Yes—but the official method is streaming, not installing PS4 software on Windows. Sony’s PS Remote Play app lets a Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 PC display and control a game running on your PS4. You keep the console, PlayStation account and game access; the PC receives the video stream and sends controller input back.
You need Remote Play enabled on the PS4, the same PlayStation account on the console and PC, a compatible controller, and a stable broadband connection. Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 15 Mbps for a better experience. This guide covers setup, disc and digital-game limitations, troubleshooting, and the separate PlayStation Plus Premium streaming option.
What is the official way to play PS4 games on a Windows PC?
Use PS Remote Play. The PS4 does the actual game processing, while the Windows app streams the console session to your computer and returns your controller commands to the console. Sony describes the feature as streaming PS4 and PS5 games to compatible devices, including Windows PCs.

That distinction matters: Remote Play does not copy a PS4 game to your hard drive, turn it into a Windows executable, or remove the need for the PS4. Your ownership and access remain tied to the PlayStation console and account that can launch the game.

What do I need before setting up PS Remote Play?
Gather these items before opening the PC app. Sony’s requirements and network figures below were checked in October 2026; the 5 Mbps and 15 Mbps figures are guidance, not a promise of a particular resolution, frame rate or input delay.
| Requirement | What Sony specifies | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| PS4 console | A PS4 linked to your PlayStation account | The console remains the host that runs the game. |
| PlayStation account | The same account must be used on the PS4 and in the Windows app | Remote Play searches for consoles associated with the signed-in account. |
| Windows version | Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 | These are Sony’s currently listed PC operating systems. |
| Processor | 7th-generation Intel Core or later | Listed minimum CPU class for the Windows client. |
| Memory and storage | At least 2 GB RAM and 100 MB available storage | Space for the application and its operation. |
| Display and audio | At least 1,024 × 768 display resolution and a sound card | The app needs a compatible display and audio device. |
| Controller | DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense or DualSense Edge; Sony’s Windows requirements specify USB connection hardware | A supported gamepad provides the input sent back to the PS4. |
| Broadband | 5 Mbps minimum; 15 Mbps recommended for a better experience | Streaming quality depends on the complete network path, not speed alone. |
| USB | A USB port on the PC | Used for the controller connection specified in Sony’s Windows requirements. |
A USB data cable is the straightforward way to connect a supported controller. If your PC has only USB-C ports, use a compatible data cable or adapter rather than a charge-only lead.
How do I enable Remote Play on the PS4?
Enable the console settings first, then install and sign in to the official Windows client.
- Open the Remote Play setting. On the PS4, go to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- Activate the console as primary. Sony’s setup guidance also instructs you to activate that PS4 as the primary console for the PlayStation account. This links the console discovery process to the account you will use on the PC.
- Prepare rest mode wake-up (optional). If you want to start a session without pressing the console’s power button, open the PS4 rest-mode power settings and enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS4 from Network.
- Install the official app. Download and launch PS Remote Play for Windows from Sony’s PlayStation site. Sign in with the same PlayStation Network account used on the PS4.
- Connect the controller. Attach a supported DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense or DualSense Edge to the PC with USB, as specified in Sony’s current Windows requirements.
- Select PS4. In the app, choose PS4. The client searches for a PS4 associated with your signed-in account. Keep the console powered on or configured for network wake-up while it searches.
If automatic discovery does not find the console, use Sony’s manual-registration procedure in the PlayStation 4 Remote Play support flow. Check the account first: signing into a different PlayStation account on the PC is a common reason the expected PS4 does not appear.
How does Remote Play handle a game session?
The PS4 launches and runs the title. It renders the game, reads the game license or disc access available on that console, and sends the resulting video and audio to Windows. Your controller commands travel in the opposite direction. Windows is therefore a remote screen and input device, not a second PS4 running the software locally.
Closing the PC app ends the remote viewing session, but it does not create a Windows installation. Game updates, save data and console storage remain matters for the PS4 and the PlayStation account.

Can I play PS4 games I own on disc?
Remote Play is designed to access games available on your own PS4; it is not a disc-ripping or conversion feature. For a disc-based title, the console must be able to access that game when you start it. The disc is not copied to Windows, and Remote Play does not create a standalone PC license.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Digital purchases follow the same principle: the game must be accessible to the PlayStation account on the host PS4. Do not assume that every disc or digital title will work remotely. Sony identifies games that require PlayStation VR, PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Camera or other additional peripherals as incompatible with Remote Play, and individual titles can have their own requirements.
What internet speed and network setup work best?
Sony lists at least 5 Mbps broadband as the minimum and at least 15 Mbps for a better Remote Play experience on its current Remote Play page. Those numbers are operational guidance from Sony Interactive Entertainment, checked in 2026; they do not guarantee a fixed image quality or response time.
Remote Play performance can vary because of latency, congestion, packet loss, Wi-Fi interference and the route between the PS4 and PC. A stable connection is more useful than a high advertised peak speed that fluctuates. If the picture becomes blocky or controls feel delayed, reduce competing traffic, move the PC closer to the wireless access point, or use a wired connection where practical. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance also notes that network conditions affect quality and connectivity.
- Keep the PS4 and PC on a reliable network path during play.
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups and video streams that compete for bandwidth.
- Use the rest-mode network options only if the console remains connected to the internet.
- Do not treat 15 Mbps as a promise of a particular resolution, frame rate or latency.
Which PS4 games work with Remote Play?
Compatibility is not universal. Sony says some games cannot be used because they require PlayStation VR, PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Camera or other peripherals beyond the supported controllers. A game that depends on a special camera, headset or accessory may therefore fail even when the PS4 and network are configured correctly.

