To maintain a robot vacuum, empty its bin as directed, clear hair and debris from the brushes, clean the filter only as its manual allows, and gently wipe sensors using the specified method. The exact cleaning and replacement schedule varies by model, so use the care chart or app for your robot rather than treating another brand’s interval as universal.
How to clean a robot vacuum
- Turn off or pause the robot. Follow the manual’s safe-access instructions before opening covers or removing parts.
- Empty the bin. Use the bin-cleaning steps specified for your model.
- Clear the brushes. Remove brush assemblies only as the manual directs. Remove hair and debris from the bristles, edges, and ends, then reinstall the parts securely. For the Roborock S5, the manufacturer advises removing the side brush to clear hair and pulling out the main brush; a tool can be used to cut hair caught at the brush edges. - Clean the filter as permitted. Check the manual before using water or another cleaning method. Some filters must not be washed: iRobot’s Roomba s Series care chart says not to wash its filter. iRobot Roomba s Series care chart.
- Wipe the sensors as directed. Use the material and method specified for your model. For the S5, Roborock says to wipe sensors with a dry, lint-free cloth. Roborock S5 maintenance instructions.
- Check for wear and reminders. Consult the model’s app or care chart for cleaning intervals and replacement reminders. Before ordering parts, check the robot’s model number and the manufacturer’s compatibility guidance.
How often should you clean or replace parts?
There is no single schedule for every robot vacuum. These manufacturer-published examples differ by brand and series; follow the instructions for your exact model.

These intervals are examples tied to the named product lines, not a calendar for all robot vacuums. Use the care chart or app for your specific model, especially where a replacement interval is not specified for every series.
What to check when pickup drops
If the robot collects less debris than usual, start with basic maintenance. iRobot’s Roomba s Series guidance says: “If you notice the robot picking up less debris from your floor, empty the bin, clean the filter and clean the brushes.” Follow the cleaning and filter-washing limits for your model. If pickup remains poor afterward, consult that model’s error guidance or contact its manufacturer; there is no universal diagnostic sequence established for every robot.

How to choose replacement parts
Brushes and filters are model-specific. Find the robot’s model number, then check the manufacturer’s compatibility guidance before buying a replacement filter, main brush, or side brush. eufy provides accessory purchase links, while iRobot directs owners to official or authorized sources.
