Facebook and Instagram are linked through Meta’s Accounts Center. Adding both accounts there can enable connected features such as sharing Instagram posts, Stories and reels to Facebook, using one account to log in to the other, and syncing selected profile details.

This is different from connecting Instagram to a Facebook Page. A personal Facebook profile uses Accounts Center, while a Page uses the Page’s Linked accounts settings.

Before you start

  • Sign in to the Facebook account and Instagram account you want to connect.
  • Use the latest version of the Instagram app if you are working on a phone.
  • If you are connecting a Facebook Page, make sure you have Facebook access or task access to that Page.

Meta allows multiple Instagram accounts to be added to one Facebook profile, but only one Facebook account can be in a single Accounts Center. If the wrong Facebook account is already there, remove it before adding another.

Link Facebook to Instagram in the Instagram app

This path applies to the Instagram app on Android and iPhone.

  1. Open Instagram.
  2. Tap your Profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Tap the Menu button—the three horizontal lines—in the top-right corner.
  4. Tap Accounts Center.
  5. Tap Accounts.
  6. Tap Add accounts.
  7. Choose Add Facebook account, or choose Add Instagram account if you started with Facebook and are adding Instagram.
  8. Follow the on-screen authentication instructions and confirm the account you want to add.

When both accounts appear under Accounts Center → Accounts, they are connected for Meta’s available connected experiences. The exact prompts can vary depending on which account is already signed in.

Link Instagram from Facebook on a computer

  1. Open Facebook and click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings & privacy, then Settings.
  3. Open Accounts Center.
  4. Click Accounts.
  5. Click Add accounts or Add more.
  6. Follow the prompts to sign in to and add Instagram.

If Facebook displays an email address or phone number for the wrong account, stop and check which Facebook account is currently signed in. Meta can prefill the account already active in the browser or on the device.

What linking actually enables

Adding the accounts to the same Accounts Center does not automatically publish every Instagram post on Facebook. Instead, it makes cross-posting and other connected features available.

After linking, Instagram can provide a Share to Facebook option on the same publishing screen where you write a caption. Depending on your settings and account type, connected experiences can also include:

  • Sharing Instagram posts, Stories and reels to Facebook.
  • Logging in to one account using the other.
  • Syncing selected profile information, such as your name, profile picture, username or avatar.
  • Syncing certain shopping activity.
  • Some profile-discovery and Meta Horizon features.

You can review available sharing controls in Accounts Center. If connected experiences are disabled, cross-posting Instagram posts, Stories and reels to Facebook is unavailable. Content that was already shared remains on the other service; for example, a Story already shared to both platforms remains visible until its normal 24-hour period ends.

Connect Instagram to a Facebook Page

Use this method if you want Instagram connected to a Facebook Page, rather than simply linked to your personal Facebook profile.

  1. Log in to Facebook on a computer.
  2. Click your profile photo in the top-right corner.
  3. Click See all profiles, then select the Page.
  4. Once you have switched into the Page, click the Page’s profile picture in the top-right corner.
  5. Choose Settings & privacy, then Settings.
  6. Under Permissions, click Linked accounts.
  7. Next to Instagram, click View.
  8. Click Connect account and complete the sign-in prompts.

You need Facebook access or task access to the Page. Access to other business assets does not necessarily satisfy this requirement.

When a professional Instagram account is required

If you connect a personal Instagram account to a Page managed in Business Manager, Meta may ask you to switch Instagram to a professional account. Meta states that the resulting professional account is public, so check the privacy implications before accepting the switch.

How to share an Instagram post on Facebook

  1. Make sure the Facebook and Instagram accounts are in the same Accounts Center.
  2. Start creating an Instagram post, reel or Story.
  3. On the publishing or sharing screen, look for the option to share it to Facebook.
  4. Turn on the Facebook sharing option, if shown.
  5. Publish the content.

Linking provides the option; it does not force every future post to appear on Facebook. Sharing settings can differ for posts, Stories and reels.

Remove Facebook from Instagram or disconnect the accounts

From the Instagram app

  1. Open Instagram and go to your Profile.
  2. Tap Menu, then Accounts Center.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Remove next to the account you want to take out of the Accounts Center.
  5. Tap Remove account, then Continue.
  6. Tap Yes, finish removing.

From Instagram on a computer

  1. Click More, shown as the hamburger menu in the bottom-left corner.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Open Accounts Center, then Accounts.
  4. Click Remove next to the profile.
  5. Choose Remove account, then Continue.
  6. Click Yes, remove [name].

