Start by confirming which METRO Redux game and update you are running, then isolate the symptom and change one rendering option at a time. Deep Silver’s official PC patch notes confirm NVIDIA DLSS support, but do not call it “DLSS 5”; a third-party report dated October 23, 2026, says it observed DLSS Neural Rendering in both Redux games while noting that the feature was absent from the release notes. Treat that as a reported observation, not a publisher-confirmed feature or a universal fix.
Is DLSS 5 officially supported in METRO Redux?
Deep Silver’s PC patch notes list support for 4A TSR, NVIDIA DLSS, and AMD FSR, but they do not identify a feature called DLSS 5. A third-party report published October 23, 2026, says it observed DLSS Neural Rendering in METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux; the report also says the feature was not mentioned in the release notes. That is evidence of a reported observation, not official confirmation that every player has the feature or that it is responsible for a particular visual problem.
NVIDIA announced DLSS 5 on March 16, 2026, describing a real-time neural-rendering model that uses frame color and motion vectors, with developer controls for intensity, color grading, and masking. Its announcement did not name METRO Redux. The announcement alone therefore cannot establish that the feature is supported in a later game update.

This distinction is useful when comparing player reports. One person may mean DLSS Super Resolution when saying “DLSS,” while another may mean Frame Generation or a driver-level motion feature. Those are not the same rendering operation, and a reported setting in one Redux game or build does not prove that the other game exposes it. Record the exact label you can see rather than relying on shorthand, a guide for a different game, or the feature name in the article headline.
What should I identify before changing settings?
Write down the details below before testing. They help distinguish an outdated build, a game-specific rendering issue, and a frame-pacing problem, and make a useful support report if the issue remains.
- Game: METRO 2033 Redux or METRO Last Light Redux.
- Platform and store: for example, PC through Steam, Epic, or GOG, or Windows Store. The troubleshooting below is centered on PC DLSS support.
- Game update/build: check the version shown by the game or store client and whether the current update has installed.
- Hardware and software: GPU model, driver version, display resolution, and refresh rate.
- Exact symptom: stutter, a moving-edge trail, flicker, shimmer, a halo, or a lighting/post-processing problem. Record where it occurs and whether it happens consistently.
- Active rendering features: note which DLSS options, Smooth Motion, and any other frame-generation option are enabled. Use the labels exposed by your particular game and driver.
These distinctions matter because Deep Silver’s update timing differs by platform, and NVIDIA says the available DLSS libraries and options vary with the game and its update. A setting name or remedy that applies to one build may not exist in another.

For example, note whether a trail appears only while panning past a bright edge, whether a shadow flickers while standing still, or whether motion breaks up during ordinary movement. Also note whether the same scene behaves differently after changing one setting. The point is not to diagnose the graphics pipeline from appearance alone; it is to give yourself and support staff a repeatable comparison.
How do I check whether the METRO Redux update is installed?
First compare your installed game with the relevant store’s current update. Deep Silver’s official FAQ gives different release dates for the PC update: October 22, 2026, for Steam, Epic, and GOG, and October 29, 2026, for Windows Store and consoles. An owner using a different platform or a potentially incompatible older version should not assume the update arrived on the same date or installed successfully.
- Open the store or platform client where you own the game and check the game’s update status. Let any pending update finish before testing.
- Launch the game and note the displayed version or build if one is available. If the store says the game is current but the version is unclear, include that uncertainty in a support request rather than guessing.
- Repeat the test in the same location and with the same settings after the update. A changed result can help show whether a documented patch fix addressed the issue.
The FAQ says the upgrade is free for most existing owners, while warning that some versions may be incompatible. That qualification matters: ownership alone does not prove that a particular edition has received or can use the updated build.
The dates are not interchangeable: October 22 applies to the listed PC storefronts Steam, Epic, and GOG; the FAQ gives October 29 for Windows Store and consoles. If you play through the Windows Store, do not use the Steam rollout date to conclude that your installation is overdue. Conversely, seeing that an update was announced for PC does not confirm that a specific console or store edition is running it. Check the store tied to your copy.
The notes describe PC support for 4A TSR, NVIDIA DLSS, and AMD FSR, along with an unbound frame rate depending on hardware. Those entries establish that multiple rendering options exist in the PC update; they do not specify a universal setting, performance target, or required configuration for every system. If an option from a PC guide is missing in your version, that alone is not evidence that installation failed.
Which METRO Redux problems did the patch notes say were fixed?
Deep Silver’s PC patch notes document fixes that overlap with several complaints players may describe as visual artifacts. These are patch claims, not a guarantee that every player’s issue is resolved.

