If a controller, sound, or save state is misbehaving in Delta on iPhone, start by checking the setting or connection that controls that specific feature: connect controllers in iPhone Bluetooth settings before selecting them in Delta, check silent-mode and audio behavior for sound problems, and use an in-game save as your safest progress checkpoint. Delta’s system-specific control mapping, pause-menu save tools, and Sync settings provide the next steps when those first checks do not resolve the problem.
The key is to distinguish similar-looking symptoms before changing settings. A controller can be connected but mapped incorrectly; a silent game preview does not necessarily mean gameplay audio is broken; and a missing save state does not rule out an in-game save. Work through one issue at a time, retest the same game or action, and avoid deleting a state while you are still diagnosing it.
What should I check first when Delta has a problem?
Match the symptom to its likely cause before changing several settings at once. A controller that never appears in Delta points first to its iPhone connection; shifted buttons suggest a mapping issue; sound that fails only in a preview is different from sound that fails during gameplay; and an incompatible save-state message is not the same as a missing in-game save.

A useful order is to check the simplest, most specific cause first: confirm the iPhone connection for a controller, compare preview and gameplay audio for sound, and look for the game’s own save before treating a state as the only copy of progress. Then check Delta’s mapping, settings, Sync status, or installed version as appropriate. This avoids treating all problems as general app failures when the symptoms point to different parts of Delta.
Why is my controller not working in Delta?
Delta can select a controller only after iOS has connected it. After confirming that connection, choose the controller under Player 1 and check the controls for the console system you are playing.
Connect it in iPhone Bluetooth settings
- Open iPhone Settings > Bluetooth.
- Check the controller’s status. It needs to show as connected, not merely paired.
- If it is not connected, connect it through iOS Bluetooth settings.
- Once connected, reopen Delta so the app can detect it.
Delta’s Controllers guide states, “You must first connect your controller or keyboard in your device’s Bluetooth settings for it to appear in Delta.” Pairing is therefore not enough: the connection must be active when Delta looks for the input device.
This distinction helps narrow down the problem. Pairing records a controller as a device the iPhone knows about; Delta’s documented prerequisite is an active connection before it appears in the app. If the controller is listed in Bluetooth but Delta does not show it, check whether iOS says it is connected, then return to Delta after the connection is active. Repeating a control mapping before the device appears will not address a missing iOS connection.
Select the controller and check the system mapping
- In Delta, open Settings.
- Under Controllers, choose Player 1.
- Select the connected controller.
- Choose Customize Controls and review the mapping for the console system with the problem.
Delta lets you map controls by system, so a controller can work in one game or system while having missing or unexpected inputs in another. Check the affected system’s mapping rather than assuming the controller is dead or changing a different system’s configuration.
Test the specific button or direction that was failing after reviewing the mapping. If other controls work, the issue may be limited to that system’s assignments rather than the connection as a whole. If nothing responds, go back to the Bluetooth status and Player 1 selection before making more changes. Keeping the test focused makes it clearer whether the adjustment helped.
What if buttons are shifted or the analog stick behaves oddly?
Recheck or redo the affected system’s mapping, then update Delta if a newer build is available. Delta release notes record fixes for poor analog calibration, analog sticks used as discrete inputs, delayed inputs, and remapped menu buttons. Those documented fixes make an app bug a plausible cause when the connection is active but input remains inaccurate; they do not establish that every similar symptom has the same cause.
After changing the mapping or updating, test the controller again in the same system. If only one input is wrong, focus on that system’s controls; if all inputs fail, recheck the iPhone connection and Player 1 selection.
Consider the pattern as well as the individual button. A shifted button can suggest an assignment that does not match what you expect. Intermittent or imprecise analog movement can be a calibration or input-handling issue, while delayed response may resemble a connection problem. Delta’s release notes show that these classes of behavior have received fixes in some builds, so checking for an update is a reasonable step after confirming the connection and mapping. It is not a guarantee that an update will solve every controller fault.
Could the controller itself be unsupported?
Delta’s guide lists these controller families: Xbox Wireless Controller (Bluetooth Model 1708), Xbox Elite Series 2, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Xbox Series controllers, PlayStation DualShock 4, PlayStation DualSense, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and Switch Joy-Cons. Compatibility depends on iOS, so a model’s appearance on this list does not guarantee support with every iPhone or iOS version. Check support for the iOS version installed on your phone if the controller connects inconsistently or never appears.
When comparing controller options for Delta, focus on the connection path and the iOS compatibility requirement rather than assuming every controller behaves alike. The documented workflow here is Bluetooth: iOS must connect the device before Delta can list it. Delta’s system-specific mapping is another practical point of comparison, because you can customize controls for the system you are playing. If you are considering a controller for Delta on iPhone, verify the specific model against the current iOS version and Delta’s controller guide instead of relying only on a family name.

