Then open the saved PDF and test the links you need: Chrome, Firefox, and Edge document how to print to PDF, but their instructions do not guarantee that links will remain clickable on every page or in every PDF viewer.
Print a webpage to PDF in Chrome
- Open the webpage on your computer.
- Choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- In the print window, choose a PDF destination such as Save as PDF. Adjust available settings, such as pages, layout, or margins.
- Click Print or Save, depending on the dialog, and choose where to save the PDF.
- Open the saved file in a PDF viewer and test the links that matter to you.

Print a webpage to PDF in Firefox
- Open the page and choose the menu button, then Print….
- In print preview, set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Adjust the available options, including page range, orientation, color, paper size, scale, margins, headers and footers, or backgrounds.
- Click Print and save the file.
- Review the PDF’s pagination, content, and links.
Firefox’s preview is useful because web pages can arrange themselves differently for paper than they do on screen. Simplified format appears only where offered, and using it disables the print-background option. See Mozilla’s Firefox printing guide.
Print a webpage to PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac. You can also open Print from the browser menu.
- Choose the available print settings and a PDF destination, then print or save.
- If you need options not shown in the browser dialog, use Print using system dialog. Microsoft lists Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows and Option+Command+P on macOS for opening it.
- Open the resulting PDF and click a few important links.
Edge also supports printing selected webpage content: select the content, then use Print from the context menu. Details are in Microsoft’s Edge printing instructions.

Are links clickable in a PDF from a web page?
They may be, but do not assume every link will work. The official Chrome, Firefox, and Edge instructions describe saving or printing to PDF; they do not promise that links will be preserved across all pages, browser and operating-system versions, or PDF viewers. The page’s markup and print behavior may also matter. This is not a browser ranking or a result from testing a particular setup.
After saving, open the PDF in your normal reader. Move the pointer over or select a few links, then click them. If a link is not usable, try the browser’s own PDF destination rather than a generic virtual printer. Also check whether the original site offers a direct PDF or a reader-friendly version.

Fix common print-to-PDF problems
- The page is cut off or looks different: Check the print preview and adjust orientation, scale, margins, or page range. Web pages can use a separate print layout, so the printed result may differ from the screen.
- Background colors or images are missing: Look for the print-background option in the preview or settings. In Firefox, Simplified format disables the print-background option.
- A link does not work: Test more than one link in the saved file. Retry with the browser’s PDF destination instead of a generic virtual printer, and check for a direct PDF from the site. Link behavior is not universally guaranteed.
- You cannot find a PDF option: Check the destination list in the browser’s print dialog. In Edge, the system print dialog may expose different controls; Microsoft documents its shortcut for Windows and macOS.
- You only need part of the page: In Edge, select the content first and use Print from its context menu.
What about Safari on Mac?
Apple’s Safari instructions describe saving a page as a Web Archive or Page Source using File > Save As. Apple says links in a Web Archive work as long as their destination pages remain available; that is a different format from PDF and does not establish that Safari’s PDF export retains clickable links. For a PDF, use the macOS print-to-PDF route available on your system, then inspect the saved file’s links rather than assuming they work. See Apple’s Safari saving guide.