From Facebook on a computer

  1. Click your Facebook profile picture.
  2. Go to Settings & privacy → Settings.
  3. Open Accounts Center → Accounts.
  4. Select the account you want to remove.
  5. Click Remove and confirm.

Removing an account from Accounts Center does not delete the Facebook or Instagram account. It removes the account from that connected setup. It also does not automatically log you out of phones, browsers or other active sessions. Review Password and security settings separately if you need to sign out of other devices.

If one account was originally created using the other—for example, Instagram was created with Facebook—Meta may ask you to create a separate password after the connection is removed.

Disconnect Instagram from a Facebook Page

  1. Switch into the Facebook Page.
  2. Click the Page’s profile picture.
  3. Go to Settings & privacy → Settings.
  4. Under Permissions, open Linked accounts.
  5. Next to Instagram, click View.
  6. Click Disconnect account.
  7. Confirm with Yes, disconnect.

Be careful if the Page and Instagram account are covered by an active Meta Verified subscription. Meta warns that disconnecting a subscribed Facebook Page and Instagram account may cancel the subscription in some cases.

Common problems when linking Facebook and Instagram

Problem What to check
The wrong Facebook account appears Log in to the intended Facebook account before starting. Check the email address or phone number shown during authentication and do not approve the prompt until it identifies the correct account.
You cannot add another Facebook account An Accounts Center supports only one Facebook account. Remove the existing Facebook account first, then add the replacement.
Cross-posting is unavailable Confirm that both accounts are in the same Accounts Center and that connected experiences and the relevant sharing control are enabled.
You cannot connect a Page Switch into the correct Page and confirm that your role includes Facebook access or task access. Then use the Page’s Linked accounts menu, not the personal-profile Accounts Center path.
Instagram must become professional This can happen when a personal Instagram account is connected to a Page managed in Business Manager. Accepting the change makes the Instagram account public, according to Meta.
The Remove option is missing Some removal or single-login controls may not be shown if single login for multiple Instagram accounts was never configured. Check the account and login settings available in your current Accounts Center.
The account still appears on the Instagram login screen Unlinking Accounts Center accounts and removing saved login information are separate actions. Instagram can show recently used accounts, accounts associated with the signed-in Google account on Android, or accounts previously saved on the device.

Remove saved Instagram login information from a device

To remove a saved login rather than delete the account:

  1. In Instagram, open your profile and tap Menu.
  2. Scroll to the Login section and log out; or go to the Instagram login screen.
  3. On the login screen, tap Options.
  4. Tap Remove profiles from this device.
  5. Tap Remove next to the account.

This removes stored login information from that device. It does not delete the Instagram account and does not replace a security review of other active sessions.

Profile linking versus Page linking

What you want to connect Correct route
Personal Facebook profile and Instagram Accounts Center → Accounts → Add accounts
Facebook Page and Instagram Switch into the Page, then Settings → Permissions → Linked accounts → Instagram → View

The old Instagram → Settings → Account → Linked Accounts instructions are not the current universal route for connecting a Facebook profile. Use Accounts Center for account-to-account linking.

FAQ

Does linking Facebook and Instagram automatically share all posts?

No. Linking makes sharing available, but you still choose whether to share a post, Story or reel to Facebook. Automatic sharing depends on the connected-experience and sharing controls you enable.

Can I link more than one Instagram account to Facebook?

Yes. Meta allows multiple Instagram accounts to be added to one Facebook profile. However, one Accounts Center can contain only one Facebook account.

Can I add a second Facebook account to the same Accounts Center?

No. Remove the Facebook account that is already there before adding a different one.

Will unlinking delete my Facebook or Instagram account?

No. Removing an account from Accounts Center removes the connection; it does not itself delete either account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does unlinking sign me out everywhere?

No. Existing sessions and devices are not automatically logged out. Review active sessions separately in Facebook or Instagram security settings.

Why is Instagram asking me to switch to a professional account?

Meta may require this when a personal Instagram account is connected to a Facebook Page managed in Business Manager. A professional account is public, so review the change before continuing.

Why does Instagram still show my account after I unlink it?

Accounts Center linking is separate from saved login information. The account may remain on the device because it was recently used, saved for login, or associated with the signed-in Google account on Android.

Do I need a command or special software to link the accounts?

No. Meta’s supported process uses the Instagram or Facebook interface. There is no command-line command involved.

The Bottom Line

For a personal Facebook profile, use Instagram → Profile → Menu → Accounts Center → Accounts → Add accounts, or open the same Accounts Center from Facebook settings. For a Facebook Page, switch into the Page and use Settings → Permissions → Linked accounts. Linking enables sharing and other connected features, but it does not automatically publish everything or delete either account when disconnected.
