Prepare by progressing in Monster Hunter Wilds to Hunter Rank 40 and completing “Awaking From a Dream,” then practise the weapon you enjoy using. Ascendance is a paid expansion planned for 2027, and its aerial traversal previews do not yet establish universal aerial attack combos. Its announced weapon feature is Boost Action, used through the Boost Bracer; wait for official weapon-specific updates before relying on particular controls or combos.
What you need before starting Ascendance
Monster Hunter Wilds is required to play the expansion. PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 overview says players must reach Hunter Rank 40 and complete “Awaking From a Dream” to start the expansion story and enter Master Rank. See the PlayStation overview for those stated requirements.

Capcom announced Ascendance for 2027 and described it as adding new quest ranks, locales, monsters, and expanded weapon actions. The announcement said the expansion was in development; check Capcom’s June 8, 2026 announcement for the original release details.
Practise a weapon, not an unconfirmed aerial combo
PlayStation says a free Prologue Demo lets players try all 14 weapon types. Use it, or the base game, to choose a weapon by its handling and role rather than by an unverified claim about aerial damage. Familiarity with a weapon’s ordinary moveset and timing is useful preparation even before the expansion’s final action details are available.

- Players can also now ride atop the Seikret, an agile new mount enabling hunters to traverse difficult terrain, perform actions like sharpening weapons on the move, and switch between two weapons while out on hunts!
- Evolved Hunting Action – The series’ acclaimed action-packed gameplay is back and more exciting than ever! Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
Capcom says Boost Action uses the Boost Bracer to temporarily enhance combat capabilities, with weapon-specific actions across all 14 weapon types. That establishes a new combat feature, but not a finished move list, button sequence, or optimal combo for any particular weapon.
Separate aerial traversal from aerial attacks
A PlayStation hands-on preview describes riding a Seikret through updrafts and gliding among floating landmasses in the Skybound Eyrie. Those are previewed traversal features; they do not establish that every weapon can launch aerial attack combos or that airborne attacks will be central to every hunt. The hands-on report is a development preview, not a final combat guide.

Capcom says further details will come in official updates. When weapon-specific demonstrations are available, compare each weapon on the same practical criteria:
- How complex its controls are.
- How much of its combat is airborne versus grounded.
- How well it reaches or exploits openings.
- How safely it recovers or defends after an attack.
- Whether its regular moveset suits your preferences.
These are useful ways to assess the options, not evidence that one weapon currently leads in aerial combat. Until official final details document the moves, controls, and balance, avoid treating preview footage as a settled combo guide.
