Choose another server location
- Disconnect hide.me.
- Open the location list.
- Select a different location from the one that failed.
- Reconnect and wait for the status to change before testing an app.
A new location can bypass a temporarily unreachable server or a bad route. Server reachability and streaming access can change with network conditions, region, and app releases, so a location that worked previously is not guaranteed to work every time.
Test all six Android protocols
With the VPN disconnected, open the protocol setting and test one option at a time. The Android app’s documented choices are:

- If one protocol connects and another does not, the failure is probably related to protocol filtering, routing, or compatibility on the current network rather than the Android TV hardware itself.

Test the recommended DNS values
- Keep the underlying TV connection working and connect hide.me.
- Open the DNS controls available in the hide.me app or in the TV’s network configuration. Menu names vary by Android TV release.
- Enter
1.1.1.1as the primary diagnostic DNS value and1.0.0.1as the secondary value. - Save the setting, disconnect and reconnect hide.me, then test more than one website or app.

How do I reinstall hide.me on Android TV when the app is broken?

Install or reinstall through Google Play

Use only the APK address provided by hide.me’s own manual-install instructions. A random APK mirror can provide a modified or outdated package and makes the connection problem harder to diagnose.

Sideload from a USB drive with File Commander
- On a computer or another trusted device, obtain the Android TV APK from hide.me’s official manual-install instructions.
- Copy the APK to a USB flash drive.
- Connect the drive to the Android TV and open it with File Commander.
- Select the APK and grant File Commander permission to install unknown apps when Android TV requests it.
- Complete installation, remove the USB drive, and open hide.me.
This route requires a compatible USB drive and file-manager access; Downloader can avoid buying or using extra hardware. If the TV cannot read the drive, return to the Downloader route rather than repeatedly opening the same file.

Streaming-optimized locations

Escalate after ordinary internet access works, multiple locations have been tested, and the available protocols or DNS test do not resolve the fault.
