Most Cubitt 5 Bluetooth problems can be fixed without an app: use the supplied infrared remote to select Bluetooth, hold PAIRING for about three seconds until the primary speaker’s LED flashes blue, then select FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5 on your phone, tablet, or computer. A solid blue LED confirms the connection. If an old device keeps taking over or a new device will not pair, repeat the same long press while Bluetooth is selected to reset the stored Bluetooth connections.

When pairing succeeds but music is silent, treat it as a playback or speaker-link problem rather than a Bluetooth-discovery problem. Check the source volume and output route, confirm the Cubitt 5 is powered, and inspect the cable linking the primary and secondary speakers. The Cubitt 5 uses Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD and AAC, and all Bluetooth control is performed with the supplied remote rather than a control app.

What do the Cubitt 5 LED and Bluetooth states mean?

What you observe What it indicates Next action
LED is flashing blue after holding PAIRING The primary speaker is discoverable Open Bluetooth settings on the source and select FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5.
LED becomes solid blue Pairing has completed Play a short audio track and verify the source output and volume.

How do I put the Fyne Audio Cubitt 5 into Bluetooth pairing mode?

Pairing is started from the supplied IR remote, not from a mobile application. The remote must be able to reach the primary speaker, and the speaker must be powered on.

Use this exact pairing sequence

  1. Turn on the Cubitt 5 and point the supplied remote toward the primary speaker.
  2. Press the remote’s Bluetooth input button to select Bluetooth.
  3. Press and hold PAIRING for around three seconds.
  4. Release the button when the primary speaker’s LED begins flashing blue. Flashing blue is the discoverable state.
  5. On the phone, tablet or computer, open its Bluetooth settings, enable Bluetooth and start a scan.
  6. Choose FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5 from the discovered-device list.
  7. Wait for the Cubitt 5 LED to turn solid blue, then start playback.

Fyne Audio’s Cubitt 5 Manual describes the key action this way: “For Bluetooth devices, ensure the loudspeaker is powered on, press and hold the PAIRING button on the remote for around 3 seconds, until the LED starts flashing blue indicating it is in pairing mode.”

If the name does not appear

Keep the Bluetooth settings screen open while you repeat the three-second hold. The device is not continuously discoverable merely because the Bluetooth input was selected; the flashing-blue state is the useful confirmation that a fresh pairing window has opened.

Why can’t my phone find “FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5”?

The usual causes are that pairing mode was never started, the remote command did not register, or a previous connection is still occupying the speaker. Work through these checks in order rather than changing several variables at once.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Confirm the correct Bluetooth input

Use the remote to select Bluetooth before holding PAIRING. If another input is active, the long press may not perform the Bluetooth reset or pairing action described in the manual.

2. Verify the flashing-blue LED

A phone cannot discover the speaker until the primary speaker indicates pairing mode by flashing blue. If there is no flash, go to the remote checks below before troubleshooting the phone.

3. Search for the exact device name

The discoverable name is FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5. Do not select a similarly named television, headset or previously saved entry. If the old entry remains in the phone’s list but a new scan cannot connect, remove that old entry on the source and then begin a new Cubitt 5 pairing attempt.

4. Clear a connection held by another device

A phone or computer that was paired earlier can reconnect automatically when Bluetooth is enabled. Temporarily switch Bluetooth off on nearby devices that have used the Cubitt 5, then start pairing from the intended source. If the old device continues to reclaim the connection, use the Cubitt 5 Bluetooth reset procedure in the next section.

5. Reduce distance and radio obstacles

Perform the first pairing with the source close to the primary speaker and with no cabinet or wall between them. Once the solid-blue connection is established, you can move the source to its normal position. This simple test distinguishes a discovery problem from a range or interference problem.

6. Try a second source

If a second phone or computer can see and pair with the speaker, the Cubitt 5 is advertising correctly and the original source’s saved Bluetooth record or radio settings are the likely cause. If no source can see the name while the LED is flashing blue, concentrate on the remote, speaker power and reset steps rather than on the phone.

How do I reset Bluetooth connections on the Cubitt 5?

The Cubitt 5 has a Bluetooth-connection reset initiated by the remote. It is intended for situations in which an old phone or computer keeps reconnecting, a new device is rejected, or several pairing attempts have left the connection state confused.

