Choose by the kind of game you want, not just by the Dragon Ball name: DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT is the story-led action RPG, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is the large-roster 3D arena fighter, DRAGON BALL FighterZ is the 3-on-3 tag fighter, and DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2 lets you create a fighter and join online missions. For team-based online play, consider free-to-start DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA; for an asymmetric survivor-versus-Raider match, consider DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS. These games are not interchangeable, and the edition, platform and DLC listing can change what you actually get.

Which Dragon Ball game should you buy?
For a straightforward choice, start with the activity you want to repeat: follow a story, fight in an arena, master tag-team combat, customize an avatar, coordinate a team, or try to survive a powerful opponent. A franchise connection does not mean the games share the same genre, pace or multiplayer setup.
- Choose KAKAROT if you mainly want to revisit the Dragon Ball Z story with action-RPG exploration and activities such as fishing and training.
- Choose Sparking! ZERO if you want large-scale 3D arena battles, story and custom-battle modes, and a substantial roster. The publisher said its base game has more than 180 fighters; separately sold content adds to, rather than defines, that base-game count.
- Choose FighterZ if the appeal is a dedicated 3-on-3 tag fighting game rather than an open arena or story-focused RPG.
- Choose XENOVERSE 2 if creating your own fighter and taking that character into online fights, raids and missions matters more than controlling only established characters.
- Consider GEKISHIN SQUADRA for free-to-start online 4-versus-4 team play. It is a live online game, not a substitute for an offline story campaign.
- Consider THE BREAKERS if you want its specific survivor-versus-Raider structure. Its core appeal is asymmetric online play, not a conventional solo action game.
These are recommendations by play style, not a review ranking or a claim that one game is objectively best. The first four are paid-game choices; the last two have different online and monetization models.

What kind of play does each game actually offer?
The most important distinction is the central activity. Check that before comparing editions or shopping for a deal.

KAKAROT: a story-led action RPG
KAKAROT follows the Dragon Ball Z story and mixes action with exploration and side activities. Fishing, eating and training help make it a broader role-playing experience than a sequence of versus matches. It is the clearest fit here if revisiting the story is the priority; it is not the choice for someone whose main goal is a competitive tag fighter or team-based online match.
Sparking! ZERO: 3D arena battles
Sparking! ZERO is a Budokai Tenkaichi-style arena fighter. Its modes include story and custom battles, as well as local and online PvP. The publisher’s count of more than 180 fighters applies to the base game; do not assume it includes characters sold in later DLC. The Steam listing gives platform-specific details for PC, including its modes and system requirements.
FighterZ: 3-on-3 tag combat
FighterZ is built around team-based tag fighting. That makes it a different proposition from the large 3D arenas in Sparking! ZERO: choose it for the structure of a 3-on-3 fighting game, not simply because it has familiar characters. Its publisher product information also identifies a PS5 version; that version’s listing specifically calls out rollback netcode for online versus, so do not assume the same platform-specific statement describes every version.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →XENOVERSE 2: your own fighter and online missions
XENOVERSE 2 centers on a created avatar, with online fights and raids among its activities. It suits players who want a character-building and mission loop alongside multiplayer. Its extensive add-on history makes edition and DLC checks particularly important: a listing for the base game does not establish that every pass or expansion is included.
GEKISHIN SQUADRA and THE BREAKERS: online-first alternatives
GEKISHIN SQUADRA is a free-to-start online team game with 4-versus-4 matches. Its official site describes cross-platform play and progression, but that does not make every purchase portable: Dragon Gems bought with real money remain usable only on the platform where they were purchased. The site also lists no offline local multiplayer, so do not buy it expecting couch co-op.
THE BREAKERS is an asymmetric online game in which survivors face a Raider. Its premise is a better guide to its appeal than the broader label “Dragon Ball game”: check whether you want that online match format before buying. The availability of online play in a product listing does not, by itself, establish cross-play between platforms.

