Display & Video 360 API v5 is a public beta, not a generally available replacement for v4. Google’s October 22, 2026 migration guide warns that breaking changes may be made during beta; its release notes still identify v4 as the latest API version, and Google’s deprecation schedule shows no v4 retirement date. If you need v5 now, migrate by auditing the resources and workflows your integration actually uses—not just by changing the request URL. Google’s v5 migration guide and deprecation schedule are the key references.
What should I know before migrating to DV360 API v5?
Treat v5 as a beta migration target for a specific need, not as a required upgrade with a deadline. The migration guide, last updated October 22, 2026, says v5 is open beta and warns: “Breaking changes may be made to v5 while in beta and will be listed in the Display & Video 360 API release notes.” Google’s release notes likewise announced the public beta on October 22, 2026, while labeling v4 the latest API version. The deprecation schedule defines release, deprecation, and sunset stages; it lists v4 as released March 27, 2025, and shows no deprecation or sunset date for it.
That status matters to rollout planning. If your integration has no requirement that depends on a v5 change or addition, the documentation does not establish a reason to rush from v4. If you do migrate, account for beta behavior: track the release notes, check for changes before deployments, and make the decision to enable v5 separately from deciding to adopt new features. The official release notes are the record Google says will list beta breaking changes.

V5 is therefore best evaluated on three axes: whether it contains a capability your business needs, how much existing code is affected, and how much beta volatility your release process can absorb. A client that only reads standard advertiser and campaign resources may need little more than versioned models and regression testing. A platform that manages inventory deals, audience membership, YouTube targeting, or insertion-order creation should expect a workflow-level migration.

How do I migrate from Display & Video 360 API v4 to v5?
Use a staged, usage-based migration: inventory the integration, update its API version and client configuration, apply only the breaking changes that match your code, then validate affected workflows before rollout. Google documents the version and resource changes; the validation and rollout sequence below is a cautious engineering approach, not a test plan prescribed by Google.
1. Inventory what the integration actually uses
Before changing code, record the current API version and client-library version, then map each API call to its resources, request fields, response fields, enum values, and dependent workflows. Include persisted data and operational tooling: v4 identifiers may live in databases or caches, not only in request builders. Pay particular attention to inventory sources, audience targeting, Customer Match membership, YouTube resources, and insertion-order processing, because those areas have documented v5 changes.
For each workflow, note whether it reads, creates, updates, or targets a resource. That distinction is important: some v5 changes remove write methods, some change how a resource is retrieved or targeted, and others affect only fields or enum values. Keep separate records for ad-group and line-item targeting rather than assuming that similar campaign types serialize the same way.

Mark whether an identifier is treated as globally reusable, whether an enum is stored as text, and whether unknown response fields are rejected. Those assumptions often matter more than the HTTP path when a generated client is upgraded.
- Search source code for
/v4/, version constants, discovery-document URLs, and hard-coded method names. - Search schemas, fixtures, queues, and databases for
InventorySourceidentifiers, audience-group values, Adloox names, and deprecated enum members. - List every Customer Match job separately from ordinary audience reads; those jobs require a different API dependency in v5.
- Record which advertisers use YouTube, Demand Gen, DOOH, or partner-cost features so unaffected accounts are not forced through unnecessary changes.
2. Switch the API path and client configuration
For direct REST calls, change the version segment in the request path from /v4/ to /v5/. Google’s example changes GET https://displayvideo.googleapis.com/v4/advertisers/{advertiserId} to the same request under /v5/. If you use a Google client library, update to its most recent version and configure it to use v5; changing a base URL alone does not update generated request or response models.
Google recommends its client libraries and provides version-specific discovery documents. Use the REST API reference to navigate the API and the v5 REST reference to inspect the beta resource and method definitions. Confirm that the library and discovery information used by your build correspond to the version you intend to call.
Keep the version selectable through configuration where practical. An explicit v4/v5 setting lets you compare behavior, run a limited canary, and revert without rebuilding every caller. It also prevents a shared library upgrade from silently moving unrelated services to a beta endpoint.
3. Audit the code paths affected by breaking changes
Work through the sections below against the inventory you made. Search application code, serializers, generated models, databases, caches, and any stored targeting payloads; a successful API-path update does not repair stale IDs, removed methods, renamed fields, or old enum constants. Do not change unrelated workflows merely to adopt optional v5 capabilities.
4. Validate and roll out deliberately
Google’s cited materials warn about beta breakage but do not prescribe test cases or a deployment sequence. As an engineering precaution, validate in a non-production environment where available, exercise every affected read and write path, and compare the resource shapes your application consumes. Then stage the rollout and monitor errors and the release notes. Keep a way to revert the version configuration if a beta change disrupts a workflow; the appropriate mechanism depends on how your integration selects its API version.

