Fallen City Brawl uses one shared control grammar for all four fighters. On the documented PlayStation 5 layout, Cross attacks, Circle jumps, Square counters or picks up objects, Triangle fires the character’s ammunition weapon, and R1 spends the RIOT gem meter. Movement uses the left stick or D-pad. Every fighter shares the same four-hit strings, throws, ground pound, two health-cost specials and RIOT system; character identity comes from speed, reach, jump attack and the unique weapon.
This guide uses the full PS5 map published by PS4Blog on 28 October 2026, marks the Xbox correspondence as inferred rather than official, and explains what is and is not documented for keyboard and Switch controls. PC keyboard support is confirmed and remappable, but default key bindings have not been published. A controller is the safest choice for directional throws, counters and rapid combo inputs.
What are the core Fallen City Brawl controls?
The game reduces combat to five action inputs shared by every character: attack, jump, counter/pickup, unique special weapon and RIOT super. Eight-way movement is separate. The following is the complete PlayStation 5 retail mapping reported by EdEN for PS4Blog; it is the only full face-button table published for the game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Action | PlayStation 5 control |
|---|---|
| Move | Left analog stick or D-pad |
| Jump | Circle |
| Attack | Cross (X) |
| Jump attack | Jump, then Cross; the attack changes by character |
| Basic combo | Cross four times |
| Launch combo | Cross three times, then Down + Cross |
| Push or wall-bounce combo | Cross three times, then Up + Cross |
| Throw | While close, press Back + Cross relative to the fighter’s facing direction |
| Pummel | After a grab, press Cross without a direction |
| Counterattack | Square, timed to the incoming hit |
| Ground pound | Down + Cross against a downed enemy |
| Pick up an object | Square |
| Throw a held object | Cross |
| Special move 1 | Double-tap Forward, then Cross |
| Special move 2 | Cross + Square together |
| Unique special weapon | Triangle; consumes ammunition |
| RIOT super | R1 |
Jump attacks are character-specific. A 2025 first-impressions video also reports that pressing Down before the attack can change the aerial strike, but no official move list names each variation. The command is therefore universal while the animation and tactical purpose differ by fighter.

How do I perform combos, throws, counters and the dash attack?
Start with the shared four-hit string, then choose an ender based on where you want the enemy to go. The developer described the design this way: “There’s um at the end of each kind of combo string, you can use up or down to basically kind of either kind of uppercut um and kind of launch the player in the air or to push the player forward.”
Basic, launch and push strings
- Knockdown: Cross, Cross, Cross, Cross.
- Launch: Cross, Cross, Cross, Down + Cross. This sends the target upward for a juggle.
- Push or wall bounce: Cross, Cross, Cross, Up + Cross. The bounce can extend the combo if you stay close.
The combo counter lasts only briefly, but it can be extended between waves and with wall bounces. MyGamer reports that the counter pauses during a wave transition and then drains when the next section begins, which makes long-hit achievements especially demanding.
Grabs, pummels and air throws
At close range, press Back + Cross to throw. Once the enemy is held, Cross with no direction performs a pummel before the throw. The game advertises air throws, but no published source gives a separate air-throw button: jump into an airborne opponent and use the normal attack or throw interaction when the game presents the opportunity.
Ground pound without walking away
Use Down + Cross on a fallen enemy. Holding Down can make the character walk away from the body, so MyGamer recommends short, deliberate taps; otherwise only the first couple of hits connect.
Counter and parry timing
Square is the counter button on PS5 and also handles pickups. The counter is intentionally tight. The developer explained, “The counter is quite kind of tricky to land but it’s intentionally so,” and described the timing as letting the enemy begin the punch, then pressing toward the attacker and the attack input. The published control table simplifies that into a timed Square press; no distinct second parry button has been documented, even though store copy also uses the word parry.
Dash attack timing
Retail reviews describe a dash option, while an Apocanow summary of a Steam discussion says the dash attack must be started at the instant the dash begins. Pressing attack late produces an ordinary dash with no hit. This is the technique Italian players often search for as Come si fa lo scatto d’attacco?

How do special moves and desperation attacks work?
Both special commands are shared by the roster, but their animations and hit patterns differ. They are not free attacks: reviews report that each desperation move consumes health.

