To get real-time lyrics in Apple Music, open the song that is playing and select Lyrics; on iPhone or iPad, first open the Now Playing screen. In Shazam, identify a song and open Lyrics to follow its synced lines. Both apps show synced lyrics only when they are available for that track, so you may see full lyrics instead—or no lyrics at all.

The right route depends on what you are doing: Apple Music shows lyrics for a song you are listening to from its catalog, while Shazam identifies a song and offers a lyrics view afterward. Neither app can force line-by-line timing or lyrics to appear for a track that does not have them.

Which app should I use for real-time lyrics?

Use Apple Music when you are listening to a song in its catalog and want lyrics alongside playback. Use Shazam when you want to identify a song and then see whether synced lyrics are available for it. The apps serve related but different needs: Apple Music starts with playback; Shazam starts with identification.

In either app, the lyrics are tied to the song, not a universal live transcription of whatever is audible. A track without available lyrics cannot be made to display synced lines through these controls. If you already know what is playing and are listening in Apple Music, start there. If you do not know the title or artist, Shazam can identify the song first, then you can check its Lyrics view.

Availability is the key variable in both routes. A Lyrics button may be unavailable, full lyrics may appear without following the music, or a lyric option may be present for one track and absent for another. Those outcomes do not necessarily mean that you have used the wrong control; timing and display depend on what is available for the specific song.

How do I get real-time lyrics in Apple Music on iPhone or iPad?

Start playback, open the Now Playing screen, and tap Lyrics. If the track has time-synced lyrics, the lines follow playback; if not, Apple Music may show the full lyrics without syncing them to the song. This is the standard route when you are already listening in Apple Music and want the words on screen.

  1. Open Apple Music and play a song from the Apple Music catalog.
  2. Tap the currently playing song to open Now Playing.
  3. Tap Lyrics to show the lyrics. Tap it again to hide them.

Once synced lines appear, they are more than a static block of text: tap a line to jump playback to that part of the song. That can help you return to a verse, replay a particular line, or start listening from a point farther into the track. If you tap a line and the playback position changes, you are using the time-synced view. If you see the words but not line-by-line movement, the song may have full lyrics without synced timing.

Apple’s instructions for the mobile lyrics view are in its iPhone and iPad Apple Music lyrics guide. The essential steps do not change if you are using an iPad: play the song, open Now Playing, and select Lyrics. The important condition remains whether the track has lyrics, and whether those lyrics are time-synced.

Can I see Apple Music lyrics offline?

On iPhone, lyrics can be viewed offline for a downloaded song. If you are offline and the song has not been downloaded, Apple lists that as a possible reason lyrics may not appear. This makes the download status relevant when you lose network access: a saved song can still have lyrics available, but an undownloaded song may not be able to provide them offline.

Downloading the track does not guarantee that lyrics are available for it, and it does not turn unsynchronized lyrics into synced lyrics. It addresses the offline playback case for a downloaded song; it is not a way to add lyrics that Apple Music does not provide for that track. If the song is downloaded and lyrics are still missing, consider track availability as well as connectivity.

See Apple’s iPhone guide to song credits and lyrics for the offline and lyric-view details. Apple’s support information specifically describes offline lyric viewing on iPhone for downloaded songs; do not assume the same offline behavior for another app or device based on that detail alone.

Can I translate, pronounce, or share lyrics?

Apple Music may offer lyric translation or pronunciation when those options are available for the song and a language that matches the device’s preferred languages. These are optional additions to the lyrics view, not universal controls for every track. Availability varies by song and language, so a missing translation or pronunciation option does not necessarily indicate a problem with Apple Music.

If an option is not shown, first keep the limits in mind: Apple ties these features to availability for the song and the device’s preferred languages. The support guidance does not say that changing a playback setting will make every translation or pronunciation option appear. A track can have ordinary lyrics without those additional features.

On iPhone, Apple also allows sharing up to 150 characters when time-synced lyrics are available. Use Share Lyrics or touch and hold a lyric line to access the sharing option. The 150-character limit is a cap on what can be shared through this lyrics feature, not permission to share an entire song’s lyrics from the app. Apple documents these features in its iPhone song credits and lyrics guide.

How do I show lyrics in Apple Music on a Mac or PC?

Play a song from the Apple Music catalog and select the Lyrics button at the top of the screen. Synced lyrics appear when available; otherwise, Apple Music may show the full lyrics without timing them to playback. The route is shorter than on mobile because you use the Lyrics button at the top rather than opening a Now Playing screen first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Apple Music on your Mac or PC and play a catalog song.
  2. Select Lyrics at the top of the screen.
  3. If the button is grayed out, check the song source, lyrics availability, and internet connection.