If a model is not listed in Delta’s guide, or if it is listed but does not appear on your current iPhone, the available guidance does not establish that it will work in every configuration. First confirm iOS reports an active Bluetooth connection. Then check Delta’s Player 1 list. Only after the controller appears should you assess its system mapping.
Why is Delta audio silent or crackling?
First determine whether the problem affects gameplay, a game preview, or both. iPhone silent mode and Delta’s audio behavior settings can affect what you hear, while Delta release notes document specific fixes for preview audio in silent mode and SNES audio crackling.
Check silent mode and compare preview with gameplay
- Check the iPhone’s Ring/Silent state.
- Review Delta’s audio behavior settings, including the behavior associated with silent mode where available in your installed build.
- If a game preview is silent, launch the game and check its in-game audio before treating the issue as a general gameplay-audio failure.
Preview sound and gameplay sound can follow different paths. Delta’s release notes document a fix for game-preview audio when silent mode is involved, so a preview-only problem may be different from a problem with sound after the game starts.
Use the comparison to isolate the symptom. If a preview is quiet but the game has sound after launch, concentrate on preview behavior and silent-mode settings rather than assuming all game audio is disabled. If both are silent, check the iPhone’s Ring/Silent state and Delta’s audio settings. If the behavior changed after an app update, review the installed build and its available audio options; the App Store version history documents audio-behavior changes across releases.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What if SNES audio crackles?
Update Delta and retest the game. Delta’s release notes list a specific fix for SNES audio crackling. This is a reason to check the installed build before changing unrelated iPhone audio settings; the notes do not establish that every crackling problem, or every console’s audio, has the same cause.
Keep the test to the affected SNES game if possible. If the crackle is limited to that system, the documented SNES fix is especially relevant. If you hear a different kind of audio problem, or it occurs across systems, the release-note item does not prove the same fix applies. Check silent-mode behavior and other audio settings that are available in your Delta build before drawing a conclusion.
What if sound changes when another app is playing audio?
Review Delta’s audio option for mixing with or pausing other audio, if that option is available in your installed build. Delta’s App Store version history documents audio-behavior changes across releases, so the options or behavior you see can depend on the installed version.
Do not assume an option is present under the same name in every version. Check the audio settings available in the installed build, then retest with the same game and the same other-audio condition. If the issue appears only while another app is playing audio, the mixing or pause behavior is a more targeted place to look than controller or save settings.

Why did my Delta save state disappear, and how can I recover progress?
Delta save states and a game’s own in-game battery saves are separate ways of preserving progress. Delta recommends in-game saves as more reliable, so check the game’s save or continue screen before concluding that progress is gone because a state is missing or incompatible.
Check for an in-game save first
Open the game and look for its normal in-game load, continue, or saved-progress option. The exact name and location depend on the game; Delta’s guidance is to prefer in-game saves because they are more reliable than save states. If the game offers a normal save, create one before updating Delta or attempting further recovery steps.
This is the most important distinction when progress appears to have vanished. A save state captures a point in play and is managed through Delta’s pause menu. An in-game battery save uses the game’s own save mechanism and is checked from within the game. They are not the same item in two menus, and finding one does not necessarily mean the other exists. Check the game’s own load or continue option before deciding that a missing state means all progress is lost.

Create or load a save state from the pause menu
- While playing, open Delta’s pause menu.
- Choose Save State to create a state, or Load State to restore one.
- Choose the state you intend to use and confirm that the game returns to the expected point.
Save states capture a point during play and are managed separately from the game’s own save system. Delta also creates periodic auto-save states, but those should not replace a deliberate in-game save when the game supports one.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
When restoring progress, use the state list to select the checkpoint you mean to load, then confirm the game resumes at the expected point. If you are unsure which point is which, the state-management options can help organize the list. Do not assume an auto-save is the same as the most recent intentional save; check the available states and use a normal in-game save for a more reliable checkpoint when the game permits it.
What do locked states and the state menu options do?
Long-press a state to rename, delete, lock, or unlock it. A locked state cannot be overwritten, which can help protect a useful checkpoint from accidental replacement. If a state is not updating as expected, check whether it is locked before assuming Delta failed to save.
Renaming a state can make it easier to distinguish checkpoints, while locking one protects it from being overwritten. Deleting is destructive, so avoid removing a state while investigating an incompatibility or missing-progress message. If you want a fresh checkpoint, keep a useful locked state intact and create another state separately rather than risking the only point you recognize.
What if a state is marked incompatible after an update?
Make a normal in-game save before further updates if the game allows it, then install the newest Delta build and check the state again. Delta’s release notes list fixes for incorrect incompatible-state displays and rare save-state crashes, so an incompatibility message can reflect an app issue rather than proving that all progress is unrecoverable. Avoid deleting the state while diagnosing the message.
Treat the warning as a reason to protect other available progress first, not as proof that the state is permanently unusable. Check for an in-game save, leave the state in place, and update Delta before trying it again. The release notes establish that incorrect warnings and rare crashes have been addressed in some builds; they do not promise that every state can be recovered or that every incompatibility is only a display error.
How do I check Delta Sync?
Open Delta Settings and review the Sync status if you use Delta Sync. Delta’s settings guide says Sync can synchronize games and save data between devices; release notes also document fixes involving missing-file errors, conflicts, and outdated queued changes. Treat a sync problem as a separate route to check—not as proof that a local state or in-game save is absent.
Sync is relevant when you use more than one device or are checking whether games and save data have synchronized. Look at the status rather than assuming that a recent save has already appeared elsewhere. The documented fixes for missing-file errors, conflicts, and outdated queued changes are reminders that synchronization can have its own failure modes. They do not establish an immediate backup schedule or guarantee that every recent save is already available on another device.
What if opening a game or state preview crashes Delta?
Disable Context Menu Previews in Delta’s Settings if long-pressing a game or save state crashes the app. Delta’s Settings guide identifies this as the way to keep the context menu usable when previews are causing the crash. Once the menu works, use it to inspect or manage the item without relying on the preview.
This setting is a targeted workaround for crashes associated with opening a context-menu preview. It is not a general fix for every crash in Delta. If the crash happens specifically when long-pressing a game or state, disable previews and try the menu again. That can make it possible to access the context menu and manage the item while avoiding the preview that was triggering the problem.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which recovery path should I use?
Use the path that matches what is failing. These options are not interchangeable: a connection check addresses controller discovery, a mapping change addresses control assignment, and an in-game save, state, or synced copy represents a different way to preserve progress.

