To keep decor from sliding as a lazy Susan turns, place a flat non-slip liner on the tray. If one item tips, museum putty under its base may help when the product is suitable for both the item and the tray. First check what is moving: decor on the tray, or the entire turntable on the shelf. Each needs a different fix.
Find out what is moving
Turn the lazy Susan slowly and watch the contact points. If an object moves across the rotating surface, address the tray-to-object interface. If the whole turntable shifts on the shelf, address the base-to-shelf interface instead. A liner on top will not stop the base from moving; grip beneath the base will not secure decor to the tray.

How to secure decor on the rotating tray
Use a flat non-slip liner for sliding
- Choose a non-slip mat or shelf liner that fits the rotating surface.
- Position or trim it so it lies flat, without folds or curled edges.
- Check that no part of the liner reaches the rotating mechanism, then turn the tray slowly to confirm it stays in place. Lazy Susan guide
A liner can reduce sliding, but it does not correct an unstable base or make a top-heavy decoration safe.
Use museum putty only when materials are compatible
For a small item that still moves or tips, museum putty can help hold its base in place. Gaylord Archival’s instructions describe rolling small balls or strips, placing them under the item’s base, pressing down, and twisting the item into position. The supplier limits this guidance to nonporous objects and surfaces. Do not assume putty is safe for every finish or collectible; check the chosen product’s instructions before applying it. Arrange items for stability
- Distribute weight evenly across the tray; an Amazon Basics clear lazy Susan organizer manual recommends even weight distribution. Amazon Basics manual
- Place top-heavy decor where it is less likely to be disturbed, rather than relying on a rim to hold it upright.
- Make sure each item stands securely on its own base before rotating the tray.
If the whole lazy Susan shifts on the shelf
Use a suitable grippy material beneath the turntable base, not just a liner on the upper surface. Boston University’s construction guide describes attaching non-slip rubber to the base. What a rim can—and cannot—do
A raised edge may help keep small objects from moving directly off the tray, and a textured surface may add grip. Neither substitutes for a stable object, balanced placement, or an appropriate non-slip surface. In particular, a rim cannot prevent a top-heavy object from tipping. Lazy Susan guide

Use extra care with valuable or delicate objects
Putty compatibility depends on the object and surface. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s care and handling guide offers general advice for handling art objects, but it is not lazy Susan product testing or a guarantee that a particular adhesive is safe for a particular finish.
