To win a Deadlock match, your team must destroy the opposing Patron. The practical route is to collect Souls from Troopers, grow stronger, keep lanes moving with your wave, and take map objectives when your team can support the push. Deadlock is still in early development, so treat exact lane names, rewards, and mechanics as subject to change.

What you are trying to do

Deadlock’s main objective is to destroy the enemy Patron. Lane structures and map control are steps toward that final base push, not separate win conditions. Secondary contests such as the Soul Urn or Mid-Boss can give a team an advantage, but they do not replace the need to advance and finish at the Patron.

Valve’s Steam listing describes Deadlock as “a multiplayer game in early development” and says access is currently limited to friend invites through playtesters. Check the official Steam listing for current access information; it does not promise a future release date.

How lanes and Troopers work

In the setup described by the community strategy guide, the map has three lanes, with two players initially assigned to each lane. Assignments and lane names can change between updates, so use the live game’s map and team setup rather than relying on a fixed label.

Allied and enemy Troopers meet and fight in lanes. Your nearby wave is the first thing to read: staying close enough to collect its Souls helps you build power, while clearing the opposing wave helps move pressure forward. Do not chase a doubtful kill if doing so costs you a wave or leaves your lane partner exposed.

Collect Souls to build strength

Troopers release Soul orbs when they are killed. Souls are used both to level up and to buy items, so steady collection turns lane time into the strength you need for later fights and pushes. Focus on collecting the orbs, not simply landing the final hit on a Trooper.

Deny enemy Souls after you learn to collect your own

When an allied Trooper falls, its Soul orb can be shot to deny the opposing lane the chance to collect it. This is useful pressure, but treat it as a second priority: first learn to secure your own available Souls consistently, then look for safe opportunities to deny.

Clearing enemy Troopers also helps push your lane and build map pressure. Denial and wave-clear work together, but neither is worth losing track of nearby opponents or abandoning a teammate without support.

When to attack lane objectives

Lane objectives are the route toward the enemy base. The strategy guide associates them with Souls, map control, and extra slots, but the exact rewards and structure rules can change. Let your Trooper wave advance with you rather than attacking a deeper structure alone; the wave helps create pressure, while an unsupported attack can expose you to the defenders. Check the live game for current backdoor-protection behavior.

  • Follow-up pressure: Will taking the objective make a later push safer, or open an opportunity for the other team elsewhere?

Rotate as the match develops

A useful flexible model is early laning, midgame movement to assist teammates while farming and contesting objectives, and late-game team fights followed by pressure toward the Patron. These are phases to help you read the match, not fixed timer marks: the right moment to leave a lane depends on its wave, the fights nearby, and what your team can safely accomplish.

When an early advantage develops, use rotations to help teammates and convert strength into map control. Avoid treating every secondary objective as mandatory; compare its reward and risk with the value of maintaining a lane or supporting a more useful push.

Secondary objectives: useful, not the finish line

The Soul Urn and Mid-Boss are optional map objectives that can help a team hold an advantage or turn a match around. Their exact timing and rewards are patch-sensitive, so learn their current effects from the game itself rather than memorizing an older guide. The strategic question is whether your team can contest one without giving up more important lane pressure or leaving teammates vulnerable.

The community strategy page used for this broad match-flow guidance was last modified August 29, 2025. It is useful for the high-level distinction between lane advancement and secondary objectives, but names, assignments, mechanics, rewards, and timing should be verified against the current build.
