To make your Discord account more private, narrow who can see your profile, turn off or limit activity sharing, restrict DMs and friend requests, and review Discord’s data-use controls. These are separate settings: hiding profile details does not stop messages or hide your activity everywhere, and none makes your account anonymous.
Limit who can see your Discord profile
In Discord, open User Settings > Data & Privacy > Profile Privacy. Choose the narrowest audience that suits you. Discord’s labels or menu locations may change as its apps are updated.

With Profile Privacy enabled, Discord says it hides custom status, pronouns, badges, connected accounts, bio, widgets, and wishlists from people outside the audience you chose. It does not hide everything: your avatar, banner, display name, username, server tag, account age, and mutual friends and servers remain visible. The 200-member threshold applies to the small-server audience option, not to a general measure of privacy. See Discord’s Profile Privacy documentation.
Hide or narrow your activity sharing
Profile Privacy does not determine whether other people can see what game you are playing or other activity. Review User Settings > Activity Sharing separately. You can turn activity sharing off globally, set its default audience, and review sharing for individual servers. Check connected-account settings too, since those have their own sharing controls.

Review the global setting and each relevant audience rather than treating a single server toggle as a universal switch. Discord describes these controls in its Activity Sharing FAQ.

Control DMs, message requests, and friend requests
Use User Settings > Content & Social to review whether server members can send you direct messages and which categories of people can send friend requests. These are contact permissions, separate from profile visibility. If you do not want requests through the listed categories, deselect all of them. To stop contact from a particular account, use Discord’s block feature. For details, see Blocking & Privacy Settings.
Understand Message Requests
Message Requests are enabled for everyone, but not every account can turn the feature off. Discord says teens and users whose adult age group is unconfirmed cannot disable it until adult status is confirmed. For adults, availability and behavior can depend on account and server settings. Review User Settings > Content & Social > Message Requests and the spam filter options available to your account. See Discord’s Message Requests guide.

Review how Discord uses your data
In User Settings > Data & Privacy, review the controls for data used to improve Discord and data used to personalize it. Discord’s support material also describes data controls under Privacy & Safety > How We Use Your Data; the exact navigation can vary by client version.

Turning off Use Data to Improve Discord stops new collection for the improvement purposes Discord describes. Discord says information collected while the setting was enabled may continue to be used. Data used to personalize Discord
Disabling personalization affects account-specific recommendations and promotions. It does not remove Discord’s access to conversations and other spaces. Review the scope in Data Used to Personalize Discord before changing the setting.
Request a copy of your Discord data
A data package is an inspection option, not a privacy toggle. You can request it through User Settings. Discord says the ZIP can include account information and settings, IP address, active sessions, relationships, messages, activity, and server information. Because it may contain private conversations and account details, store the download securely and do not share it casually. See Your Discord Data Package.

Check that a Discord notice is genuine
Be cautious with messages claiming to be from Discord support. Discord states, “Discord will never ask you for your password or account token.” Official messages carry an OFFICIAL badge and special explanatory text in the DM. Do not give credentials or an account token to someone who claims to need them for support. See Discord Official Messages.
