You can sideload Google Play on the 2022 Amazon Fire 7 (12th Generation) and Fire HD 8 (12th Generation) running Fire OS 8, but it is an unofficial workaround—not an Amazon- or Google-supported installation. The tablet-only method uses four APKs installed in a specific order, followed by a reboot. App compatibility is not guaranteed.
Confirm that your tablet and Fire OS version match
This guide is for the 2022 Fire 7 (12th Generation) and Fire HD 8 (12th Generation), both running Fire OS 8. Amazon’s Fire tablet software updates page lists these models under Fire OS 8 and currently displays version 8.3.3.7 for each. The version installed on your tablet may differ.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Device Options > System Updates and check the installed Fire OS version. Apply available updates before proceeding.
Do not use APK instructions intended for older Fire tablets or Fire OS releases. Amazon describes Fire OS 8 as having feature parity with Android 11 and using API level 30, but that does not mean the tablet includes Google services. Amazon’s Fire OS developer documentation cautions: “Also, remember that although Fire OS 8 has parity with Android 11, you can’t use Google services on Amazon Fire devices.”

Prepare the tablet for sideloading
- Open Settings > Security & Privacy (the exact wording may vary by Fire OS build).
- Open Apps from Unknown Sources or Install Unknown Apps, then allow Silk Browser to install apps.
- Download APKs only after checking that each package is intended for your tablet’s architecture and Android requirements. For Play Services, the published guide recommends a recent version compatible with ARM64 and Android 11 or later.
Allowing Silk to install apps is a security-sensitive setting. Use it only for the installation, and avoid APKs from sources you cannot assess. The published guide specifically warns not to use Google Services Framework version 11 or later because it did not install in the author’s test; treat that as dated guide advice, not a guarantee about every package available today.
Install the four APKs in dependency order
Download each required package, then open the downloaded file and complete its installer before moving to the next one:

Package variants and minimum requirements may change. Before installing, check that the file matches the 12th-generation tablet, its architecture, and its installed Fire OS version. Do not assume a package selected for another Fire generation will work here.
Reboot, then sign in
- After all four packages finish installing, restart the tablet.
- Open the Google Play Store after the reboot and sign in with your Google account.
If the Store does not open or sign-in fails, confirm that all four packages installed in the listed order and that you selected compatible variants. The published process does not guarantee that every installation will succeed on every current Fire OS build.

What to expect after installation
A working Play Store does not mean every Play app or Google feature will work. Fire OS may lack APIs an app expects, and these tablets do not have official Google-services support. Liliputing reported that some apps can display a Google Play Services warning even after installation. Its December 2022 update said Fire OS 8.3.1.3 restored installation and use for some Google apps on its tested tablet, while YouTube Kids remained problematic. That is a historical report about a particular build and device, not a compatibility promise for current software.
If an app refuses to install, crashes, or reports a Play Services problem, the limitation may be app or Fire OS compatibility rather than a missing Play Store icon. Consider whether that specific app works through Amazon’s Appstore or its web version instead. Removing the sideloaded Google packages is not a guaranteed fix for every issue; use the tablet’s standard app-management settings if you decide to uninstall them.
