To reduce personal history in a Google SERP screenshot, adjust Google Search personalization for your sign-in state, use a fresh Chrome Incognito window, keep address-bar suggestions and browser chrome out of the capture, and inspect the saved image before sharing. These steps reduce some sources of exposure; they cannot make every person’s results identical.
First, identify what you want to hide
There are two separate issues: personal information visible around the results page, and personalization that may affect the results themselves.
- Visible suggestions or browser details: Close or crop out the address bar, dismiss its suggestion list, and keep unrelated tabs, bookmarks, profile indicators, and notifications out of frame.
- Personalized Google results: Change Google’s Search personalization control for your current sign-in state. Incognito alone does not guarantee non-personalized results.
Google says personalization can alter result ordering or the placement of content blocks. Even with personalization off, location, language, device type, and current searches may affect what appears. Google Search Help
Turn off the relevant Google Search personalization setting
If you are signed in
Turn off Personalized Recommendations. Google says this reduces individual results and features that depend on personalization. It does not pause or delete activity stored in your account, remove app or website preferences, or remove saved material such as Collections. Google Search Help

If you are signed out
Turn off Search customization. When enabled, this setting lets Search use searches from the browser for more relevant results and recommendations. The control is available through Google Search settings. Google notes that its Search services settings are being updated, so the labels or path may differ between users; search the current settings page or Google help for the named control if needed. Use a fresh Chrome Incognito window
- In Chrome on desktop, open the menu and select New Incognito window.
- Run the search in that window. Chrome does not automatically sign you into a Google Account in Incognito.
- When finished, close every Incognito window if you want its temporary cookies and site data removed from that device.
Incognito limits what Chrome retains locally after the session; it does not delete activity already stored in a Google Account or make you invisible. Google, websites, and organizations managing a network—such as an employer, school, or internet provider—may still be able to observe activity. Downloads and bookmarks remain on the device. Keep browser suggestions and personal details out of the frame
Address-bar autocomplete is a separate exposure from the results page. Chrome says synced browsing history can inform personalized suggestions. Deleting a URL from browser history stops it influencing those suggestions. Turning off the setting that improves search suggestions may still leave suggestions based on local search and browsing history. Chrome URL and Search Data Help
For a clean capture, avoid opening the address bar after loading the SERP, dismiss any suggestion list, and crop out browser controls when practical. These are screenshot-hygiene steps, not controls over Google’s stored activity or results.

Capture and check the screenshot
- Load the results page after applying the settings that match your sign-in state.
- Capture only the area needed for the example or report, excluding unrelated tabs and browser controls if they are not relevant.
- Open the saved image and check the query, account or profile controls, suggestions, notifications, and other visible details before sharing.
- If you need to redact something, edit a copy of the image. Redaction changes the copy, not Google’s stored activity or the original SERP.