Apple says a grayed-out Lyrics button can mean that the song is not from the Apple Music catalog, lyrics are unavailable, or the device is offline. These are separate possibilities: a connection check will not resolve a track that lacks available lyrics, and a catalog limitation will not be fixed by simply reopening the lyrics panel. Check each one before concluding that the feature is broken.

If you are playing a song from a source other than the Apple Music catalog, Apple’s desktop instructions do not promise that the same lyrics control will work. If the song is from the catalog and the device is online but the Lyrics button remains disabled, the track may not have lyrics available. For platform-specific instructions, see Apple’s Mac or PC lyrics guide.

The mobile and desktop routes share the same basic distinction: synced lines appear only when available, while full lyrics may appear without timing. Use the lyrics panel to follow a track when possible, but do not treat a grayed-out desktop button or an untimed block of words as proof that every song should have synchronized lyrics.

How do I see lyrics in Shazam?

Identify the song, then tap Lyrics to follow synced lines if they are available. Shazam’s guide says time-synced lyrics are available only with a newly identified song, and not every track has lyrics. That means the immediate post-identification moment is the best time to use the synced-lyrics route.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Shazam on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
  2. Identify the song you want to hear about.
  3. Tap Lyrics to open the lyric view, when the control is available.

Shazam’s synced-lyrics flow is most useful immediately after identification. If you want to revisit a song you identified earlier, open it from your saved Shazams and tap Lyrics; the option remains dependent on that track’s lyric availability. There is an important distinction here: Shazam says the time-synced display is available only with a newly identified song, while its guide also describes opening a saved identified song and checking Lyrics. For a previously identified song, the Lyrics option may still be worth checking, but do not expect a synced view to be available in every case.

Shazam is therefore a useful first stop when you hear a song but do not know what it is, not a substitute for a universal lyrics database or a promise that every identification will have timed lines. Identification and lyric availability are separate outcomes: Shazam may identify a song successfully even when the lyrics feature is absent. Apple’s Shazam guide to songs, lyrics, and music videos explains the song and lyrics flow.

Why aren’t lyrics showing up or staying in sync?

First distinguish a missing lyric control from lyrics that appear but do not follow playback. The causes differ: an unavailable catalog track, offline playback, or track-specific lyric availability can prevent lyrics from appearing, while full lyrics without timing indicate that synced lyrics may not be available. For Shazam, whether you opened the lyrics immediately after identification also matters.

A practical check is to ask three questions: are you using the right app for the task, is the song in a situation the app supports, and does that specific track have lyrics or synced timing? Apple Music mobile begins from Now Playing; its desktop version uses the Lyrics button for a catalog song. Shazam begins with identification and a Lyrics tap afterward. Once the route is right, the remaining limitation may simply be track-specific availability.

Apple Music has no Lyrics button or the button is disabled

  • Check the song source: Apple’s desktop instructions specify a song from the Apple Music catalog. A song from another source may not offer the same lyrics control.
  • Check connectivity: Apple lists being offline as one possible reason the desktop button is grayed out. On iPhone or iPad, an offline song that is not downloaded is another possible issue.
  • Allow for track availability: lyrics are not available for every song. If the control is missing after checking the source and connection, the track may not have lyrics in Apple Music.
  • Check what is actually unavailable: the missing control and missing synced timing are not the same problem. Full lyrics can appear without timing, so a lyrics panel that opens but does not move line by line may be displaying the available full lyrics rather than failing to load.

For an offline iPhone or iPad, Apple’s guidance identifies a song that is not downloaded as a possible reason lyrics may not appear. If the song has been downloaded, you can check the lyrics view offline, but the song still needs to have lyrics available. For Mac or PC, Apple lists being offline as a possible explanation for a gray Lyrics button. These platform-specific cases are worth checking separately rather than assuming one troubleshooting step applies equally to every device.

Lyrics appear, but they do not follow the song

Apple Music may display the full lyrics when time-synced lyrics are unavailable. Seeing the words on screen does not necessarily mean that line-by-line timing is available for that track. If you want timed lyrics, look for lines that follow playback or use a line to jump to that point in the song; a static full-lyrics display is not the same feature.

There is no control in the described Apple Music steps that forces timing onto unsynchronized lyrics. If the full lyrics are present but do not track the music, that may be the extent of what is available for the song. The same track-specific limitation is why one song can show synced lines while another may show only full lyrics or nothing.

Shazam identifies a song but does not show synced lines

Open Lyrics just after identifying the song. Shazam limits its synced-lyrics view to a newly identified song, and some tracks do not have lyrics available. For an older Shazam, open the saved song and check its Lyrics option; a result is not guaranteed. A successful identification confirms that Shazam recognized a song, not that synced lyrics are available for it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the Lyrics option is unavailable after identification, consider both timing and track availability before trying repeatedly. The app’s stated limitation is not that every Shazam result should have a lyrics button, but that the feature applies to a newly identified song when lyrics are available. For songs saved earlier, the guide’s instructions allow you to open the saved result and check Lyrics, while its synced-lyrics limitation still applies.