  1. Use the remote to select the Bluetooth input.
  2. Press and hold PAIRING again for around three seconds.
  3. Release the button and wait for the speaker to indicate pairing mode with a flashing-blue LED.
  4. On the intended source, remove any saved Cubitt 5 entry if it still shows an old or failed connection.
  5. Run a fresh Bluetooth scan and select FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5.
  6. Continue only after the LED becomes solid blue.

The reset is performed while the Bluetooth input is selected. Holding the button while another input is active is not the documented Bluetooth-reset sequence, so return to the Bluetooth input and repeat it if nothing changes.

Why is the Cubitt 5 paired but not playing sound?

A solid-blue LED confirms that the Bluetooth link was established; it does not prove that the source is sending audio to the Cubitt 5. Check playback separately.

Check the source’s output route and volume

  • Raise the volume on the phone, tablet or computer, not only on the speaker.
  • Start a known audio track and verify that the operating system’s selected output is FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5, rather than the built-in speaker, a wired headset or another Bluetooth device.
  • Check that the track or application is not paused or muted.

Check Cubitt 5 power and input state

Confirm that the system is powered and still set to the Bluetooth input. The Cubitt 5 enters automatic standby after approximately 20 minutes without a signal, so a system that was left idle may need to be woken and selected again before playback resumes.

Inspect the primary-to-secondary speaker cable

The Cubitt 5 is a two-speaker system. Make sure the cable linking the primary and secondary speakers is fully inserted at both ends and locked in place. A Bluetooth connection can remain established while a loose or incompletely locked speaker cable prevents the expected output from reaching the second cabinet.

Use a short, local test

With the source beside the primary speaker, play a locally stored track at a moderate volume. If that works, the original silence may have been caused by the application’s output route, a streaming session that was paused, or distance and interference. If it remains silent, repeat the source-output, power and cable checks before attempting another pairing reset.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I do if the remote does not respond?

The remote is essential for selecting Bluetooth and initiating both pairing and the Bluetooth reset, so it is the first hardware check when the LED never changes.

  1. Stand where the remote has a clear line of sight to the primary speaker.
  2. Point the remote at the primary speaker, not the secondary cabinet.
  3. Open the battery compartment and verify that both cells are installed with the polarity marks aligned.
  4. Replace both batteries with fresh AAA batteries if the LED still does not react.
  5. After replacing the batteries, select Bluetooth and hold PAIRING for around three seconds again.

Do not diagnose the phone while the remote command itself is unconfirmed. A dead battery can make a correctly working Cubitt 5 appear undiscoverable because the speaker never enters flashing-blue mode.

Can firmware updates fix Bluetooth behavior?

Firmware should be considered only when Fyne Audio has supplied an update and its instructions direct you to install it. The Cubitt 5’s USB port is for firmware updates, not for USB audio playback.

Documented update outline

  1. Download the applicable firmware supplied through Fyne Audio’s support material.
  2. Format a USB stick as FAT32 and copy the update files to it as instructed.
  3. Remove power from the speaker system.
  4. Insert the prepared USB stick into the Cubitt 5.
  5. Restore power and watch for the blue LED flash that indicates the update process.
  6. Allow the procedure to finish before removing power or the USB stick.

Do not install an unrelated file or interrupt power during an update. If Fyne Audio has not directed you to a firmware package for your specific Cubitt 5, finish the basic pairing, reset, remote and playback checks first.

What Bluetooth and electrical specifications matter during troubleshooting?

These manufacturer specifications explain what the Cubitt 5 can negotiate and which symptoms are unrelated to Bluetooth discovery.

Specification Value Why it matters
Bluetooth version Bluetooth 5.0 The speaker uses a modern Bluetooth radio, but the source still has to complete the normal discovery and connection process.
Supported Bluetooth codecs aptX HD and AAC Playback quality depends on which codec the source and speaker successfully negotiate; codec support does not replace the pairing procedure.
Maximum amplifier power 240 watts A silent system should not be assumed to be a low-power Bluetooth connection; check routing, power and the speaker cable.
Maximum digital resolution 24-bit/96 kHz This is the published digital-resolution limit, not a requirement that every Bluetooth source provide that format.
Automatic standby Approximately 20 minutes without a signal An idle system may appear inactive until it is powered or sent a new signal.
Mains input 100–240 volts The universal input supports those mains ranges; it does not eliminate the need for a correctly connected power lead and powered system.