Double-tap Forward in the direction the fighter faces, then press Cross. This version is useful for extending a combo or reaching an enemy, but it drains health. Demo-era notes mention that specials could cancel normal attacks; treat that as a 2025 demo behavior unless your current build confirms it.
Special move 2: attack + counter
Press Cross and Square together. On the PS5 map this is the launching special and also costs health. The publisher has not released individual names for either special, so descriptions such as desperation move or local attack refer to their function, not official character-specific titles.
Watch the blue special gauge
A blue gauge sits beneath health. Normal attacks refill it, and PS4Blog reports that specials become weaker and the combo is reduced when the gauge falls below 30. Do not confuse this bar with RIOT gems: the blue gauge controls special strength, while gems pay for the screen-clearing super.
How do I use RIOT, gems, coins and backup effects?
RIOT is a separate gem system. Crystal drops appear for every 10 hits in a combo, and R1 spends the stored gems. The published thresholds are:

| 20 or more | Summon level | Consumes 20 gems; shadow enemies appear and can drop dark gems when defeated |
When the RIOT gauge is full, enemy drops switch from gems to coins. One hundred coins grant a 1UP. Different reviews use different names for the escalating effects: RIOT, CHAOS, mercenary backup, shadow enemies and a shadow ninja. They describe the same escalating gem-spend structure, but no publisher glossary unifies those labels. Steam’s feature list also describes upgradeable mercenary backup that can clear the screen, while reviews describe the high-level summon as an enemy or support effect.

Which character should I choose?
There is no single best fighter. Choose by the trade-off you want: Clay is the balanced entry point, Ricco controls space, Natasha trades reach for speed, and Iron Jackson converts grabs and heavy weapons into damage. Every character retains the same combo, throw, counter, special and RIOT commands.
| Character | Combat identity | Unique weapon | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sergeant Clay | All-rounder with dependable close damage | Shotgun, described as pump or double-barrel depending on source | Learning the universal system and close-range combo extensions |
| Ricco | Kick-boxer with the roster’s best reach; slower but stronger than Natasha | Handgun, 9mm or semi-automatic pistol | Controlling distance and landing rapid jabs |
| Natasha | Fast, combo-heavy and low-reach; takes more damage in Vulgar Knight’s account | Large returning wrench or oversized spanner | Players who value speed and are comfortable staying close |
| Iron Jackson | Heavy grappler built around an iron chain | Molotov cocktails or incendiary bombs | Large damage, crowd pressure and grab-focused play |
Sergeant Clay: shotgun pressure
Clay is the former SWAT sergeant framed while trying to clean up the FCPD. His shotgun is powerful at close range, chains into combos and uses ammunition dropped by enemies. Triangle fires it. A 2025 demo note said the shotgun was dropped when Clay was knocked down and picked up with the gamepad B button; that pickup detail is demo-era. In the retail mapping, pickups use Square on PS5.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Ricco: reach and pistol jabs
Ricco is the Special Forces survivor seeking justice after his unit was destroyed by Ignition Gear. Sources variously call the weapon a handgun, 9mm pistol or semi-automatic pistol. His rapid jabs and superior reach suit players who want to keep enemies at the edge of the shared combo range. The developer stream sometimes spells his name Rico; Ricco is the spelling used by most character descriptions.
Natasha: speed and the returning wrench
Natasha is a mechanic searching for her sister. Reviews describe her as quick and weak with short reach, while the large wrench compensates by striking farther and returning to her. Her fast strings reward repeated repositioning, but the low durability of her melee exchanges makes missed counters costly.
Iron Jackson: chain, grabs and Molotovs
Jackson is a former Ignition Gear lieutenant betrayed by the group. His oversized iron chain gives him heavy grappler range, and his limited-ammunition Molotovs create fire-based pressure. Vulgar Knight’s 28 October 2026 review describes Molotovs as nearly on demand and says the reviewer played Jackson almost exclusively. Two additional commands in a 2025 demo changelog—a running shoulder charge and a grab-jump-attack sequence—were not restated by 2026 reviews, so do not assume those exact inputs in the retail build.

