Keep one authoritative record for each conference, assign someone to maintain it, and update every public listing whenever a date, venue, status, ticket price, or availability changes. For Google event results, use a dedicated page for the event, accurate local dates and times, and the correct event status; structured data can help Google understand the page, but it does not guarantee enhanced search display.
Start with one authoritative event record
Choose a canonical event page or event-management record as the source of truth, and name the person responsible for approving and publishing changes. This ownership system is a practical way to avoid conflicting updates; Google requires accurate event information on the target page but does not prescribe how an organization manages its internal records.
Keep the confirmed details together in that record: the full event name, start and end dates, start and end times, local timezone, venue name and complete address, public ticket URL, current ticket price, and availability. Confirm changes with the organizer before publishing them. Google says event information should accurately describe the event name, start date, and location, and its event data model includes location and start date among its properties. Google’s Event structured data guidance explains the requirements and supported fields.
What a complete conference listing needs
Give each conference a page focused on that one event. Google recommends a unique event page as the target for its event search experience; a general calendar page that lists multiple events is not the recommended target.

- Identity and location: Use the full event name, venue name, and detailed address. Keep these consistent between the event page and any ticket or calendar listing.
- Dates and times: Publish the start and end dates for a multiday conference. Include the local start and end times and the correct timezone when known.
- Tickets: Link directly to the public purchase page where applicable. Keep currency, availability, and price current. Google’s guidance says the lowest available ticket price shown should include service charges and fees.
- Status: Make clear whether the event is scheduled, cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled, and use the corresponding status in structured data if the page uses it.
How to update a listing when details change
- Confirm the change. Verify the new date, venue, ticket details, or status with the event organizer. Record who approved it and when.
- Update the event’s canonical page or record. Treat that as the source of truth before changing copies elsewhere.
- Update other active listings. Check the ticketing platform, association calendar, venue page, partner calendars, and promotional email or social posts that still contain the old information. Keeping these aligned is an operational safeguard; updating your website alone does not change third-party pages.
- Check the result. Open the public pages and confirm the new information is visible. If the page uses structured data, test it and review Search Console for event rich-result issues.
Google advises event publishers to check whether a third-party event publisher is already integrated with its event search experience before building a separate integration. Depending on who controls the page, an event publisher, a content management system (CMS) feature, or structured data added to the page may be the practical route. Google’s guidance for event publishers discusses these options.
Publish dates and times without introducing errors
For a known local time, represent the date and time in ISO 8601 format with the correct UTC offset. The offset matters: an incorrect one can make the time resolve to a different local day. If the conference spans multiple days, include both its start and end dates rather than implying it is a one-day event.

If the start time has not been confirmed, publish the date without a time. Do not invent an hour or use midnight as a placeholder. Google’s event guidance and Search Console Data Highlighter guidance both caution against supplying a fake time when it is unknown.
Handle cancellation, postponement, and rescheduling correctly
Changing the status should not erase the event’s identity or its original date. Google’s Search documentation says: “When the event status changes, DON’T remove the startDate.” Retain the original start date and location when applying the status change.

The best route depends on who controls the event page, whether a platform already supplies event information to Google, and whether your team can edit the page or its HTML.

| Route | When it fits | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Event publisher or ticketing platform | The platform hosts the public event page or already participates in Google’s event search experience. | Confirm who can edit the listing, how quickly changes appear, and whether the platform is already integrated before creating a separate integration. |
| CMS feature, plugin, or Data Highlighter | Your organization controls the page through a CMS, or needs to highlight event details on a page without directly adding structured data. | Check which fields the tool exposes and whether the rendered public page reflects the latest details. Google’s Data Highlighter guidance explains its use and warns against entering an unknown time as a placeholder. |
| Structured data added to the event page | Your team can edit the page markup and maintain its event data as details change. | Keep the structured data consistent with visible page content, then test it and monitor Search Console. |
Keep prices and availability current
Ticket information can become inaccurate even when the dates and venue remain unchanged. Refresh availability when tickets sell out or reopen, and update the price when it changes. For Google’s event display, the lowest available ticket price should include applicable service charges and fees; use the correct currency code and a direct public ticket URL where applicable. See Google’s Event structured data documentation for the relevant details.
Validate the page and monitor it after changes
- Test the event page: Use Google’s Rich Results Test to check structured data for issues.
- Review Search Console: Check the event rich result status and event performance reports for errors or changes in search performance.
- Test again after page changes: Recheck after modifying the page template or event markup, since a template change can affect multiple listings.
A valid implementation can make a page eligible for a Google search feature; Google does not promise that it will appear in a particular feature. Availability is also limited to the regions and languages Google lists for its event search experience: Australia (English), Brazil (Portuguese), Canada (English), Germany (German), India (English), Latin America (Spanish), Spain (Spanish), the United Kingdom (English), and the United States (English). The current event documentation describes both eligibility and geographic scope.
