Most AI-video flicker, melting faces, and jerky motion are preventable. Start with a clean, sharp source frame; generate a short shot containing one clear action; describe subject, environment, camera, timing, direction, and speed without contradictory instructions; and carry identity forward with reference frames or a character LoRA. If the clip already exists, use restrained denoising, stabilization, deblur, face recovery, inpainting, or anti-flicker processing, but regenerate sections where the model changed anatomy or identity.

The sequence matters. Post-processing can smooth temporal noise and recover some detail, yet it cannot reliably reconstruct a face that was never drawn correctly. The workflow below separates generation problems from repair problems so you know when to adjust a prompt, when to regenerate only a short segment, and when an enhancement pass is safe.

Why do AI-generated videos flicker, warp faces, or lose motion consistency?

Each frame is synthesized from visual cues and motion predictions rather than recorded from a continuous camera. Small changes in those predictions can alter brightness, texture, facial anatomy, clothing, or the apparent position of an object. The risk rises when the input image is blurry, the prompt asks for several actions at once, the shot is long, or a post-production tool must invent frames across a large visual change.

Runway describes the input image as the first frame and warns that blur or malformed hands and faces can be intensified during image-to-video conversion. Its guidance also separates subject motion, environmental motion, and camera motion instead of asking for a general transformation. NVIDIA’s LTX-2.3 recommendations similarly favor one clear motion, clips of up to five seconds, a CFG range of 3.0–3.5, and a subject LoRA for recurring characters. Topaz documents a separate failure mode: interpolation estimates motion between frames, so drastic differences can create strobing, distortion, or wobble.

Generation defects versus post-production defects

  • Generation defects: a face changes shape, eyes or teeth move, clothing switches, or the camera and background bend because the model could not maintain identity or spatial relationships.
  • Temporal defects: brightness, texture, or fine detail pulses from frame to frame even though the subject remains recognizable.
  • Interpolation defects: a repair tool creates invented frames that shimmer, double, or wobble when neighboring frames have little reliable correspondence.

Use a generation fix for identity, anatomy, and major geometry failures. Reserve temporal filters and enhancement for manageable changes that are already present in the source footage.

How do I fix an AI video before generating it?

Prepare the image and the shot design first. A clean reference and a deliberately narrow action give the model stable cues to follow.

1. Replace a weak source frame

Choose a high-quality image with a sharp face, readable hands, and an unambiguous pose. Remove heavy motion blur, compression damage, malformed fingers, duplicate limbs, and contradictory visual cues before animation. Runway’s image-to-video guidance says artifacts in the input may be intensified, so asking the model to repair a damaged face while animating it compounds the problem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Use a face angle and expression that match the intended movement.
  • Keep important hands and clothing visible if they must move.
  • Remove dust, streaks, or blur that imply motion opposite to the requested action.
  • Check that lighting and shadows are coherent; unstable highlights often become brightness flicker.

If the image itself has identity drift across a set of references, fix that set before making a sequence. A model cannot preserve a character whose reference images disagree about facial structure or wardrobe.

2. Make one short scene with one principal action

Treat every generation as a single shot, not a miniature storyboard. A prompt such as “the woman walks forward while the man remains still” is easier to satisfy than a request that makes both people walk, exchange an object, turn toward camera, change clothes, and transition to a new location.

Break a complex idea into separate clips and edit them together. Runway’s Gen-4 prompting guidance calls for positive phrasing only; describe the desired state directly instead of stacking prohibitions such as “do not move the camera, do not change the face, do not add blur.” A positive instruction like “the locked camera remains still” gives the model a concrete condition.

3. Describe every motion component

State what moves, how it moves, where it moves, how fast it moves, and what the camera does. Include environmental movement only when it supports the shot. If actions occur in sequence, write the order explicitly or use timestamps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Subject: “The woman walks forward at a steady pace, arms relaxed.”
  • Environment: “Tree leaves sway gently from left to right.”
  • Camera: “The locked camera remains still,” or “The camera slowly tracks right.”
  • Timing: “At the start she looks ahead; halfway through she turns her head toward the window.”
  • Direction and speed: “The bicycle moves left to right at a slow, even speed.”

Match requested movement to cues already visible in the image. A planted foot, directional blur, or windblown coat can conflict with the prompt. Remove or replace those cues instead of hoping the model will resolve them.

4. Keep difficult shots within a short duration

NVIDIA’s LTX-2.3 guidance says a five-second clip, specified as 121 frames, significantly improves end-frame adherence and recommends one clear motion. Use shorter segments when the action is fast, the face is close to camera, or the scene contains reflections and fine patterns. A sequence of two- or three-second shots is often easier to keep coherent than one long generation containing several beats.