Fyne Audio lists these figures in its 2026 product information and Cubitt 5 documentation. The Cubitt 5 has no control app, so app-based pairing instructions found for other speaker systems do not apply here.

How can I tell whether the fault is the source, Bluetooth state or speaker hardware?

Use the following isolation sequence. It changes one part of the system at a time and gives each result a useful interpretation.

  1. Remote test: press a command while aimed at the primary speaker. If there is no response, fix the line-of-sight or AAA-battery issue first.
  2. Pairing-mode test: select Bluetooth and hold PAIRING. A flashing-blue LED means the speaker is ready to be discovered.
  3. Exact-name test: scan from the intended source and look specifically for FYNE AUDIO CUBITT 5.
  4. Second-source test: try another nearby phone, tablet or computer. Success on the second source points to the original device’s saved Bluetooth state or output settings.
  5. Reset test: while Bluetooth is selected, hold PAIRING for around three seconds and repeat the scan. A change after this test indicates stale stored connections were involved.
  6. Playback test: after the LED turns solid blue, play a local track and verify the source output route and volume.
  7. Speaker-link test: with the system powered, reseat and lock the primary-to-secondary cable. This addresses silence that Bluetooth pairing alone cannot explain.

If the remote works, the LED flashes blue, several sources fail to discover the exact name, and a reset changes nothing, stop repeating phone-side pairing attempts. Record the LED behavior, source devices tried and cable checks, then provide those details to Fyne Audio support.

How do I prevent the Cubitt 5 from reconnecting to the wrong device?

  • Turn off Bluetooth on an old phone or computer before starting a new pairing session.
  • Remove obsolete Cubitt 5 entries from devices that no longer need access.
  • Pair the intended source while it is close to the primary speaker and the LED is visibly flashing blue.
  • When finished listening, disconnect the source if another household device must use the speaker immediately.
  • Keep the remote somewhere accessible; it is required for selecting Bluetooth and resetting stored connections.

These practices reduce automatic reconnections without changing the speaker’s firmware or repeatedly deleting working Bluetooth records.

When should I stop troubleshooting and contact Fyne Audio?

Contact Fyne Audio when the remote has fresh, correctly oriented AAA batteries and clear line of sight, the system is powered, the primary-to-secondary cable is locked, and more than one source still cannot discover the speaker during a confirmed flashing-blue pairing state. Also seek support if an update fails, the LED behaves differently from the documented states, or the speaker repeatedly loses power.

Tell support the source operating systems, whether the exact name appeared, whether the LED flashed or became solid blue, whether the Bluetooth reset changed anything, and whether the second speaker produced output. Those observations are more useful than simply reporting that “Bluetooth does not work.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Cubitt 5 need a phone app for Bluetooth pairing?

No. Pairing, selecting the Bluetooth input and resetting stored connections are performed with the supplied infrared remote. The Cubitt 5 has no control app, so instructions that depend on an app do not apply to this model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will every phone use aptX HD with the Cubitt 5?

Not necessarily. The speaker supports aptX HD and AAC, but the codec used for a session depends on the capabilities and settings of the source device as well as the speaker; support for a codec does not force every source to use it.

Why does the speaker seem unavailable after I leave it idle?

The Cubitt 5 is specified to enter automatic standby after approximately 20 minutes without a signal. Wake the powered system, select Bluetooth with the remote and send a new audio signal before treating the pause as a failed pairing.

Can I use the Cubitt 5 USB port as a music input?

No. The documented USB procedure is for installing manufacturer-supplied firmware from a FAT32-formatted stick. Bluetooth or another supported audio input should be used for music playback.

What information should I give support if pairing still fails?

Report whether the remote changes the LED, whether the exact name appears during a scan, which source devices you tried, whether the Bluetooth reset altered the behavior, and whether the primary-to-secondary cable is locked. This lets support distinguish discovery, playback, power and speaker-link faults.
