Start by checking your PC against the game’s requirements, then lower graphics settings and test the same area after each change. The available troubleshooting instructions are for the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds, not a verified Ascendance release build. Ascendance-specific requirements and performance are not established here, so use these steps as base-game PC guidance and check the expansion’s official requirements and patch notes when available.
What to check before changing settings
Confirm that your PC meets the published Steam system requirements. The listing calls for 16 GB of system RAM, DirectX 12, 75 GB of free storage and an SSD. Its minimum GPU examples are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB of VRAM or an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB; recommended examples are an RTX 2060 Super with 8 GB or a Radeon RX 6600 with 8 GB.
These are listed configurations and targets, not guaranteed results on every machine. Steam describes its minimum 1080p/30 FPS target as using upscaling from 720p at Lowest settings. Its recommended 1080p/60 FPS target assumes Medium settings with Frame Generation enabled. If your PC meets minimum requirements but not the recommended examples, try lower settings before considering hardware changes.
Check that the game is already installed on a suitable SSD before considering a storage upgrade. If it is not, first verify that your PC supports the drive’s interface and form factor. An SSD is a stated requirement, but changing storage alone is not a guaranteed fix for stuttering.

Work through these checks in order, changing one thing at a time. Compare the same location or activity after each adjustment and keep a note of the original setting. That makes it easier to identify what helped without assuming any setting is universally best.
Lower graphics settings
Capcom recommends setting Graphics Settings to Low or Medium when graphics settings are causing an unstable frame rate or launch problems. Start by reducing demanding settings, then compare performance in the same situation. If the stutter improves, adjust settings individually to find a workable balance between image quality and smoothness.

Update Windows and graphics drivers
Outdated graphics drivers can cause freezing and other problems, according to Capcom’s troubleshooting and issue-reporting thread. Install updates appropriate for your graphics card from its manufacturer, check Windows for updates, and reboot. Capcom also recommends rebooting after a clean graphics-driver installation. Avoid installing a driver version just because it is newer; check the guidance and known issues for your specific card.
Verify the game files in Steam
- In your Steam Library, right-click Monster Hunter Wilds and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and let Steam finish checking.
Capcom says this process can replace missing or corrupted downloads. Some local configuration files may fail validation normally, so a validation message does not necessarily mean the check failed.

Close overlays and resource-heavy applications
For one comparison run, close recording software, performance overlays and other resource-intensive applications. Capcom notes these can compromise performance or stability. If the game runs better, reopen applications one at a time to identify whether one of them is contributing to the problem.
Match the fix to when the stutter happens
Stuttering began after a crash, update or file problem
After verifying files, Capcom suggests deleting the game’s shader.cache and shader.cache2 files from the installation directory if they are present. Do not treat cache deletion as a routine first step. Rebuilding shader caches can involve temporary compilation work, so allow the game time to settle after the next launch before judging the result.

The problem occurs on a laptop
If your laptop has both integrated and discrete graphics, check that Windows or your graphics software assigns the game to the high-performance GPU. Menu names vary by Windows version and hardware. Connect the charger and check the laptop’s power settings as well; running on battery or a power-saving profile may limit performance.
Performance gets worse as the session continues
Heat can make operation unstable. Check temperatures and cooling with tools approved by your PC or component manufacturer, and make sure the system has adequate ventilation. Capcom also suggests lowering graphics settings or limiting the frame rate to reduce heat. The available guidance does not establish a universal temperature threshold, so use the limits specified for your hardware.

The High Resolution Texture Pack is installed
Capcom states that the optional High Resolution Texture Pack requires at least 16 GB of graphics memory and warns that insufficient VRAM may cause instability regardless of the Texture Quality setting. If the issue began after installing it and your GPU has less than 16 GB of VRAM, disable the pack in Steam: right-click the game in your Library, choose Properties, open DLC, and deselect the pack. Restart Steam afterward.

Report the issue through Capcom’s official support route linked from its Steam troubleshooting thread. A reproducible report is more useful than a general description of poor framerate. Include the information Capcom requests:
- CPU, GPU and VRAM, system RAM, operating system and graphics-driver version
- Security software and display details
- Your region, the location or mode where the problem occurs, and when it happens
- Steps that reproduce the issue

The available Ascendance coverage does not establish final PC requirements or confirm performance in a released expansion build. In an interview published September 22, 2026, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said Capcom was applying lessons from Wilds’ launch and that evaluating PC performance across varied hardware takes time and research. That development comment is not a performance guarantee or a substitute for Ascendance-specific requirements and patch notes.
