In Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, the Lucky Locator is a Sprite Mastery reward: a current guide reports that you earn one after mastering 21 Sprites. It is not ordinary chest loot. Once you have it, activate it from the Gizmo Wheel, follow its map marker to the buried Sprite Chest, dig it up with your pickaxe, and collect the Sprite.
How to unlock the Lucky Locator
- Progress through the Sprite Mastery track by mastering Sprites.
- In Chapter 7 Season 4, a guide updated September 21, 2026, reports that the Lucky Locator is awarded at 21 mastered Sprites. Epic confirms Sprite Mastery as a Gizmo reward path, but its official v41.30 notes do not state the Season 4 threshold. Check the current in-game reward track in case it has changed. Beebom’s current guide reports the threshold; Epic’s v41.30 notes establish the general reward route.
Do not search ordinary chests for the Locator: the current guide identifies it as a mastery reward, not a container drop.
How to use the Lucky Locator
- Equip or hold your pickaxe and open the Gizmo Wheel. The listed inputs are Y or Triangle on controller, or L on keyboard; the binding can vary with platform and settings.
- Select the Lucky Locator and activate it. It will mark a buried Sprite Chest on your map.
- Travel to the marker and dig the indicated spot with your pickaxe.
- Collect the Sprite from the chest. To extract a collected Sprite, use a Portable Extractor.
Epic describes the Lucky Locator as a Gizmo that “guarantees a Chest containing a Sprite you haven’t collected yet.” The current use instructions and chest location details are reported by Beebom.

Extraction Gizmos are consumables accessed through the pickaxe slot. Epic Player Support says they cannot be traded or dropped when a player is eliminated, and that Gizmo inventory expires at the end of the season. The precise deadline is shown on the in-game Battle Royale mode selection screen or in the Gizmo Wheel; rely on that timer rather than an assumed calendar date. Beebom additionally reports that the Locator is account-bound and consumed when activated, even if you are eliminated before collecting the Sprite. That detail comes from a secondary guide rather than Epic’s cited support page, so check the item behavior in your current match if it matters.