Validation should cover both successful and rejected requests. Replay representative reads, creates, updates, targeting assignments, pagination, and partial-response selections. Confirm that response deserializers tolerate the new containsSyntheticMedia field and that removed fields are not emitted. For workflows that persist IDs, verify that a v5-created identifier is stored and subsequently read by the same v5 path. Capture HTTP status, error details, advertiser, method, and client version so beta regressions can be separated from account or data issues.
What replaces inventory source targeting in v5?
V5 separates inventory source deals from auction packages. They no longer share the v4 retrieval and targeting model, and a cached v4 InventorySource ID cannot be reused for the corresponding v5 targeting flow.

| Auction packages | Represented as InventorySource; targeted with TARGETING_TYPE_INVENTORY_SOURCE. |
Retrieve through targetingTypes.targetingOptions; target with TARGETING_TYPE_AUCTION_PACKAGE and auctionPackageDetails. |
Update the whole path from discovery to targeting, rather than just renaming a targeting-type constant. The identifiers change, so search stored records and caches that may hold old IDs, and determine how your integration will obtain and persist the appropriate v5 identifiers. V5 also removes inventory-source creation, updates, and editing of accessors. If your application invokes those operations, the v5 version change is not a drop-in replacement for that workflow; check the method availability in the release notes and v5 reference before changing behavior.
Do not infer that a deal ID can be passed to an auction-package assignment, or that a single repository abstraction remains valid. The resource type, discovery method, targeting type, detail field, and identifier namespace all need explicit mapping. A migration that updates only request constants can appear to work for reads while failing when it creates or replaces an assignment.
How does audience targeting change for Demand Gen and YouTube?
For Demand Gen and YouTube ad groups, replace the v4 grouped audience option with an assigned targeting option selected by audience type. Do not apply that change to line items: they continue to use a single TARGETING_TYPE_AUDIENCE_GROUP assigned option for all audience types.
For ad groups, v5 pairs each audience targeting type with its corresponding detail field:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Review both sides of the integration. A writer or serializer that still emits the old grouped form may fail to express an ad group’s intended audience, while a reader that assumes every response has the same targeting shape may misinterpret the new assigned options. Keep separate handling for ad groups and line items in request construction, response parsing, and any shared targeting logic.
Make the audience-type mapping exhaustive in code rather than relying on a default branch. The v5 list includes combined, custom-list, first-party-and-partner, Google, and lookalike audiences; an unknown or newly introduced type should produce a visible validation error, not silently fall back to an unrelated detail object. Preserve the distinction in audit logs so operators can tell whether a failure occurred at an ad-group assignment or a line-item audience-group assignment.
How do I migrate Customer Match membership management?
Changing the API version does not preserve Customer Match membership operations. V5 removes firstPartyAndPartnerAudiences.create, firstPartyAndPartnerAudiences.editCustomerMatchMembers, and firstPartyAndPartnerAudiences.patch; Google directs integrations that still manage Customer Match membership to the Data Manager API.

Identify these calls before beginning the migration and treat them as a separate integration dependency. Trace which jobs create audiences or add, edit, or patch members, then plan how those workflows will use Data Manager API rather than assuming the same methods exist under a v5 path. Google’s migration guide identifies this direction; the v5 upgrade itself does not provide a replacement Customer Match membership method.

