Let shader preloading finish before you judge Call of Duty’s normal performance. If stuttering, low frame rates, or crashes continue afterward, troubleshoot the specific game and platform rather than applying a universal graphics tweak: the official guidance available here is for PC, and fixes can differ by release.

First, make sure shader preloading is complete

On PC, stay at the game’s main menu until shader preloading finishes. Activision Support says the process is part of the first boot and warns that leaving the main menu stops preloading and can lead to performance issues. That guidance appears on its Black Ops 6 PC support page and Warzone PC support page.

If the progress indicator is still active, let it complete before comparing frame rates or diagnosing a persistent problem. Shader compilation can affect rendering while it is underway; the cited support guidance does not promise a particular frame-rate increase once it finishes.

Work through persistent PC performance problems

These checks are PC-focused. Confirm the exact Call of Duty release and consult its current support page; do not assume that a Warzone setting or driver recommendation applies to another title.

  1. Check compatibility. Compare your PC with the selected game’s current system requirements. For Warzone, Activision’s support page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11; use its live requirements link for the exact hardware requirements. Windows or hardware guidance for one release should not be treated as a requirement for every Call of Duty game.
  2. Use the game-specific recommended graphics driver. Activision advises installing the driver recommended for the game when resolving graphics issues. If a newer driver causes problems, its Warzone guidance says to roll back to the recommended version. Driver advice changes over time and can depend on the game and GPU vendor, so check the support page for your release instead of relying on an old version number.
  3. Verify or repair the installation. Use the file verification or repair feature provided by the launcher where available. Activision includes repairing game files in its Warzone PC troubleshooting guidance.
  4. Check for software conflicts. Close background applications and test again. Activision’s Warzone page names NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, and Razer Cortex as applications to disable during troubleshooting. Their presence is not proof that any one of them is causing a particular player’s problem. If closing likely conflicts does not help, a clean boot can help identify whether another startup application is involved.

Distinguish graphics trouble from network lag

Stuttering during rendering, low FPS, crashes, and network lag are different symptoms and may have different causes. Note which one you see, and whether it began before or after shader preloading completed. Do not assume that a bandwidth setting will fix a frame-rate or shader-compilation issue.

On-Demand High-Quality Streaming

Activision describes the On-Demand High-Quality Streaming options as a trade-off between streamed visual quality and bandwidth use. Optimized favors high-fidelity content and uses more bandwidth; Minimal reduces graphical quality and bandwidth use. On a constrained connection, trying Minimal is a reasonable way to reduce bandwidth demand. The support page does not establish that switching options increases FPS or resolves shader stutter. See Activision’s Warzone texture-streaming guidance for the setting’s stated effects.

Collect useful details before escalating

If the problem persists, include the game and version, launcher, GPU and driver version, CPU, RAM, resolution, graphics settings, and a precise description of the symptom. Say whether the issue is stutter, low FPS, a crash, or network lag, and whether it occurs after preloading has completed. For crashes, follow the official PC crash-report process linked from the Warzone PC troubleshooting page.

Do not use old shader timings as a target

Activision’s 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PC troubleshooting article reported average preloading durations ranging from 8 minutes 2 seconds on a listed 3700X/RX5700 system to 37 minutes 12 seconds on a listed FX-6350/HD 7950 system. Those are historical averages for the named configurations, not current benchmarks or expected timings for newer Call of Duty releases. They do not establish how much performance should improve after compilation.
