If your ASMR playlist starts over after its last video, turn off playlist Loop. Autoplay is a separate setting: it starts a related video, rather than repeating the playlist. If the playlist jumps back to the beginning after you close YouTube or switch devices, the cited YouTube guidance does not establish a setting that guarantees it will resume at the exact last video and timestamp.
First identify what is restarting
- It reaches the final playlist item, then starts the first: check playlist Loop.
- A different, related video plays after an item ends: check Autoplay. It does not control playlist repetition.
- It starts at the first item after you reopen YouTube or change devices: that is a resume-position issue. The official help pages cited below do not promise a universal way to preserve the exact position.
- Your chosen order disappears when you close a browser: you may have used a temporary queue rather than a saved playlist. Browser queues do not persist after the browser closes.
Turn off playlist Loop on your device
YouTube describes Loop as a way to repeat a video or playlist. The location of the control varies by device, so change it on the device where you listen. See YouTube’s Loop instructions.
Computer or browser
- Open a video that belongs to the playlist and start playback.
- Expand the playlist panel beside the video.
- Find the Loop control in the playlist box. If playlist repetition is active, click it to turn it off.
- If a related video plays after the current video or playlist ends, turn Autoplay off separately at the bottom of the player.
Phone or tablet
- Play a video through the playlist so its playlist controls appear.
- Use the Loop control in the playlist control box to turn off playlist repetition.
- Check the loop icon: YouTube’s instructions distinguish repeating one video with a “1” marker from repeating the playlist. If the icon shows the single-video state, tap again to change the state and make sure the playlist is not set to repeat.
- Check Autoplay separately in the player or app Settings if YouTube starts a related video after an item ends.
For mobile and tablet, YouTube says adding videos to a queue requires Premium; a queue is not the same as a saved playlist. See YouTube’s queue instructions.
TV or game console
- Play the playlist.
- While a video is playing, use your remote or controller to show the player controls.
- Find Repeat and cycle through its states. Turn off the state labeled “Repeat • Playlist” if you do not want playback to return to the first item after the last.
- If a related video plays instead, change Autoplay independently in the YouTube TV app Settings.
Playlist Loop, single-video Loop, Autoplay, and queues
| Feature or state | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist Loop | Repeats the playlist after its last item. | Turn it off to stop the playlist cycling back to the beginning. |
| Single-video Loop | Repeats one video rather than the whole playlist. | On mobile, YouTube’s instructions show a “1” on the loop icon for this state; tap again to change it. |
| Autoplay | Starts another related video after a video ends. | Turn it off separately if an unrelated recommendation is playing. See YouTube’s Autoplay instructions. |
| Temporary browser queue | Holds a sequence of videos for playback. | YouTube says it does not save when the browser closes. Save the sequence as a playlist if you want it available later; the instructions do not say this preserves your last playback position. |
| Saved playlist | Keeps a sequence available as a playlist. | You can manage playlist contents and order, but the cited guidance does not promise restoration of an exact video and timestamp after closing or changing devices. See YouTube’s playlist guidance for Android. |
If the playlist still resumes at the beginning
Turning off Loop addresses repetition at the end of a playlist; it is not a guaranteed fix for playback resuming at the beginning after reopening the app, browser, or another device. YouTube’s guidance on managing recommendations and search results covers watch history controls, but does not promise playlist-position restoration. Treat exact resume behavior as unresolved rather than assuming there is a setting that always preserves it.