What do the base game and DLC editions include?
Read the included-content list for the exact edition and platform SKU you intend to buy. A title, character count or “complete” sounding label is not enough to establish which DLC is included.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSparking! ZERO editions and NEO
The base game includes more than 180 fighters, according to Bandai Namco Entertainment America. Super Limit-Breaking NEO is a separate expansion that adds 33 playable characters; it is not part of the base-game count. Steam distinguishes Standard, NEO and Legendary editions and warns buyers to avoid duplicate purchases, so compare the edition contents with any DLC already in your account before checking out.
Bandai Namco announced that Super Limit-Breaking NEO launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam on July 30, 2026. An October 9, 2026 roadmap still placed the Switch and Switch 2 versions at a later, unspecified date. The publisher’s launch announcement covers the platforms on which it had launched; check the live store listing for the platform you own rather than assuming the expansion is available everywhere.
KAKAROT packs
Do not treat every KAKAROT add-on as a self-contained game. The physical Switch A NEW POWER AWAKENS SET includes Parts 1 and 2 of that particular set. The separately described DAIMA pack requires the KAKAROT base game to play. If you already own the base game, verify whether a bundle duplicates an add-on you bought before; if you do not, make sure a pack listing actually includes the base game.
FighterZ and XENOVERSE 2 add-ons
FighterZ has character passes, and its 2026 DAIMA Pack is a separate add-on to check against the edition you are considering. XENOVERSE 2 likewise has accumulated DLC over time. For both, distinguish a base-game SKU from a bundle and read the named contents: a pass or pack should not be presumed to include the game needed to run it, or every other add-on released for the title.

Match the product to the exact device, generation and format you own. Publisher catalogs show physical products for platforms including PS5, Switch and Switch 2, but a physical release on one system does not prove that the same edition exists for another.

