Can you preorder the Switch 2 remake online now?
Yes. Preorders are open for both editions of the 2026 remake. The original 1998 Nintendo 64 release is already in the past; the current preorder is exclusively for the Switch 2 remake, which does not run on the original Nintendo Switch.

The game launches on November 5, 2026. Which preorder format lets you play first?
Digital is the closest option to guaranteed launch-moment access. Physical delivery can meet the street date, while late-night pickup gives you a chance to hold a cartridge shortly after midnight if your local store participates.
Digital Nintendo eShop: the launch-night choice
The US digital price is $59.99. Nintendo’s product page says a preorder “lets you pre-load the game, so you’ll be able to play as soon as the game is released.” Nintendo Support says payment is processed seven days before release and the software pre-loads at that time. For this game, that seven-day point is October 29, 2026.
At release, the console downloads a small unlock rather than the entire game. Nintendo says digital software that is also sold physically will usually become available at 9:00 p.m. PT the night before the physical release date. That makes the expected Americas window 9:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday, November 4, or midnight ET on Thursday, November 5. Nintendo has not published a game-specific unlock minute, so treat that as the normal eShop schedule, not a special guarantee.

The unlock follows the eShop region of your Nintendo Account, not your physical location. Someone traveling abroad should therefore check the account region and its local release schedule before assuming a particular clock time.

Physical mail order: launch-day shipping is not midnight delivery
Amazon and Walmart have listed the cartridge near $59.88–$59.99, roughly $10 below the $69.99 MSRP. Those discounts are preorder promotions and commonly disappear on launch day; confirm the price shown at checkout. Walmart has displayed a November 5 arrival date, although availability was already changing in the final week. Amazon’s preorder price guarantee means it charges when the item ships and applies the lowest eligible price if the listing falls further before release.
An arrival date of November 5 is a carrier promise for that address, not a 12:01 a.m. doorstep delivery. Weather, inventory location and carrier routing can move the package later. Amazon’s live “Release Date Delivery” checkbox for this SKU was not established, so do not assume it will appear for every address.
Nintendo Store physical: direct purchase with a later shipping promise
Nintendo’s US physical listing is $69.99 and has been reported as ships November 5. Shipping on the street date is different from arriving on the street date, so it is a poor choice if your priority is playing on launch morning. Nintendo Store orders of $50 or more qualify for free shipping where the store’s restrictions allow it.
Late-night in-store pickup
Best Buy is holding late-night openings at selected US stores on November 5. Customers who already placed a home-delivery preorder can change it to late-night in-store pickup where the order and store support that option. This requires traveling to the store and potentially standing in line; it is not home delivery.

Nintendo New York has reported a 12 a.m.–2 a.m. ET launch window, and Nintendo San Francisco a 9 p.m.–11 p.m. PT window. Both use registration or a Warp Pipe Pass system, and New York registration was reported full. Some GameStop locations run midnight events for preorder customers only, so check the individual store rather than assuming every branch participates.
How do you preorder the digital version?
You need a Nintendo Account, a Switch 2 linked to that account, enough storage for an estimated 27 GB download, and a payment method accepted by your account’s eShop region.

The textured foil cover is the worldwide first-print bonus, not a separate collector’s edition. In the United States there is no retailer-exclusive bonus beyond that cover and the digital wallpaper. Other regions have different offers: France has black-and-gold N64 cover art; Canada has red-and-gold N64 cover art; Nintendo Stores in the UK, Europe and Israel have offered Spiritual Stone replicas; and selected countries have listed extras such as coasters, posters, keychains, a ceramic ocarina, art cards or a tote. Is the full game on the physical cartridge?
Yes. IGN reported that the first-print physical release contains the full game on the cartridge and is not a Game-Key Card. You still need a Switch 2 system and any required updates, but the box is not merely a download key.
Does the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 include the game?
No. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 costs $519.99 and launched October 29, 2026, but the console bundle does not include the remake. The matching Pro Controller is $99.99, or $109.99 with a stand at Nintendo stores; the carrying case and screen protector are $39.99. These are separate hardware purchases, not substitutes for a game preorder.

What should you check if a preorder goes wrong?
- Pre-load did not start: verify that the console is linked to the purchasing account, has roughly 27 GB available, is online and has automatic software downloads enabled. The charge and pre-load occur in Nintendo’s seven-day window, not immediately for every preorder.
- The digital unlock is not visible: check the Nintendo Account’s eShop region and the console’s date and time settings. The expected 9:00 p.m. PT schedule is regional and Nintendo has not published a title-specific minute.
- Walmart shows no stock: refresh the listing or choose another retailer. The promotion was live in some reports and unavailable in others during the final week.
- A package is late: use the carrier estimate and contact the retailer; a November 5 arrival estimate is not a midnight guarantee. Digital is the only format designed to avoid carrier delay.
- A midnight event is full: do not travel without a confirmed reservation or store notice. Nintendo New York registration was already reported full, and Best Buy events are limited to selected stores.