For LTX-2.3 workflows, start within the documented CFG range of 3.0–3.5 and change one variable at a time. A subject LoRA can reinforce a recurring character when the model supports it; it does not replace a clean reference image or a simple action.

5. Carry identity and continuity with references

When a character appears in multiple shots, use a subject LoRA or character reference supported by the generator. Preserve the last frame of a finished clip and use it as the next image input when extending a sequence; Runway specifically recommends this handoff. Adobe Premiere workflows can use first-frame, last-frame, and multiple reference frames for continuity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

References should agree on face shape, hair, clothing, and lighting. If you change all of those at once, the model receives no stable anchor and may interpret the shot as a new person.

What should an AI-video prompt contain?

A reliable prompt is a motion specification, not a catalog of objects already visible in the image. Runway’s wording is explicit: describe the motion of the scene rather than repeating image elements.

A practical prompt structure

  1. Subject and action: identify the principal subject and one physical action.
  2. Direction and speed: state left or right, toward or away, and slow, steady, or fast.
  3. Environmental motion: add only movement that supports the shot.
  4. Camera behavior: specify locked, pan, tilt, track, or push-in, with direction and speed.
  5. Timing: describe what happens first and what happens later.
  6. Continuity: state which character, wardrobe, or object remains unchanged.

Example: “The woman walks forward at a steady pace while the man remains still. Leaves sway gently from left to right. The locked camera remains still. Halfway through, the woman turns her head toward the man; her face, hairstyle, and blue jacket remain consistent.” This gives the model one subject action, one environmental action, a camera constraint, an ordered beat, and identity cues.

Prompt patterns that commonly fail

  • Several simultaneous actions involving multiple people.
  • Contradictory camera directions, such as a locked camera and a rapid orbit in the same shot.
  • Negative lists that describe what must not happen instead of the desired motion.
  • Requests for a transformation, location change, and wardrobe change in one continuous take.
  • Motion that contradicts visible pose or blur in the input frame.

When a prompt fails, simplify it before adding more adjectives. Changing the action, duration, and camera all at once makes it impossible to identify which instruction caused the instability.

How can I repair a clip that has already been generated?

You can often reduce flicker and mild softness without regenerating, but identity and anatomy failures usually require a new generation or a localized replacement. Work from a duplicate of the original clip and make one controlled change per pass.

1. Isolate the defective interval

Mark the first and last frame where the problem appears. If the face is stable for most of the shot and melts for one second, replace or regenerate that interval rather than processing the entire clip. Match the replacement’s first and last frames to the surrounding footage and use the same character reference.

2. Apply temporal cleanup conservatively

Adobe Premiere’s Anti-flicker Filter can reduce brightness or texture pulsing. Adobe notes that increasing strength removes more flicker but makes the image softer, so preview the result at normal playback speed and at 100 percent magnification. Stop when the pulse is no longer distracting; excessive strength can erase skin texture and fine edges.

3. Use enhancement tools for the defect they address

Topaz Video provides denoising, stabilization, motion deblur, frame interpolation, and face-recovery options. Apply only the tools that match the symptom:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Denoising: for random grain or unstable noise, not for a face that changes structure.
  • Stabilization: for unwanted camera shake, not for a background that was generated with warped geometry.
  • Motion deblur: for recoverable blur when the underlying edges remain present.
  • Face recovery: for mild loss of facial detail; it cannot guarantee the original person’s exact features.
  • Frame interpolation: for a manageable frame-rate increase when adjacent frames depict the same motion.

Render short test sections before processing the full clip. Compare eyes, teeth, fingers, hair, and high-contrast edges, since those areas reveal invented detail first.

4. Avoid interpolation when frames disagree too much

Topaz cautions that interpolation can produce strobing or wobble with drastic frame changes, reflective water, patterned motion, and extreme parallax. If the source already contains a face jump or a background bend, interpolation may create extra intermediate distortions. Cut around the unstable moment, regenerate it, or use a direct edit instead of forcing new frames between incompatible images.

What is the fastest fix for each visible symptom?

Use the first-fix column before trying stronger filters. The likely cause is a starting hypothesis; inspect a few consecutive frames to confirm it.

Symptom Likely cause First fixes
Brightness or texture flicker Inconsistent generation, unstable detail, or aggressive interpolation Shorten the shot, simplify motion, use consistent references, then try restrained temporal cleanup or Adobe’s Anti-flicker Filter.
Face melts; eyes or teeth change Low-quality input, close-up anatomy failure, or identity drift Replace the source frame, reduce motion complexity, use a character reference or LoRA, and apply face recovery or inpainting only for mild residual errors.
Subject changes identity or wardrobe Long clip, too many actions, or weak identity conditioning Generate shorter segments, perform one action at a time, and carry the last frame or character reference forward.
Camera or background warps Multiple camera moves, contradictory spatial cues, or excessive parallax Specify one camera move, use clear positional language, and cut or regenerate the unstable moment.
Motion looks floaty or jerky Direction or speed was not defined, or interpolation lacks reliable correspondences State direction and speed, simplify the action, and interpolate only footage with manageable frame-to-frame change.