What are the Xbox and PC controller mappings?
No publisher Xbox table was found. The following correspondence is inferred from face-button identity: PlayStation Cross maps to Xbox A, Circle to B, Square to X and Triangle to Y, with R1 corresponding to RB.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Action | Inferred Xbox-style pad |
|---|---|
| Attack | A |
| Jump | B |
| Counter or pickup | X |
| Unique weapon | Y |
| RIOT | RB |
| Special move 1 | Forward, Forward + A |
| Special move 2 | A + X |
Apocanow and MyGamer both report that the default Xbox jump on B feels wrong to many players. MyGamer’s recommendation is to remap so A jumps and X attacks, matching the layout familiar to many Xbox platform-game players. Treat the table above as a starting point, then confirm the button prompts in your build.
Is a keyboard or controller better on PC?
A controller is the recommended PC option because the game combines directional throws, a timing-sensitive counter and rapid combo enders. W.Kohaku Media says all controllers are supported through Steam Input and calls a controller the best experience. Keyboard support is present and fully customizable, but the default keyboard keys are not published; do not rely on an assumed WASD or J/K/L layout.
- Controller: best for analog or D-pad direction changes, throws and counter timing; Steam Input handles compatible pads.
- Keyboard: supported and remappable, useful if you prefer discrete directions, but you must inspect the in-game mapping screen.
- Steam Deck: Valve lists the game as Verified. All functionality is accessible with the default controller configuration, the interface shows Steam Deck icons, text is legible and the default graphics configuration is reported to perform well.
How do I remap Fallen City Brawl controls?
Remapping is done inside the game rather than through an undocumented keyboard file. The exact menu wording can vary by platform, but the process is:
- Open the main menu and choose Options.
- Open the button or controller configuration screen shown before the tutorial.
- Select the action you want to change, such as Jump, Attack, Counter, Unique Weapon or RIOT.
- Press the replacement button on the controller or keyboard.
- Save or confirm the layout, then enter the tutorial and verify a four-hit combo, a pickup and a special.
For an Xbox-style pad, the practical first change is moving Jump from B to A and Attack from A to X. On keyboard, map movement, attack and counter so that a direction plus attack can be reached without releasing movement; the game does not publish a required default arrangement.
What should I know about co-op and platform differences?
The game is a side-scrolling beat ’em up set in 1989 Fallen City, with seven stages and four playable characters. Windows versions launched on Steam and GOG on 12 August 2025; digital console versions for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series, Nintendo Switch and Xbox on PC were announced for 28 October 2026. Console prompts may differ after updates, so use the local tutorial as the authority for the face-button labels.

Steam lists local shared or split-screen co-op and Remote Play Together. Practical two-player local play is described by publisher-facing reviews; a separate wiki lists up to four offline players, but that four-player figure is not confirmed by the Steam store description. No online matchmaking feature has been announced. Each local player should have a controller for reliable simultaneous inputs.
The last Steam news patch listed by pcgame.com is Patch 9 from 23 June 2026. Console builds can therefore show different prompts or fixes from the original PC release.
What are the most common input mistakes?
- Jump feels misplaced on Xbox: remap B-jump to A and attack to X if that is your established layout.
- Ground pound misses: tap Down + attack instead of holding Down, which walks away from the fallen target.
- Dash attack becomes a normal dash: press attack as the dash starts, not after the movement has begun.
- Specials seem weak: check the blue gauge; below 30, PS4Blog reports reduced special strength and a shorter combo.
- Health disappears during a special: both shared desperation commands cost health by design.
- Aerial hits stop registering: Apocanow’s community guidance is to finish the sequence on the ground when a launched enemy no longer reacts in the air.
- Counter fails repeatedly: Square must be timed to the incoming strike; the developer explicitly describes the window as intentionally difficult.
- Grab appears frozen: MyGamer reports a grab-freeze bug on Xbox that cleared after the character took damage; this is a platform-specific report, not a universal control rule.
- Long combos collapse between groups: the counter can pause between waves and then drain as the next section begins.
What does the game not document?
There is no official frame-data table, invincibility schedule, damage chart or timing-window list. Default keyboard keys, a complete Switch button table, a separate parry bind, a wolf command button and official names for each character’s two specials have not been published. Those omissions matter: use the in-game tutorial and options screen instead of importing a control scheme from another platform or a demo.
Recommended Free Tools
The universal map is nevertheless enough to play every fighter: learn Cross or A for the four-hit string, the Up and Down enders, Back + attack for throws, the counter button for defense and pickups, the two shared special commands, the ammunition button and RIOT. Then choose Clay, Ricco, Natasha or Jackson according to weapon reach, speed and power rather than looking for a different control system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Nintendo Switch button labels officially documented?
No complete Switch face-button table has been published in the available documentation. The Switch release uses the same combat actions, but the safest way to identify each label is to open the in-game tutorial and options screen on that console.
Does Fallen City Brawl support cross-play between consoles and PC?
No cross-play feature has been announced. Steam Remote Play Together can share a local session, but that is different from cross-platform matchmaking.
Which languages are available in the Steam version?
Steam lists English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese text.
What PC hardware is required to run the game?
Steam lists 2 GB of RAM and 2 GB of storage as the minimum requirements. The game is built in GameMaker and is also marked Steam Deck Verified.
