You can use a YouTube Live event to invite interested viewers to join your email list, but a stream cannot guarantee signups. Offer something relevant, send viewers to a clear signup page, explain the invitation during the broadcast, and follow up only in ways permitted for your audience’s location. Link behavior also depends on the stream format and where viewers watch.

Build a simple stream-to-email funnel

  1. Choose a relevant signup offer. Give viewers a clear reason to subscribe that fits the broadcast, such as event notes, a checklist, a related lesson, or a replay notification. These are examples, not proven conversion tactics. State what subscribers will receive and, if known, how often you will email them. Do not imply that watching the stream signs someone up automatically.
  2. Create a direct signup page. Link to a form that asks for an email address and clearly explains what the emails are for. Avoid sending viewers through unnecessary steps. Mailchimp says its signup forms record the submission date and time; check the current platform terms and data-handling details for the service you use. Mailchimp’s permission guidance defines permission as express, verifiable consent.
  3. Schedule and promote the event. YouTube recommends sharing the stream link at least 48 hours before going live. Promote it through connected social accounts, embed the URL on your website, and show upcoming events in your channel’s Live section. See YouTube’s live-stream promotion guidance.
  4. Place the signup link where viewers can use it. YouTube’s link guidance says URLs in Live chat and channel descriptions are clickable for horizontal streams. In the mobile app’s vertical live feed, URLs in Live chat and channel descriptions are non-clickable. Clickable external links require access to advanced features. Check the current format, surface, and device behavior before the event using YouTube’s external-link rules and vertical live-stream guidance.
  5. Invite viewers aloud as well as in writing. Say what the offer is, where the signup link appears, and what happens after someone subscribes. Add the same clear instruction to eligible chat or description placements. YouTube’s link behavior varies by format and device; the available guidance does not quantify how often to repeat an invitation or how much it increases signups.
  6. Send only the promised follow-up. Deliver the resource or update viewers requested, identify the sender, and provide a clear unsubscribe route. Email-marketing permission rules depend on the recipient’s jurisdiction and circumstances; they are not the same everywhere. See the legal section below.
  7. Keep the invitation available after the broadcast. YouTube says public archives can increase reach for future streams and recommends organizing archives and highlights into playlists. A replay description can preserve the signup invitation for later viewers, subject to the same link and policy constraints. YouTube’s promotion guidance covers archives and playlists.

Where to put the signup link on YouTube Live

Viewer surface Link behavior described by YouTube What to do
Horizontal Live chat URLs are clickable. Post the direct signup-page URL and explain what it offers.
Horizontal channel description URLs are clickable. Include the signup link in the description and make the offer easy to understand.
Vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app: chat and channel description URLs are non-clickable. Do not rely on a tap-through link in these placements. Tell viewers where to find the signup page using a route appropriate to your channel and event.

These behaviors are from YouTube’s current link overview; verify them in the intended format and device before the broadcast. Access to advanced features is required for clickable external links. YouTube also prohibits external links that lead to content violating its Community Guidelines, including links shared through live streams. Keep the destination legitimate and describe it accurately. Read YouTube’s external-link policy.

Choose a signup confirmation flow and respect permission

Mailchimp documents two common signup workflows: with single opt-in, a person joins after submitting the form; with double opt-in, the person confirms through a follow-up email. These are implementation choices, not a guarantee that either method meets the law for every sender or recipient. Mailchimp notes that opt-in practices and legal requirements vary by country. Compare providers on form customization, permission records, confirmation flow, delivery needs, and unsubscribe handling rather than assuming all forms work alike. Mailchimp explains its opt-in processes.

  • United Kingdom: The ICO says electronic-mail marketing generally requires specific consent unless a defined soft opt-in applies. Recipients must have a simple way to opt out. See the ICO’s electronic-mail marketing guidance.
  • United States: The FTC explains that CAN-SPAM does not generally require prior consent, but senders must provide an opt-out and honor opt-outs promptly. See the FTC’s CAN-SPAM compliance guide.
  • Other locations or mixed audiences: Do not treat UK and US rules as a universal standard. Check requirements that apply to you and the people you email, and get qualified advice when needed.

Measure what your own events produce

YouTube has reported large platform-wide live audiences: more than 600 million logged-in viewers on average watched live content, including archives, each day in August 2026, according to a September 23, 2026 Google / YouTube Blog post. YouTube also reported that over 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live content on average in Q2 2025. These are company-reported, dated audience figures, not evidence that an individual creator will gain email subscribers.

No source here establishes a YouTube Live email-signup conversion rate or a typical list size gained per event. Track your own funnel instead: record the event, signup-page visits, completed forms, and—where your email platform supports it—confirmations. Compare events with similar offers and formats, and avoid treating a change in signups as proof of cause when other factors also changed.
