First test whether the problem affects one page or PDF, all printing from Edge, or printing across Windows. Try another page in Edge using the same printer and settings, then try printing from another Windows app. Those results point to whether to focus on the document, Edge, or the printer and Windows.
Find out where the printing problem is
Use the same printer for each test when possible. This makes it easier to tell whether the failure follows a particular page, Edge, or the printer and Windows. Microsoft identifies the possible sources as the document or website, Edge, the printer driver, Windows, and the printer connection or hardware.
| What happens | Likely scope | What to try next |
|---|---|---|
| Other Edge pages print, but one page or PDF does not | The page or document | Retry the original. If it is a webpage and Immersive Reader is available, print its simplified version. |
| Edge shows “Print preview failed” or does not show the expected printer | Edge preview, printer selection, or availability | Cancel and retry, select the printer again, or restart Edge. |
| Other Windows apps also cannot print | Windows, printer, connection, driver, or hardware | Run the Windows 11 printer troubleshooter in Get Help, then check the printer and driver. |
| Other apps print, but Edge does not | Edge or an interaction with the printer driver | Retry Edge’s print flow and check for a current printer driver. |
Test another page and another Windows app
-
In Edge, open another webpage or online document. Press Ctrl+P, or select Settings and more > Print. Choose the same printer and relevant settings as for the page that failed, then try printing.
-
If the test page prints, retry the original page or PDF. For a webpage, use Immersive Reader if it is offered; it is not available on every site. If the simplified page prints, the original page’s content or styling may be interfering with printing.

Try printing from Word or another Windows application. If available, print a Windows test page too. If other apps or the test page fail, investigate Windows, the printer, its connection, or its driver instead of repeatedly changing Edge options.
Microsoft’s Edge print troubleshooting guidance recommends testing another document and another application to narrow down the cause. Its instructions for printing in Edge give the browser’s print path.

Fix an Edge print-preview error
If Edge reports “Print preview failed,” cancel the print attempt and try again. Reselect the printer, or choose another available printer as a test. If the preview still fails, close and reopen Edge, then retry.
Microsoft notes that Edge cannot display print preview if its built-in PDF viewer is missing. That note is relevant when PDF preview is involved, but Microsoft’s guidance does not provide a separate PDF-viewer reinstall procedure. Avoid following unofficial steps that claim to reinstall it without confirming they apply to your Edge version.

Check the printer and driver when Windows apps also fail
-
On Windows 11, open the Get Help app and run the printer troubleshooter. Follow any suggested steps and test printing again.
-
Check that the printer is powered on, connected to the PC or network, installed in Windows, and available. If it is wireless, check its network connection; if it is wired, check the connection and port.

Microsoft’s Windows printer connection and printing guidance covers the troubleshooter and printer checks. Its printer driver instructions explain how to get current drivers. On some ARM PCs, manufacturer driver installers may not work; Microsoft advises using Windows’ Add device flow unless the manufacturer provides specific ARM instructions.

If other apps print successfully, repeat the Edge test with another page and confirm that the intended printer is selected and available. Check the printer driver as well: Microsoft notes that a driver can affect Edge differently even when printing from other applications works. If one page alone fails, concentrate on that page or PDF rather than treating the symptom as a Windows-wide printer fault.
For app-specific checks beyond Edge, see Microsoft’s guidance for printing problems in Word, Excel, and other apps. The tests here identify the likely layer, but a single symptom such as nothing happening does not by itself establish whether the cause is Edge, a driver, Windows, or printer hardware.
