OBS Studio can automatically reconnect after a lost connection, but its reconnect setting does not, by itself, relaunch OBS after the application crashes. For an unattended meditation stream, treat a network interruption and a stopped OBS process as separate failures. The first may recover inside OBS; the second needs an external way to restart OBS, and you must verify that YouTube has returned the intended broadcast to live.
First, identify what actually stopped
A 24/7 stream has more than one component: OBS must be running and sending video, and YouTube must have the broadcast in a live state. A problem with one does not necessarily mean the other is working.

OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide addresses connection drops, not restarting a crashed OBS process. The available sources do not establish a particular watchdog, scheduled task, or command-line configuration that safely relaunches OBS and resumes the same YouTube broadcast across systems.
When OBS is still running: configure and troubleshoot reconnect
OBS provides automatic reconnect controls, including a retry delay and maximum-retry setting. Their labels and availability can vary by OBS version; the current English interface strings include “Enable Auto-Reconnect,” “Retry Delay,” and “Maximum Retries.” In OBS, open Settings and inspect the Advanced section for the network/reconnect controls available in your version. Enabling these controls allows a running OBS process to retry its output connection; it does not restart the application if its process exits.

If the connection keeps dropping
- Check the network path. OBS identifies dropped frames or intermittent disconnections as signs of a connection problem between the computer and the ingest server. Diagnose the computer’s connection and the selected ingest connection rather than treating every drop as an OBS crash.
- Check security software. Firewall or other security software can interfere with the connection. Review its rules for OBS and the streaming connection.
- Consider the router or modem. OBS notes that restarting modem/router equipment can resolve some connectivity problems. This is a network troubleshooting step, not a fix for a crashed OBS process.
- Review retry behavior. If retries stop before the network is available again, check the retry delay and maximum-retry values in your OBS version. Choose settings appropriate to your connection and test them; no setting guarantees that the upstream connection or YouTube broadcast will recover.

When OBS crashes: plan for a separate restart and verify YouTube
Because reconnect is a feature running inside OBS, it cannot be relied on to bring back an OBS process that has stopped. To recover unattended from that failure, you would need a separate process supervisor or operating-system restart facility configured for your computer. The available sources do not verify a universal configuration that relaunches OBS, restores the intended scene and media, reconnects to YouTube, and resumes the same broadcast. Avoid assuming that an automatic application restart alone completes the recovery.

- Arrange an external restart path. Use an appropriate supervisor or operating-system facility for your platform, or have an operator restart OBS. Configuration details are platform- and version-specific and should be verified against the documentation for the software you choose.
- Check OBS after it starts. Confirm it opens, selects the intended scene and media, and is configured to send to the intended YouTube destination. A running application is not proof that it is streaming.
- Check YouTube Studio and the watch page. Confirm that the intended broadcast—not a different event—is live and that viewers can see the meditation stream. Do not infer YouTube’s broadcast state from OBS’s status alone.
- Test the whole recovery path. On the actual computer and broadcast setup, verify the restart, OBS startup, selected content, connection, and resulting YouTube live event. This is a practical check, not an official guarantee that every crash can be recovered automatically.
Understand YouTube’s broadcast state and long-stream limits
YouTube’s scheduled-broadcast Auto-start and Auto-stop controls affect how a broadcast transitions between waiting, receiving a stream, and ending. OBS’s YouTube guidance describes these controls, but they do not guarantee that every OBS crash will resume the same broadcast. After any recovery, check the actual event in YouTube Studio. The relevant OBS Project forum guide was created in 2015, so its interface details may not match current YouTube Studio or OBS labels: How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio.
Do not assume a YouTube broadcast remains available indefinitely without incoming stream data. The older OBS forum guide says broadcasts eventually end after multiple hours without streaming data, but it does not support a precise current timeout promise. For meditation viewers who expect to rewind, YouTube also warns that DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. See Turn on DVR on live streams.
