To prevent important SaaS account alerts from being missed, configure the event rule and its notification route separately, send alerts to a monitored destination, and assign a primary responder and backup. Then test the path and review its history. An enabled alert does not prove that a notification was delivered, read, or acted on.

Build an alerting process that reaches a person

  1. Pick consequential events. Prioritize account creation, administrator or privilege changes, suspicious sign-ins, possible account compromise, and changes to security settings. Match these needs to the events each service actually supports; not every platform tracks every example.
  2. Enable the relevant rule and confirm its status. Check that the rule is active and that its action is configured to notify. A rule that is inactive or only records activity will not serve as a notification route.
  3. Choose a monitored destination. Use an actively monitored mailbox, approved team channel, or central alerting destination. Name a primary owner and backup, and make sure recipients can access the destination. For groups, check whether their access settings allow external notification senders to post.
  4. Set urgency and frequency. Use severity, thresholds, and trigger frequency to make actionable alerts easier to distinguish from routine activity. Confirm plan requirements and service limits before relying on a setting.
  5. Verify the end-to-end path. Use a supported test notification or safe, controlled event, then check the destination and available alert history or logs. This verifies configuration and telemetry, not that a person read or acted on the message.
  6. Recheck coverage over time. Review recipients and ownership when staff, on-call rotations, groups, or subscriptions change. Keep an explicit escalation path for critical alerts rather than relying on a personal inbox that may go unattended.

Menu names, feature availability, and licensing change. Confirm the current steps and entitlements in each service’s documentation.

Configure alerts in Google Workspace

Google Workspace rules can cover trackable security events such as suspicious logins, compromised devices, leaked passwords, or new users. For an account-creation alert, locate the available rule that corresponds to new-user events in your tenant; do not assume every example is available in every configuration.

  1. In the Admin console, open the relevant alert or rule details and turn on the alert if it is available.
  2. Choose an appropriate severity and select the recipients: all super administrators, named recipients, or a group, as supported by the rule.
  3. Confirm the rule is active and its action says Send notification.
  4. If using a group, check its access configuration so external notification senders can reach it.
  5. Send a supported test notification or trigger a safe event, then inspect the destination. Alert Center emails use UTC timestamps.

Google’s help documentation says a rule can generate a maximum of approximately 300 alerts in a 24-hour period. This is a service limit, not a guarantee that every event will result in a separate message. Google Workspace: Set up alert rules.

Configure alerts in Microsoft Defender

In Microsoft Defender, policy conditions determine which activity generates an alert. Configure the relevant activity condition, trigger frequency, severity, and email recipients; alerts also appear in the Defender portal. Threshold and unusual-activity triggers require qualifying subscriptions, so check availability for your organization’s plan.

  1. Review the available activity conditions and select the event that matches the account or security change you need to detect.
  2. Set the trigger frequency or threshold, then choose severity and email recipients.
  3. Check the policy and subscription requirements, and confirm the alert appears in the Defender portal when a qualifying event occurs.

Microsoft says an unusual-activity baseline can take up to seven days to establish. Alerts based on that baseline are not generated during the establishment period. Do not treat the absence of such alerts during that time as proof that no unusual activity occurred. Microsoft Learn: Anomaly detection policies.

Route Amazon CloudWatch alerts to Slack or SNS

Creating a CloudWatch alert and notifying someone are separate steps. AWS explains: “A new alert sends nothing until you add a notification rule, and you can disable an alert’s notifications without deleting it.”

  1. Create or review the CloudWatch alert and identify the states that matter to responders.
  2. Add a notification rule and select a destination such as Slack or Amazon SNS.
  3. Route warning and critical states as appropriate; configure a recovery-to-OK notice if responders need to know when the condition clears.
  4. Trigger a supported test or safe state change and check the destination.
  5. Review CloudWatch telemetry for alert-state changes, configuration changes, and sent notifications.

CloudWatch retains this alert telemetry for 90 days. It can help diagnose configuration or routing gaps, but it does not establish that a human saw the notification. Amazon CloudWatch documentation: Alarms.

Use Slack audit logs for monitoring, not as a universal alert feed

Slack Enterprise administrators can filter and export audit logs, or use the Audit Logs API to feed a SIEM or custom monitoring tool. The feature requires an Enterprise subscription and an appropriate role. Confirm that the relevant events and permissions are included in the workflow you build.

Slack’s documented security notifications are tied to configured anomaly-event responses. They should not be treated as a general notification feed for every audit event. Slack Audit Logs API.

Diagnose missed or noisy alerts

  • No notice arrived: Check that the event rule is enabled, its status is active, and a notification action or rule is configured. Confirm the intended recipients and destination permissions, then inspect available alert history or logs.
  • Alerts are too frequent: Revisit severity, thresholds, and trigger frequency. Balance fewer interruptions against the risk of suppressing an event that needs action; exact controls and limits depend on the service and plan.
  • No unusual-activity alert appeared: Check whether the platform is still establishing a baseline and whether the organization has the qualifying subscription.
  • A channel or group did not receive the message: Verify membership, access rules, and whether the service is permitted to send into that destination.
  • Ownership changed: Update recipients, the primary responder, the backup, and escalation instructions so alerts do not remain tied to an unattended account.

For broader visibility across multiple SaaS services, platform audit logs and external monitoring integrations can help. Evaluate event coverage, destinations, severity and frequency controls, history, permissions, subscription requirements, and who actively monitors the output. Verify coverage for the events you care about rather than assuming an integration sees everything.