- High-frame-rate bugs, alongside broader changes such as higher geometry and texture detail, 4K textures, improved physically based rendering materials, unbound frame rate depending on hardware, and spatial audio.
If your symptom resembles one of those documented cases, confirming the patch is installed is a more grounded first check than assuming a new feature caused it. If it persists on the current build, record the exact scene and settings; the notes do not establish that the patch fixes every occurrence, GPU, resolution, or configuration.
The examples can help you describe a reproducible issue precisely. A white outline in a backlit corridor is more actionable than “bad graphics”; a shadow that flashes in a particular scene is easier to compare against the documented shadow fix than a general complaint about flicker. Likewise, a fine texture that crawls while the camera moves is not necessarily the same issue as a pixelated bloom effect or missing volumetric light. Similar-looking artifacts can have different triggers, so avoid treating the patch list as a promise that one toggle resolves them all.
The update also lists higher geometry and texture detail, 4K textures, and improved physically based rendering materials. Those are descriptions of changes in the PC patch, not troubleshooting instructions or proof that any one setting should be raised or lowered to eliminate an artifact. The notes mention high-frame-rate bug fixes and an unbound frame rate depending on hardware, but give no per-system cap or target. If a problem coincides with high frame rates, record the observed circumstances rather than inventing a recommended limit.
How can I tell stutter from ghosting, shimmer, or a lighting artifact?
Describe what the image does, not just that it “looks wrong.” Different symptoms point to different tests, and several can occur together.
Stuttering or uneven motion
Stutter appears as irregular pauses or jumps during movement, even when the image is otherwise sharp. Note whether it happens continuously, only during a particular sequence, or after changing a rendering option. A short clip can help distinguish intermittent motion from a single hitch.
Also note whether the event is a repeated interruption or one isolated hitch, and whether it occurs in a specific scene. The official notes mention high-frame-rate bug fixes, but do not say every stutter is a high-frame-rate bug. Do not infer a cause from the word “stutter” alone; preserve your resolution, refresh rate, and active rendering settings in the test log so another person can reproduce the conditions.
Ghosting or trails on moving objects
Ghosting is a visible trail, smear, or lingering outline behind an object as it moves. Record which object or edge shows the trail and whether it changes when you disable one reconstruction or frame-generation feature. Do not label every soft moving edge “DLSS 5 ghosting” without first checking which feature is actually active.
A still screenshot may show a soft edge but cannot show how it follows motion. Capture a short clip with the object or camera movement that makes the trail visible, then repeat the same movement after changing only one relevant setting. If the trail looks unchanged, record that result too; it is useful evidence that the tested option did not isolate the symptom on that setup.
Flicker, shimmer, halos, or lighting changes
Flicker is a repeated brightness or shadow change; shimmer is a crawling or unstable fine texture; a halo is a bright outline near a contrasting edge. Missing or broken lighting and post-processing can look different again. The patch notes specifically mention examples involving shadows, textures, SSAO, bloom, volumetric lighting, and halos, so note the surface, light source, or scene where the effect appears.

For a still-image artifact, a screenshot can preserve the affected frame and show its location. For flicker, note whether the change repeats while the camera stays still or only appears during movement. For shimmer, identify the texture or fine detail that crawls. For a halo, describe the contrasting edge and whether it occurs in one of the documented examples or elsewhere. These descriptions do not establish a root cause, but they prevent unlike symptoms from being grouped together.
How do I test DLSS settings without making diagnosis harder?
Use a repeatable scene and change one option per comparison. That will not identify every technical cause, but it can show whether a particular setting changes the symptom on your build.
- Choose a repeatable test. Use the same game, scene, viewpoint, movement, resolution, and display refresh setting each time. If the artifact appears only in a particular location, use that location rather than a different benchmark scene.
- Record the starting configuration. Note the DLSS options shown in the game, any driver-level Smooth Motion or frame-generation setting, and whether native DLSS Frame Generation is active. Do not combine distinct features under the single label “DLSS.”
- Change one feature. Disable or adjust only one relevant option, then repeat the same movement or view. If you change several options at once, an improvement will not tell you which change mattered.
- Compare the result. Check both image quality and motion. A setting may reduce a trail but affect smoothness, or leave the symptom unchanged. Restore the original state before testing another option if you want a clean comparison.
- Keep a short log. Write down the option changed and the result—better, worse, or unchanged—alongside the location and symptom. This gives support staff actionable information instead of a general report that the game is broken.
NVIDIA defines these features differently: Super Resolution reconstructs higher-resolution frames from a lower-resolution render; Frame Generation generates additional frames; Ray Reconstruction replaces traditional denoising for ray-traced lighting; and DLAA provides anti-aliasing at native resolution. They are not interchangeable controls, and the game may not offer all of them.
Use those definitions to make a controlled test, not to assume that every feature is available in Redux. If you see a Super Resolution setting, that concerns reconstruction from a lower-resolution render; it is not the same thing as generating extra frames. If you see Frame Generation, record that exact option separately. Ray Reconstruction is described by NVIDIA as replacing traditional denoising for ray-traced lighting, while DLAA is anti-aliasing at native resolution. The available options depend on the title and update, so a feature missing from a menu is not a setting you can troubleshoot by toggling elsewhere without confirming it is actually active.
Do not change multiple image-quality controls and driver options in one pass. For example, if you switch a game rendering option and a driver-level motion option together, any change in the result is ambiguous. Return to the recorded starting state between tests where practical, or clearly record the new baseline. The workflow is a diagnostic method, not an official Deep Silver or NVIDIA recipe for every artifact.

