Tracking campaigns: Use analytics or tagged URLs supplied by the destination platform, provided the resulting URL remains trustworthy and usable.
- Brand control: Consider a branded domain or a provider that supports custom domains, then check domain costs, renewal terms, analytics, and branding-removal requirements.
Why is your Instagram bio link not clickable?
An Instagram bio link may not be clickable because the URL was entered in the wrong field, the address is malformed, the profile change was not saved, or Instagram has not displayed the updated profile correctly. The destination website itself can also be unavailable or redirect incorrectly.
Fix an Instagram link that is missing or not working
- Check the field: Open Edit profile → Links. If the address appears only in the ordinary bio-description field, remove it from there and add it through Add external link.
- Check the address: Replace the URL with the complete HTTPS address, including the correct domain and path. Remove accidental spaces or punctuation pasted after the URL.
- Save again: Finish the flow and wait for the profile to update. Close and reopen Instagram.
- Update the app: Install the latest Instagram version available through your device’s app store. An outdated app or temporary app bug can affect profile editing.
- Check public visibility: View the profile from another account or a logged-out browser. Your own account may show a cached version that other visitors do not see, or the reverse.
- Test the destination separately: Open the URL in a normal mobile browser over both Wi-Fi and mobile data. Check redirects, login requirements, regional availability, and whether the site is offline.
- Check account restrictions: If the Links control is absent or editing repeatedly fails, review Instagram’s account-status and support controls for a feature restriction or temporary editing limitation.
- Remove and re-add: Delete the link, save the profile, then add the complete URL again.
- Report the failure: Use Instagram’s in-app help or report-a-problem flow if the control is missing or consistently fails after the checks above.
Community reports describe links becoming invisible or difficult to edit after account changes, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a universal Instagram rule. Treat a reported failure as an account- or interface-specific symptom until the standard checks are complete.
For general profile-link guidance, consult Meta’s Instagram profile editing help material and the related Instagram profile-link help page. The live Instagram app remains the practical authority for the controls currently available to your account.

Can you add an Instagram bio link from a computer?
Desktop Instagram can expose profile-editing controls, but link management and menu placement vary by web interface, account, and rollout. The Instagram mobile app is the clearest and most reliable route when the desktop site does not show Links or Add external link.

An Instagram profile link is separate from links in Stories, posts, captions, comments, and Reels. A profile link remains on the profile until you edit or remove it, while a Story link sticker is a separate feature with its own placement and availability.
A URL written in a photo caption is not a substitute for the dedicated profile Links section. Do not assume that adding a profile link makes every URL in every caption clickable. A short bio call to action such as Tap the link below can direct visitors to the profile link area.
How can you make an Instagram bio link more effective?
A working link is only the first step. Use a destination and label that make the next action obvious.

- Match the link title to the call to action in your bio. If the bio says “Book a call,” use a title such as Book a consultation.
- Send visitors to a mobile-friendly page that loads quickly over mobile data.
- Avoid a landing page with so many competing buttons that visitors cannot identify the main action.
- Use a stable URL when possible, especially if the same Instagram profile is printed on cards, packaging, or other permanent materials.
- Check the links regularly, particularly after changing domains, payment systems, newsletter providers, or booking software.
- Use tracking parameters when campaign measurement matters, but avoid making the URL excessively long or suspicious-looking.
- Confirm that the destination is safe, functional, and trustworthy before promoting it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add more than one link to my Instagram bio?
Yes. Instagram’s native Links section supports multiple profile links, and contemporary reporting describes support for up to five. The exact limit can change, so follow the number displayed in your own Instagram app.

Do I need a business or creator account to add an Instagram bio link?
The native profile-link flow is commonly available through ordinary profile editing, and the supplied evidence does not verify that a business or creator account is required. If Links is missing, check the app version, account restrictions, and current interface rollout rather than changing account type solely for a link.
Is Linktree required to add multiple Instagram bio links?
No. Instagram’s native multiple-link feature can handle several straightforward destinations without Linktree or another third-party service. A link hub is useful for additional customization, analytics, email capture, commerce, or more destinations than Instagram allows.
Can I put a clickable link in an Instagram caption?
A URL in an Instagram photo caption is not equivalent to a dedicated clickable profile link. Add important destinations through Profile → Edit profile → Links, and use your bio text to tell visitors where to tap.
Can I track clicks on an Instagram bio link?
Instagram’s native Links feature provides limited presentation control compared with dedicated link-hub platforms. For click measurement, use analytics or tagged URLs at the destination, or compare link-hub services whose current plans explicitly include analytics.
The Bottom Line
For most Instagram users, add the destination directly through Profile → Edit profile → Links → Add external link. Use native multiple links for a small set of destinations, and choose Linktree, Beacons, Later Link in Bio, or a similar service only when you genuinely need a larger, customizable, measurable, or commerce-focused landing page.
