Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFirst identify what blocked the item: the Malwarebytes desktop app, Browser Guard, or Windows Firewall Control. Their allow lists and remedies are separate. If you recognize the website or file and are confident it is safe, add only the narrow exception needed; if you are unsure, do not bypass the warning—report the suspected false positive instead.
Identify which Malwarebytes component blocked it
Check where the warning appeared before changing settings. The desktop app’s Detection History and Browser Guard’s website controls are distinct. A local file in quarantine requires a different remedy from a website blocked inside a browser.
- Malwarebytes desktop app: The alert appeared in Device Protection & Antivirus on Windows or macOS, or a local file or application is listed in Detection History.
- Browser Guard: A warning or blocked page appeared in a browser where the Browser Guard extension is installed. Its site-specific controls do not use the desktop app’s Allow list.
- Possible firewall issue: Connections to multiple sites or services are failing, not just one website or app.
Malwarebytes’ current Allow list instructions apply to its Windows and macOS desktop app. Do not assume the same steps apply to mobile versions; mobile-specific steps are not established here.
Allow a trusted website or app in the desktop app
Use the desktop app’s Allow list when Device Protection & Antivirus is blocking a website, file, folder, or application. Malwarebytes advises adding an item only if you are confident it is harmless.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open Malwarebytes and select Detection History.
- Open the Allow list tab.
- Choose Allow on macOS or Add item on Windows.
- Select the type of item to allow. For a website, enter its URL, domain, or IP address. For a local item, select the file, folder, or application.
- On Windows, review and confirm the security-risk prompt. Confirm the item is saved to the Allow list.
Keep the exception as specific as possible. Allowing one trusted domain or file is narrower than weakening protection more broadly. To remove an exception later, return to the Allow list and remove that item; Malwarebytes can then detect it again.
Change Browser Guard’s setting for a trusted site
Browser Guard has its own site controls and blocked-items view. In Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, open Browser Guard’s view for the current site to see protection settings and blocked items. The documented controls include Ads/Tracker, Malware, and Scam. If a specific item on a site is blocked, use the blocked-items view to allow that item for that site rather than turning off broader protections.

In Safari, the site’s Website toggle adds the current website to Browser Guard’s Allow list. The overall protection toggle affects all websites, so do not use it to solve a problem limited to one trusted site.
If Browser Guard shows a block page
The page identifies the reason for the block and the address that triggered it. Reasons can include content control, fraud, malware, phishing, ransomware, reputation, riskware, suspicious downloads, suspicious TLDs, or trojans. If you do not trust the site, go back. If you do trust it and choose to proceed, Malwarebytes documents this bypass: “If you trust the website and want to go there anyway, click Continue to this website to bypass the block.” Malwarebytes Help Center: Types of block pages caused by Browser Guard.

A bypass lets you visit; it does not verify that the site is safe. Use it only for a site you already recognize and trust.
Restore an app or file that was quarantined
If Malwarebytes moved a local item to quarantine, restore it only if you recognize it and trust it. Do not restore an unknown file just to see whether an app works.

- Open Malwarebytes and go to Detection History.
- Select Quarantined items.
- Select the trusted item and click Restore.
- If you also want to exclude it from future detections, choose Exclude this from future detections on Windows or Restore and allow on macOS.
Restoring returns the item from quarantine. The additional exclusion option also tells Malwarebytes not to detect it in the future.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Report a suspected false positive instead of bypassing it
A false positive is a safe site, file, or application that Malwarebytes suspects or identifies as a threat and blocks or detects. If you cannot confidently establish that the item is safe, leave the protection in place and report the detection to Malwarebytes Support or post in the Malwarebytes Forum for researcher review. Forum staff may request more information. Reporting does not guarantee a particular outcome or response time.

Check Windows Firewall Control if many connections fail
If a range of websites or services is unreachable, do not create a string of site exceptions. On Windows 10 and 11, Malwarebytes’ Windows Firewall Control manages the built-in Windows Defender Firewall and its filtering level may explain broader connection failures.
| Filtering level | Documented behavior |
|---|---|
| High | Blocks all internet access. |
| Medium | Blocks outbound connections unless an allow rule matches. |
| Low | Blocks inbound connections while allowing outbound connections unless a block rule matches. Malwarebytes identifies Low as the device’s default and recommends keeping it. |
| No filtering | Malwarebytes advises against using this for everyday use. |
Check the filtering level and rules rather than routinely disabling the firewall. The relevant symptom is a broad loss of connectivity, not one isolated site warning.
Consider antivirus conflicts only when the symptoms fit
Malwarebytes says another antivirus running alongside its app can cause conflicts that affect Real-Time Protection or device speed. If you see those symptoms, consult Malwarebytes’ instructions for adding specific Malwarebytes paths to the other antivirus’s allow list: Add Malwarebytes to the allow list of your antivirus software. This is a targeted conflict check, not a reason to exempt every website or app.