Could Smooth Motion and DLSS Frame Generation cause artifacts?
They could be relevant if both are active: NVIDIA says native DLSS Frame Generation and Smooth Motion are competing technologies and should not be used together. NVIDIA warns that combining them results in lower performance and visual artifacts.
If your configuration has both enabled, disable one for an isolated comparison, then repeat the same scene. This is a diagnostic check, not proof that the combination caused your problem. If one or both options are absent from your game or driver, do not assume they are active; NVIDIA notes that feature availability varies by title and update.
This warning is specifically about native DLSS Frame Generation and Smooth Motion being used together. It is not a blanket statement that DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA, every driver feature, or every form of frame generation causes ghosting. Check the controls you actually have enabled and test the documented combination only when it matches your configuration. If disabling one option changes performance or image appearance, report which one you changed and how the symptom responded rather than concluding that the other feature is universally at fault.

If you are uncertain whether the issue is tied to the game build, state the store and update status instead of guessing. If the title does not show a version number, say so. The reported Neural Rendering observation is not a substitute for verifying the installed build or settings, and the official patch notes do not offer a universal fix for every visual complaint. A precise report helps distinguish a title-specific issue from an option that is simply unavailable in that game or version.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to reinstall METRO Redux to get the patch?
The official update information establishes release timing and compatibility caveats, but does not prescribe reinstalling as a requirement. Check the owning store client’s update status first; use its support guidance if it reports the game is current but the expected build is not present.
Will a screenshot prove that DLSS caused the problem?
No. A screenshot can document a visible frame, but it cannot establish which rendering feature produced it or capture many timing-related symptoms. A short clip plus the active settings and system details gives support a more useful starting point.

Can I use the same fix for METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux?
Do not assume an option or result transfers between the two games. The third-party Neural Rendering report names both titles, but NVIDIA says DLSS options and libraries can vary by game and update; test each installed game independently.
When did the Redux PC update arrive on each store?
Deep Silver’s official FAQ lists October 22, 2026, for Steam, Epic, and GOG, and October 29, 2026, for Windows Store and consoles. Check your own store client because rollout timing and compatibility differ by platform.
Is the Redux upgrade free for existing owners?
The official FAQ says the upgrade is free for most existing owners, but warns that some versions may be incompatible. Confirm the edition and update status through the store where you own the game rather than assuming every copy receives the same build.
Does the patch guarantee that flicker, shimmer, or halos are fixed?
No. Deep Silver’s notes document fixes for flickering shadows, shimmering textures, unstable SSAO, post-processing issues, pixelated bloom, broken shadows, missing volumetric lighting, and white halo examples. They do not guarantee that every occurrence on every GPU, resolution, or configuration is resolved.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat if I do not see a DLSS 5 or Neural Rendering option?
Do not assume it is available in your game or build. Deep Silver’s patch notes confirm DLSS support but do not name DLSS 5, and the third-party report describing Neural Rendering says it was omitted from the release notes. NVIDIA also says options vary by game and update.
Should I enable Smooth Motion and DLSS Frame Generation together?
No. NVIDIA’s DLSS / Smooth Motion / Reflex driver guide says native DLSS Frame Generation and Smooth Motion are competing technologies and should not be used together, warning that the combination can lower performance and create visual artifacts. If both are active, test with one disabled at a time.
The Bottom Line
Confirm the correct Redux game and current store build first, then describe the exact symptom and test one rendering feature at a time in the same scene. Deep Silver’s notes document fixes for several flicker, shimmer, shadow, and post-processing problems, but do not guarantee every case is resolved. DLSS 5 is not named in those notes; the Neural Rendering claim is a third-party observation. If native DLSS Frame Generation and Smooth Motion are both active, NVIDIA advises against using them together. Keep a clip, settings list, and system details if the issue persists.