Translation or pronunciation is missing

Apple offers translation or pronunciation only when supported for the song and a language matching the device’s preferred languages. These are optional lyric features, not settings that force every song to display a translation. A song can have lyrics while having no translation or pronunciation option for the language setup in use.

The lyrics are wrong or incomplete

Apple provides a way to report missing or incorrect lyrics from the lyrics view on mobile. On Mac or PC, Apple directs users to its Apple Music feedback page. Use the relevant path for your device rather than assuming that playback settings can correct the displayed words; Apple describes the reporting routes in its mobile and desktop instructions.

Reporting is the appropriate next step when the issue is the words themselves, rather than whether the feature is available or synced. If no lyrics are shown, first check track availability and, where relevant, catalog source or connection. If lyrics appear but are incorrect or incomplete, use Apple’s reporting route instead of treating the issue as a sync setting.

Is Apple Music Sing the same as the Lyrics view?

No. The basic Lyrics control displays a song’s lyrics, while Apple documents Apple Music Sing separately as a sing-along feature. The standard Lyrics steps in this guide are about showing the words and, when available, following their timing. Apple Music Sing is an optional related feature with separate instructions and availability.

Do not assume that using the basic Lyrics view turns on Sing or that the Sing instructions replace the ordinary way to open lyrics. If you want to read or follow the words, use Lyrics from Now Playing on iPhone or iPad, or the Lyrics button on a Mac or PC. If you want details about the sing-along feature, consult Apple’s Apple Music Sing guide for iPhone.

What is the quickest way to choose?

If the song is already playing from the Apple Music catalog, open Apple Music’s lyrics view: Now Playing and Lyrics on iPhone or iPad, or the Lyrics button at the top on Mac or PC. If you hear an unfamiliar song, identify it in Shazam and tap Lyrics right afterward. In both cases, the track must have the relevant lyrics, and time-synced lines are not guaranteed.

Keep the difference between these results in mind: a synced lyric display follows the song; a full lyric display shows words without line-by-line timing; and no lyric display means the track or current app situation does not offer lyrics. Offline viewing on iPhone is possible for a downloaded Apple Music song, sharing is limited to up to 150 characters when synced lyrics are available, and translation or pronunciation depends on availability for the song and preferred language. Those limits explain most differences in what you see from one track, device, or app to another.

How do I see lyrics in Shazam?

Identify the song in Shazam, then tap Lyrics to follow synced lines when available. Shazam says its time-synced lyric view is available only with a newly identified song and is not offered for every track.

Can Apple Music lyrics appear on a lock screen?

Apple’s instructions covered here describe opening lyrics from the Now Playing screen, rather than a separate lock-screen lyrics setting. To read the words, open the song in Apple Music and use its Lyrics view.

Can Shazam identify a song from audio playing on my own device?

Apple’s Shazam lyrics guide covers identifying a song and opening its lyric view, but does not establish which device-audio capture methods work on each operating system. The available identification route can depend on the device and how the audio is playing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does every song in Apple Music have official lyrics?

No. Apple’s support guidance explicitly allows for lyrics to be unavailable for a track, and synced lyrics may be unavailable even when full lyrics appear. Availability is track-dependent.

Can I view Apple Music lyrics without an internet connection?

On iPhone, Apple says lyrics can be viewed offline for a downloaded song. An undownloaded song may not show lyrics while offline, and downloading does not guarantee that a track has lyrics.

Why do Apple Music lyrics show up but not move with the song?

Apple Music may show full lyrics when time-synced lyrics are unavailable. A static lyrics view does not mean line-by-line timing is available for that track.

Can I share a full song’s lyrics from Apple Music?

Apple says up to 150 characters can be shared on iPhone when time-synced lyrics are available. Use Share Lyrics or touch and hold a line; the feature does not share unlimited lyrics.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is translation or pronunciation missing in Apple Music?

Translation and pronunciation vary by song and language, and Apple ties them to the device’s preferred languages. The options are not available for every track.

What should I do if Apple Music lyrics are wrong or incomplete?

Apple provides a reporting route from the lyrics view on mobile. On Mac or PC, Apple directs users to its Apple Music feedback page.

Is Apple Music Sing required to see lyrics?

No. The standard Lyrics control displays lyrics, while Apple Music Sing is a separately documented sing-along feature with its own availability and instructions.

The Bottom Line

For a song already playing in Apple Music, open Lyrics from Now Playing on iPhone or iPad, or select the Lyrics button on Mac or PC. For an unfamiliar song, identify it in Shazam and tap Lyrics immediately. Synced lyrics, full lyrics, translation, pronunciation, and offline access all depend on track and feature availability; if Apple Music lyrics are incorrect, use Apple’s reporting path for your device.