Separate audience discovery and activation from membership ingestion in your architecture. A service may continue reading audience resources through DV360 while sending member-management operations to Data Manager API. Update ownership, credentials, endpoint configuration, monitoring, and failure handling for that second dependency; otherwise a successful DV360 migration can still leave scheduled membership jobs broken.
What should I change for Digital Out of Home insertion orders?
V5 supports retrieving Digital Out of Home (DOOH) insertion orders and adds support for creating them. If your integration lists insertion orders with advertisers.insertionOrders.list, ensure it can handle results whose insertionOrderType is OUT_OF_HOME, rather than assuming every returned insertion order follows the types your v4 workflow previously handled.
Google says line items under DOOH insertion orders remain retrievable as they were in v4. That statement concerns retrieval; do not infer additional line-item capabilities from it. If you plan to create DOOH insertion orders, treat that as an optional capability to implement and validate only if the relevant advertiser workflow needs it.
Audit filters, enum switches, reporting joins, and user-interface labels that assume a fixed insertion-order type set. A parser that rejects an unfamiliar type can fail an otherwise successful list operation, while a creator that exposes DOOH without validating account applicability can offer a workflow the advertiser cannot use.
Which Adloox names become Peer39?
Update the three documented v5 naming changes wherever they occur in targeting models or partner-cost handling:
ThirdPartyVerifierAssignedTargetingOptionDetails.adlooxbecomespeer39.PARTNER_COST_TYPE_ADLOOXbecomesPARTNER_COST_TYPE_PEER39.PARTNER_COST_TYPE_ADLOOX_PREBIDbecomesPARTNER_COST_TYPE_PEER39_PREBID.
Google’s migration guide notes that Adloox is also referred to as Scope3. Check both serialized field names and enum references, including stored configuration that may be read by a newer client.
When migrating persisted configuration, decide whether to translate legacy text values at read time, in a one-time data migration, or at both boundaries. Keep compatibility logic narrow and documented; the v5 wire names should be used for new writes, while historical records should not be mistaken for unsupported v5 values.
Which YouTube fields changed in v5?
Inspect models and payload handling for renamed, removed, and newly added YouTube-related fields. Renamed and removed fields can break reads or writes, while an added field can expose assumptions that a resource schema is closed.

AudioAd,CommonInStreamAttribute, andVideoPerformanceAd,trackingUrlis split intotrackingUrlanduserSpecifiedTrackingUrl, distinguishing the tracking URL from the URL specified by the user.
Check how your integration handles missing and unknown fields, not just its compile-time models. Remove writes to the deleted expansion fields, update any references to the renamed related-video field, and confirm whether downstream consumers can tolerate AdGroupAd responses containing containsSyntheticMedia. For the split URL fields, map values according to their meanings rather than copying one old field into both new fields without an explicit rule.
Also inspect exports and analytics pipelines. A field rename can break column selection, JSON paths, validation rules, and comparison jobs even when API calls succeed. For synthetic-media reporting, decide whether the new Boolean-like value is merely displayed, persisted, or used in policy logic; do not discard it simply because older v4 models had no equivalent.
How should I handle removed enum values?
Do not carry deprecated enum values into v5. Google says deprecated values are fully removed there; requests using them already produce errors in v4, and lingering references can also cause errors when upgrading or compiling against v5 client libraries.
The migration guide names the affected enum types as ContentRatingTier, GoogleAudienceType, SdfVersion, and SensitiveCategory, but points to the release notes for the exhaustive list of removed values. Audit the actual constants your integration uses in application code and generated or client-library references. Avoid guessing which members are affected based only on the enum type name: use the release notes to check the exact values before removing or replacing them.
Check enum values in configuration files, migration scripts, test fixtures, and serialized messages as well as source constants. A compile-time cleanup can still leave a queued job or database row containing a removed value. Fail validation with a clear remediation message, and map only to a documented replacement; do not substitute a nearby-looking value whose targeting meaning differs.
Which v5 capabilities are optional rather than migration requirements?
Several v5 changes add capabilities rather than restore existing v4 behavior. They are not required parity work unless your integration has a use case for them, and their availability does not by itself make v5 a necessary upgrade for every v4 client.
- Full management of advertiser-level YouTube video and channel exclusion targeting, which was read-only in v4.
- Creating Digital Out of Home insertion orders.
- Generating ads from assigned creatives through
AdGroup.adSource,AdGroup.creativeAssignments, andAdGroupAd.parentCreativeId. - Creating and retrieving
LookalikeAudienceresources. - The new
AdGroupAd.containsSyntheticMediafield.
Confirm account and workflow applicability before expanding a migration to include these additions. Keep scope focused on required compatibility changes first; adding a new workflow also means taking on its own implementation and validation needs. Google lists these beta additions in the October 22, 2026 release notes and migration guide.
Separate “must change” tickets from “could adopt” tickets. Inventory-model changes, removed Customer Match methods, renamed fields, and removed enums belong in compatibility work when the integration uses them. YouTube exclusions, DOOH creation, ad generation, and lookalike-audience management should be planned as optional feature work with its own product approval and acceptance criteria.

