You can keep a recorded nursing course playing as a YouTube Live stream by feeding the video to YouTube through a hardware encoder or a cloud streaming service. First enable live streaming on an eligible, verified channel; then create a stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with its stream URL and key, and test the entire broadcast. Plan separately for YouTube’s under-12-hour archive limit—and do not present a public stream as awarding nursing continuing education credit unless the activity and provider meet the applicable requirements.
Choose how to keep the course playing
A prerecorded 24/7 broadcast needs an encoder or service that can continuously send video to YouTube Live. YouTube’s encoder guide lists both the AJA HELO Plus, whose PlayToStream function schedules prerecorded media, and Gyre, a cloud service for continuous prerecorded streaming. These are third-party examples listed by YouTube, not YouTube products. For a hardware route, confirm the encoder’s current capability and availability before buying; for a cloud route, verify the service’s present features and terms.
For a YouTube-only cloud option, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos or playlists continuously without leaving a computer or home connection on. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream, but it does not broadcast from a camera. One slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and support. The first day is free with no card, once per account. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. The same product is on every billing term; only the duration changes: Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. You can cancel any time; ask StreamNeo support about five or more slots.
Enable YouTube Live and create the stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-stream restriction within the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the planned launch. See YouTube’s live streaming setup guidance and encoder streaming guide.
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Set its title, description, visibility, and any audience settings appropriate to the course. YouTube’s encoder guide explains that the encoder sends the video to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and key from Live Control Room into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the key like a password: grant access only to the people and systems that need it, and do not publish it or include it in learner-facing materials.
- Load the course and start a test. Select the recording or playlist and start sending the stream. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the broadcast public. Verify that spoken audio is clear, slides are legible, captions are available if needed, and the learner-facing page opens as expected.
- Run an end-to-end recovery check. Before relying on continuous operation, test what happens after an encoder restart or connection interruption. Confirm that playback resumes as intended and that a person responsible for the course can recognize and respond to a failure.
Plan sessions and archives for a continuous feed
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for longer streams. A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a dependable way to create a complete course archive. Decide whether to use shorter sessions or maintain a separate recording workflow, and test the transition and resulting playback before launch. See YouTube’s encoder guide.

Keeping the broadcast continuous and keeping a usable recording are separate operational goals. Establish who will monitor session transitions, where a separate recording will be stored if required, and how learners will find the right course material if a session ends or an archive is unavailable.
Clear course rights and check YouTube rules
All live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Before broadcasting, confirm that the course operator has rights for every included slide, photograph, music track, video clip, and recorded voice. A recording being available to the instructor or on another platform does not itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rightsholder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve permissions and, where applicable, allowlisting with the rightsholder before launch; see YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Do not confuse a public stream with nursing contact hours
A YouTube broadcast does not, by itself, award nursing continuing education contact hours. If you intend to offer nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) credit, confirm the course operator’s eligibility and the requirements of the accreditor or approver that applies to the activity. ANCC describes routes that include becoming an accredited provider, becoming an approved provider through an accredited approver, or obtaining approval for an individual activity. Its FAQ says eligible activities address a professional registered nurse knowledge, skill, or practice gap; use evidence or best-available evidence; and are planned independently from ineligible-company influence. See the ANCC NCPD FAQ.

Also plan how learners will demonstrate participation and how completion will be evaluated. A linear public stream may not provide individual completion evidence. ANCC defines enduring material as an on-demand, learner-paced activity, not simply a live feed left running. Its 2025 NCPD Accredited Provider Policy and Operations Manual says enduring content must be reviewed at least once every three years, or sooner if developments require, and the expiration date cannot exceed three years. If a live recording is offered to a new learner group, ANCC treats it as a new activity and says engagement, evaluation, and contact-hour criteria should fit that format. Confirm how the applicable provider interprets and tracks these requirements rather than assuming a continuously looping YouTube feed qualifies. See the ANCC NCPD materials.
In jointly accredited or medical-education contexts, ACCME says its current integrity and independence standards apply to accredited education in person or virtually. That does not establish that a particular nursing course is ACCME-accredited; check the actual accreditation and scope of the course. See ACCME’s standards.

Troubleshoot common launch problems
- Live streaming is not available: Verify the channel and check for a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. If you just enabled the feature, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- The encoder does not connect: Recheck that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct fields, and confirm the encoder is sending to the stream created in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The preview is missing or unhealthy: Confirm the encoder is running and sending the selected recording, then inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Check the video and audio source and test a restart before the public launch.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced: Investigate possible third-party content matches. Review rights for all included media and ask the rightsholder about Content ID allowlisting where appropriate; a license alone may not prevent interruption.
- The full broadcast is not archived: Check whether the session exceeded 12 hours. YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior covers streams under 12 hours, not longer ones; use planned shorter sessions or a separate recording process.
- Learners cannot receive or document credit: A public stream alone does not establish NCPD eligibility or prove individual completion. Contact the responsible provider or approver about activity design, learner engagement, evaluation, and participation records before advertising contact hours.
Or let it run in the cloud