| Problem | First path to try | What it addresses |
|---|---|---|

| Progress missing from a state list | Check the game’s in-game save, then inspect Delta’s state menu | A separate save path that may still preserve progress |
| State unavailable on another device | Review Delta Sync status in Settings | Synchronization of games and save data between devices |
For future protection, keep a normal in-game save where available and consider Sync if you use more than one device. A state is useful for resuming at a particular point, but it is not a substitute for the game’s own save mechanism.
Think of the available progress paths by reliability and purpose. Delta specifically recommends in-game saves as more reliable than save states. A save state is useful for preserving an exact point in a session, while Sync is for synchronizing games and save data between devices. These paths may complement each other, but the guidance does not make them interchangeable or promise that a synced copy is immediate. For an important game, make the game’s normal save when available, use save states for convenient checkpoints, and check Sync status if you rely on another device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Delta Sync guarantee that every save is backed up immediately?
Delta describes Sync as synchronizing games and save data between devices, but the settings guidance does not establish an immediate backup schedule or a recovery guarantee. Check the Sync status in Settings rather than assuming that a recent change has already reached another device.
Can I connect a keyboard to Delta instead of a controller?
Delta’s Controllers guide says a controller or keyboard must first be connected in the device’s Bluetooth settings to appear in Delta. That connection prerequisite does not by itself establish that every keyboard or every iOS version supports the same controls.
Does a Bluetooth controller need to be paired again every time I open Delta?
Delta’s documented requirement is that the controller be connected in iPhone Bluetooth settings before it appears in the app. If it is already connected when Delta is reopened, the guide does not call for repeating the pairing process.
Recommended Free Tools
Why does my controller show as paired but not appear in Delta?
Delta requires the controller to be connected in iPhone Bluetooth settings before it appears in the app. Confirm that iOS shows an active connection, then reopen Delta and select the controller under Player 1.
Why does a controller work in one Delta system but not another?
Delta allows controls to be customized by system. Select the controller under Player 1 and review Customize Controls for the system with the problem; a mapping for another system may not resolve it.
Why is a game preview silent when the game itself has sound?
Preview audio and gameplay audio can behave differently. Check the iPhone Ring/Silent state and Delta’s audio behavior settings, then compare the preview with sound after launching the game. Delta release notes document a fix involving preview audio and silent mode.
What should I do if my Delta save state says incompatible?
Do not delete the state while diagnosing it. Make a normal in-game save first if the game allows one, install the newest Delta build, and check again. Release notes list fixes for incorrect incompatible-state displays, but not every incompatibility is necessarily a display issue.
Are save states more reliable than in-game saves?
No. Delta’s Save States guide recommends in-game saves because they are more reliable than save states. Save states remain useful for returning to a particular point, but they are a separate progress path.
What can I do if long-pressing a game or save state crashes Delta?
Disable Context Menu Previews in Delta’s Settings. Delta’s Settings guide recommends turning previews off when they cause a crash so the context menu remains usable.
The Bottom Line
For controller problems, confirm an active iPhone Bluetooth connection before checking Delta’s Player 1 selection and per-system mapping. For audio, compare preview sound with gameplay and check silent-mode behavior before changing unrelated settings. For progress, look for the game’s normal save first, preserve questionable states, and use Delta Sync only with its status in view. Update Delta when the symptom matches a fix recorded in its release notes, but treat that as a troubleshooting lead rather than a guarantee.