- Changing only the URL: Generated clients, discovery documents, serializers, and enum definitions may still describe v4.
- Reusing inventory IDs: V5 changes the identifier model for deals and auction packages; cached v4 IDs cannot be reused.
- Applying ad-group rules to line items: Demand Gen and YouTube ad groups use individual audience options, while line items retain the grouped audience option.
- Expecting Customer Match methods to remain: The three named membership methods are removed, so those jobs need Data Manager API.
- Rejecting new response fields: Closed-schema consumers may fail when
containsSyntheticMediaappears. - Copying the old tracking URL blindly: V5 distinguishes the service tracking URL from the user-specified URL.
- Assuming v5 is stable: Public beta status means release-note monitoring remains part of operating the integration.
What is the safest way to scope the migration?
Use the integration’s actual dependency on v5 to decide whether to migrate now, then make the release decision against the beta lifecycle rather than an assumed v4 deadline. A practical decision framework is:

- Stay on v4 for now: if the integration has no v5-specific requirement and its current workflows are meeting their needs. Google’s published schedule does not show a v4 deprecation or sunset date as of October 22, 2026.
- Prepare a v5 branch or configuration: if a documented v5 change or capability is relevant, but you need time to update affected models and workflows. Keep version choice explicit so the team can validate and stage a change without silently changing all callers.
- Roll out v5 deliberately: after the relevant inventory, targeting, audience, Customer Match, insertion-order, field, and enum checks are complete for your integration. Monitor the official release notes while v5 remains in beta.
This framework is a planning recommendation, not a Google-mandated rollout policy. The important distinction is between changes required to keep an existing workflow compatible and new features that should be adopted only when there is a concrete need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does v5 have a v4 deprecation deadline?
Google’s deprecation schedule lists v4 as released March 27, 2025, with no deprecation or sunset date shown as of October 22, 2026. Check the schedule again before making a later lifecycle decision, because published status can change.
Where can I check the exact v5 method and field names?
Use the versioned v5 REST reference at developers.google.com/display-video/api/reference/rest/v5. The general REST reference links the broader API documentation and version-specific resources.
Can I migrate Customer Match by changing only the API host or version?
No. The Customer Match membership methods named in Google’s migration guide are removed in v5, and Google points membership-management integrations to Data Manager API. Plan that dependency as a separate workflow change rather than a URL substitution.
Is the v5 release notes page the place to watch beta changes?
Yes. Google’s beta warning says breaking changes will be listed in the Display & Video 360 API release notes. Review the notes when preparing a release that depends on v5.
What replaces the v4 InventorySource resource?
V5 separates the concepts. Retrieve deals through advertiser or partner inventory-source methods and target them with TARGETING_TYPE_INVENTORY_SOURCE_DEAL and inventorySourceDetails. Retrieve auction packages through targeting options and use TARGETING_TYPE_AUCTION_PACKAGE with auctionPackageDetails. Existing v4 IDs cannot be reused.
Do line-item audience assignments change in v5?
No change of the documented kind applies to line items: they continue to use one TARGETING_TYPE_AUDIENCE_GROUP assigned option for all audience types. The individual audience-type options apply to Demand Gen and YouTube ad groups.
What happens to inventory-source create and update calls?
V5 removes inventory-source creation, updates, and editing of accessors. Check the v5 reference and release notes for the exact method surface, then redesign any workflow that depends on those operations rather than retrying the old method under /v5/.
Is Digital Out of Home support required for every v5 client?
No. V5 can retrieve DOOH insertion orders and can create them, but this is optional capability work unless your advertisers use it. Any list-processing code should nevertheless tolerate an OUT_OF_HOME insertion-order type if it reads insertion orders broadly.
What should happen to Adloox configuration?
Use the v5 names peer39, PARTNER_COST_TYPE_PEER39, and PARTNER_COST_TYPE_PEER39_PREBID. Google’s guide also notes that Adloox is referred to as Scope3, so review stored text and display labels as well as generated enum constants.
The Bottom Line
DV360 API v5 is a public beta, so there is no documented v4 retirement deadline forcing an immediate move. If you need v5, treat migration as a resource and workflow audit: switch the path and client models, split inventory deals from auction packages, separate ad-group audience options from line-item handling, move Customer Match membership work to Data Manager API, update YouTube fields and enum values, and stage the rollout while monitoring Google’s release notes.