How do I build a reliable repair workflow from start to finish?

Use this order so an aggressive enhancement pass does not hide a generation mistake.

  1. Inspect the source frame and the original prompt. Identify blur, malformed anatomy, contradictory cues, and the exact frame where instability begins.
  2. Decide whether the defect is structural or temporal. A changing identity or warped geometry calls for regeneration; a stable subject with pulsing texture may be repairable.
  3. Prepare a clean reference. Correct the face, hands, pose, and lighting before asking for motion.
  4. Rewrite the shot as one action. Use positive phrasing and define subject, environment, camera, timing, direction, and speed.
  5. Set a short duration. For LTX-2.3, use the five-second/121-frame recommendation and CFG 3.0–3.5; use even shorter clips for complex close-ups.
  6. Generate a replacement or continuation. Carry forward the last frame and apply a character reference or subject LoRA when available.
  7. Match the edit. Align the replacement’s first and last frames with the surrounding clip, then check the cut at normal playback speed.
  8. Apply restrained repair. Use anti-flicker, denoising, stabilization, deblur, or face recovery only where the corresponding symptom remains.
  9. Test interpolation last. Reject it if water, repeating patterns, reflections, parallax, or large frame changes produce wobble.
  10. Review at full resolution. Inspect eyes, teeth, fingers, hair, text, and high-contrast edges before exporting.

What mistakes should I avoid when troubleshooting?

  • Do not upscale a broken face first. Enlargement can make invented facial detail more obvious; fix the source or regenerate before enhancement.
  • Do not lengthen a failing shot. Extending an unstable clip usually carries the identity and geometry problem forward. Extract its last stable frame instead.
  • Do not stack every filter. Denoising, interpolation, sharpening, and face recovery can each invent detail. Add one process, render a short test, and compare.
  • Do not judge only a still frame. Flicker and floaty motion are temporal; evaluate several seconds of playback as well as frame-by-frame.
  • Do not hide a bad transition with interpolation. If the first and last images disagree in pose or identity, create a new segment or make a deliberate edit.
  • Do not use contradictory motion language. A locked camera cannot also orbit rapidly, and a subject cannot remain still while performing a large action.

How do I know when regeneration is the only realistic option?

Regenerate when the face changes person, the eyes or teeth are repeatedly malformed, clothing switches without instruction, or the camera and background bend in ways that cannot be masked by a cut. These are missing or incorrect structures, not merely noisy pixels. A new short shot with a clean frame and a narrower prompt is usually more predictable than trying to reconstruct anatomy with filters.

Repair is reasonable when the subject remains the same and the defect is limited to pulsing exposure, mild noise, recoverable blur, small shake, or a short section that can be replaced cleanly. Keep the original render so you can return to it if an enhancement pass softens detail or introduces a new wobble.

What quality checklist should I use before publishing?

  • The first frame is sharp and free of malformed faces, hands, and heavy motion blur.
  • Each shot has one principal action and one clearly defined camera behavior.
  • Direction, speed, timing, and environmental movement agree with visible cues.
  • Difficult shots are divided into short segments; LTX-2.3 shots follow the documented five-second, 121-frame guidance.
  • Recurring characters use consistent references or a subject LoRA where supported.
  • Replacement clips begin and end on matching poses and lighting.
  • Anti-flicker strength is high enough to suppress pulsing but not so high that skin and edge detail become soft.
  • Interpolation is avoided for drastic frame changes, reflective water, patterned motion, and extreme parallax.
  • Playback has been checked for brightness pulses, eye and teeth changes, wardrobe shifts, background warps, and floaty motion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I sharpen or upscale an AI clip before removing flicker?

Usually no. Sharpening can emphasize frame-to-frame noise and make unstable edges more conspicuous; first stabilize the temporal problem or replace the defective segment, then apply a light finishing pass.

Why does water or a patterned background shimmer after interpolation?

Reflections and repeating textures provide ambiguous correspondences between frames. Interpolation may estimate several plausible paths, producing strobing or wobble; cut or regenerate that portion instead of increasing interpolation strength.

How can I keep the same wardrobe across separate AI-video shots?

Use a consistent character reference or subject LoRA, keep the last frame of one shot as the next input, and avoid changing clothing, lighting, and camera angle simultaneously. Verify the reference images agree before generating the sequence.

What if only a fraction of a second is corrupted?

Mark the corrupted interval, generate a short replacement that matches its neighboring frames, and edit it into the timeline. Processing the entire clip can soften good frames and may spread a localized defect.
