These steps may help preserve the battery and stretch a charge; they cannot restore capacity already lost through aging. Start with Charging optimization, then investigate unusual drain before changing app settings.
Choose the charging option that fits your routine
On supported phones, open Settings → Battery → Battery health → Charging optimization. Menu labels can vary by Pixel model and Android version, so use the closest available label on your device. Google documents the 80% limit for Pixel 6a and later; Adaptive Charging support begins with Pixel 4, though the feature’s behavior varies by model.

With the 80% limit on, Google says the phone may still charge to 100% every tenth cycle to keep capacity readings accurate. For that cycle, leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes after it reaches 100%.
Keep battery management features enabled
Leave Adaptive Battery and individual apps’ battery optimization enabled unless you have a specific reason to change them. They learn how you use the phone and limit unnecessary background activity. After a new setup or reset, learning may take a few weeks, so battery behavior can change while the phone adapts. A few days of extra drain after an Android update can also be normal.

To check an app’s optimization, look under Settings → Apps → [app] → App battery usage or the equivalent option available on your Android version. Avoid restricting apps at random: first check whether their background activity corresponds to the drain you are seeing.
Find the cause of unusually fast drain
- Open Settings → Battery → Battery usage and review the apps and system entries consuming power. Menu wording may differ by Android version.
- Look for an app with unusually high use relative to how much you used it. Check whether it was active in the background, then adjust that app’s battery use only if the evidence points to it.
- If you have a Pixel 6 or later, open Settings → Battery → Battery diagnostics and choose the fast-drain troubleshooting option, if shown. Google documents Battery diagnostics for these models.
- If poor runtime continues, follow the relevant Google Pixel support guidance: Fix battery drain problems on a Pixel phone.
Reduce avoidable drain during the day
Some activities use substantial power, including extended navigation, streaming, hotspot use, and graphics-heavy games. Reduce screen brightness or shorten screen timeout, turn off Always-on Display if you do not need it, and switch off hotspot or other high-drain features when idle. These changes reduce power use; they do not restore lost battery capacity.

Battery Saver is a temporary option when you need to stretch the charge remaining. It is a way to manage current use, not a battery-repair feature.
Keep the phone from getting too hot
Google advises avoiding heat because it can increase drain and damage the battery. If the phone feels unusually warm, stop demanding tasks and let it cool. Avoid charging it in a hot environment or leaving it somewhere exposed to heat.

Know what settings cannot fix
Pixel batteries are consumable lithium-ion batteries. Charging optimization and usage changes can manage battery stress and runtime, but no app, charging accessory, or setting rejuvenates an aged battery. A factory reset or third-party “battery repair” app should not be treated as a way to reverse physical battery aging.
Google’s published replacement guidance says Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold batteries are rated to 800 charge cycles before the stated threshold, while Pixel 8a and later are rated to 1,000 cycles. Google recommends replacement if remaining capacity falls below 80% or the device reaches its model-family cycle count. These are Google’s published thresholds, not a guarantee that every battery will behave identically; the support page does not state a publication year. See Understand your Pixel battery.

Google documents Battery health assistance for Pixel 6a and later, with enablement behavior that varies by device. Check the phone’s battery health settings and Google’s guidance for your model rather than assuming every Pixel exposes the same controls.