- Confirm the platform name. Check whether the listing says PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Switch or Switch 2. Some games also have older-generation versions, but availability and features can vary by SKU.
- Confirm physical versus digital. A boxed product may be a disc, cartridge or a code in a box. Read the seller’s format description; do not infer it from a product image or the word “edition.”
- Check base-game inclusion. Make sure the listing includes the game itself if you do not already own it. Add-ons may require a separately purchased base game.
- Compare the included DLC by name. Confirm the specific pack, pass or expansion and whether it is usable on your platform. Similar edition names can have different contents.
- Check compatibility and seller details. For a boxed game, verify console compatibility and region information on the actual listing. Check current stock and terms with the seller; publisher catalog prices and availability are snapshots, not a guarantee of what a retailer has now.
For example, the publisher identifies physical products such as Sparking! ZERO PS5 Standard Edition, KAKAROT A New Power Awakens Set for Switch, FighterZ PS5 Standard Edition and XENOVERSE 2 PS5 Standard Edition. Those names do not establish that every seller has stock, that a particular copy is digital or physical, or that it contains unlisted DLC. Verify the individual listing before purchase.
Will Sparking! ZERO run on your PC?
Use Steam’s stated minimum and recommended requirements as a compatibility check, not as a promise of a particular result on your computer. The listed 1080p/60fps notes are estimates that allow for possible frame-rate drops; they are not independent performance measurements.
| Steam requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Not separately specified in the cited requirements |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GTX 980, RX 590 or Arc A750 class | RTX 2060 or RX Vega 64 class |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Not separately specified in the cited requirements |
| Available storage | 29 GB | 29 GB |
These are the Steam requirements for Sparking! ZERO; do not apply them to another Dragon Ball title. Check the Steam page for the other game you want and compare its own requirements against your PC’s operating system, processor, memory, graphics hardware and free storage. A machine that meets a minimum specification may still differ from the recommended target, and the requirement list alone does not establish real-world performance.
Can you play with friends on another platform?
Do not assume cross-play from the presence of online modes. Cross-play, local multiplayer, online matchmaking and cross-progression are separate features, and the available evidence differs by game.
- GEKISHIN SQUADRA: its official site states that cross-platform play and progression are supported. Account linking is needed for cross-progression; paid Dragon Gems remain restricted to the platform where purchased.
- Sparking! ZERO: Steam lists online PvP and shared/split-screen PvP. Those modes do not, on their own, prove that a PC player can match with a console player.
- THE BREAKERS: the game depends on asymmetric online play. Confirm the platform-specific online requirements and whether your intended friends can join before buying.
- FighterZ: the PS5 product listing specifically describes rollback netcode for online versus. That statement is about the PS5 version and does not answer the cross-play question for every platform.
- KAKAROT and XENOVERSE 2: do not infer cross-play or shared progression from their franchise or online features; check the exact platform listing and current game-specific information.
If local play is essential, confirm that the mode works on the exact platform and edition you plan to use. A Steam page’s split-screen detail is not evidence of local multiplayer on a console version, and a product listing’s online label does not tell you whether a platform subscription is required.
What should parents check before buying?
Look up the US ESRB rating, content descriptors and interactive elements for the exact game and platform listing. In particular, review descriptors for purchases and user interaction; a broad franchise label does not tell you the content or online features of a specific title.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Also distinguish an offline story experience from a game built around online matches. Online play can mean interaction with other players, while free-to-start games may offer optional in-app spending. Check the game’s current store page and console or PC account settings for purchase controls and online access requirements rather than assuming all six games handle those things alike.
How much will the game and its add-ons cost?
There is no single stable total to quote across these games: the amount depends on region, platform, edition, seller, promotions and the add-ons you choose. Compare the actual listing for your region and record whether the displayed amount is for the base game, an expansion, a pass or a bundle.
- Paid base game: establish that the SKU includes the game before comparing it with a DLC-only listing.
- Expansion or character pass: add it only if its contents fit what you want and you do not already own them. For Sparking! ZERO, NEO and Legendary editions can overlap with separately owned content.
- Free-to-start: GEKISHIN SQUADRA has no upfront game price, but optional in-game purchases are a separate spending decision. Real-money Dragon Gems are platform-restricted.
- Physical or digital bundle: compare the named contents, format and platform. A bundle is not automatically the cheapest complete option if it duplicates DLC.
Publisher catalog pricing and retailer stock change, and listings can differ by region. Check the current seller page on the day you buy; do not add prices from different regional stores or assume a promotion will recur.
Is XENOVERSE 3 available now?
No. Bandai Namco’s current page lists XENOVERSE 3 for late 2027 and provides wishlisting for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. An announced future release is not a currently purchasable finished game, so base a present purchase on what the currently listed games offer.
Bandai Namco’s October 25, 2026 announcement says XENOVERSE 2‘s Final Festival of Universes starts October 30, 2026, and describes rewards that can be unlocked in XENOVERSE 3 through account linking when the sequel becomes available. At the October 30 early-UTC cutoff, the announced event start date is that day; do not interpret the announcement as proof the event has already begun at every time zone or that sequel rewards replace buying a game.

How were these recommendations chosen?
The choices are organized by the activity each game is documented to provide: story and exploration, 3D arena PvP, 3-on-3 tag combat, avatar creation and missions, online 4-versus-4 team play, or asymmetric survival multiplayer. Platform-specific features, DLC dependencies and stated PC requirements are treated as separate buyer checks; no performance test or review-based ranking is implied.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the FighterZ PS5 version have rollback netcode?
Yes. Bandai Namco’s PS5 product listing specifically says that version includes rollback netcode for a smoother online-versus experience. Treat that as a PS5-specific feature statement, not a guarantee about other platforms.
Can I transfer purchased Dragon Gems in GEKISHIN SQUADRA to another platform?
No. The game’s official information says that Dragon Gems purchased with real money can be used only on the platform where they were bought. This is separate from its cross-platform play and progression support.

Is Sparking! ZERO’s 1080p/60fps PC target guaranteed?