What is the difference between Remote Play and PlayStation Plus Premium on PC?
They solve different problems. Remote Play uses your PS4 as the host, while PlayStation Plus Premium on PC streams selected games from Sony’s cloud service. Premium streaming can be useful when you want to play supported catalog titles without using your own PS4 as the host, but it is not a blanket way to stream every PS4 game you own.
| Consideration | PS Remote Play | PlayStation Plus Premium on PC |
|---|---|---|
| What runs the game? | Your PS4 console | Sony’s cloud-streaming service for supported catalog titles |
| Relationship to games you own | Uses games accessible on your PS4 | Uses eligible Games Catalog and selected Classics Catalog titles included in the subscription |
| Extra requirements | PS4, matching account, Remote Play enabled, supported controller and suitable network | Active Premium subscription, PlayStation Network account with registered payment details, compatible PC and controller, broadband internet and age 18 or older |
| Main dependency | Your console, account and network path | Subscription, supported region, catalog availability and internet connection |
| Best fit | Playing games already accessible on your own PS4 | Playing supported catalog games without using your PS4 as the host |
Sony’s PlayStation Plus PC guidance says some PS4 Games Catalog titles may not be available to stream. Catalogs, plans and regional availability can change, so check the current listing for your country before subscribing. Premium is a separate service from Remote Play and is not required for the console-streaming method.
Can a Windows PC run PS4 games natively?
Sony’s official documentation reviewed for this guide does not describe a supported way to install and execute arbitrary PS4 games natively on Windows. The documented route is console streaming through Remote Play. A Windows PC would be running the game locally only if it had a compatible native Windows release; owning the PS4 version does not itself create that release.

Remote Play keeps the game session on the console you own and avoids transferring game files to the PC.
How do I troubleshoot a PS4 that does not appear in Remote Play?
Work through the checks in this order so you can identify whether the issue is account discovery, console configuration, controller setup or network quality.
The app cannot find the PS4
- Confirm that Remote Play is enabled under Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings.
- Verify that the Windows app and the PS4 use the same PlayStation account.
- Confirm that the console is activated as that account’s primary PS4, as Sony’s setup instructions require.
- Make sure the PS4 is powered on, or that rest-mode network wake options are enabled and the console remains connected.
- Use Sony’s manual-registration flow if automatic discovery still fails.
The controller is not accepted
Use one of Sony’s listed controller families—DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense or DualSense Edge—and connect it through USB on Windows. A cable that supplies power but not data can prevent the app from seeing the controller; try a known data-capable cable and another USB port.

The stream is blurry or delayed
- Compare your connection with Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum and 15 Mbps recommendation.
- Stop other high-bandwidth activity on the network.
- Prefer a stable wired segment or a strong, uncongested Wi-Fi connection.
- Restart the Remote Play app and the network equipment if the connection has become unstable.
- Remember that Sony does not guarantee a fixed resolution, frame rate or response time from those bandwidth figures.
The game will not start remotely
Check whether the title requires PlayStation VR, PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Camera or another peripheral Sony lists as incompatible. Also confirm that the game is accessible on the PS4 and that the account signed into the app is the account associated with the console.

Keep a supported controller and a USB data cable with the PC so a session does not depend on an untested wireless pairing. Configure rest mode before you leave the PS4 unattended, and verify that the console is still connected to the network after entering rest mode. For the most consistent play, reserve bandwidth for Remote Play and avoid treating the minimum speed as a quality target.
If a title uses a peripheral that Remote Play does not support, no Windows setting will make that accessory appear as a compatible replacement. Use a controller-based title or play that specific game directly on the PS4 instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wake a PS4 that is completely powered off?
The network-wake options apply to rest mode. If the PS4 is fully shut down, Remote Play cannot turn it on through those settings; you must power it on locally before the app can connect.
Does the 15 Mbps recommendation guarantee smooth play?
No. Sony presents 15 Mbps as a recommendation for a better experience, not as a latency or image-quality guarantee. Wireless interference, congestion and the distance between the console, network and PC can still affect the session.

Why can a game I own be unavailable through Remote Play?
Ownership does not override technical compatibility. Sony excludes games that require certain VR systems, cameras or other unsupported peripherals, and the game must also be accessible on the configured PS4 account and console.
