If Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced stopped launching after an update, start with the least destructive checks: identify the exact symptom, restart the PC and launchers, verify the installation in the launcher that owns it, then clear Steam and Ubisoft Connect caches if the problem remains. A black screen also warrants reverting Nvidia App optimization and removing recently added mods or language patches. Ubisoft’s 1.0.8 update, scheduled for October 27, 2026, fixes one narrowly defined offline-mode launch problem, not every post-update crash. These steps apply to the separate Resynced product, not the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag; the game requires a Ubisoft account.
Is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced the same game as the original Black Flag?
No. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a separate product listing from the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Its PC release can be purchased through Steam, Ubisoft Connect or Epic, while Ubisoft also lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S support. A Ubisoft account is required, even when the purchase began in another PC storefront.
That distinction matters during troubleshooting. Verify files in the launcher that owns the installation, and do not assume that a repair option shown in Ubisoft Connect applies to a copy installed and managed entirely by Steam or Epic.

What did the 1.0.8 update actually fix?
Ubisoft’s title-update notes, published October 26, 2026, scheduled version 1.0.8 for October 27 at 14:00 UTC. The notes list an offline-mode launch fix and an improved-stability change. The exact launch fix is limited to a particular sequence:

“Fixed an issue where Players were unable to launch the game in Offline Mode if connection to servers was lost whilst playing.”
That wording does not establish that 1.0.8 fixes every black screen, authentication failure, cloud-sync loop or immediate exit. It also does not prove that an update caused a specific player’s failure. Use the symptom and launcher checks below rather than treating the version number as a diagnosis.
What should I check before changing files?
Write down what happens and what changed. This prevents a reversible launch problem from turning into an unnecessary reinstall or lost settings.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that the game is Resynced, not the original Black Flag.
- Note whether the Play button returns to Play, the process exits immediately, a Ubisoft logo is followed by a black screen, or an error mentions starting, locating, authentication or synchronization.
- Record the installed game version, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, installation drive and GPU-driver version and release date.
- Record recent changes such as update 1.0.7 or 1.0.8, a mod, a language patch or Nvidia App game optimization.
- Keep personal settings and saves backed up before any reinstall or folder removal. Do not delete an unidentified folder simply because it appears near the game files.
Restart the computer and the relevant launcher once. A restart is a sensible, reversible diagnostic step, not a Ubisoft-confirmed cure.
How do I fix a Play button that returns to Play or an immediate exit on PC?
Begin with file verification in the launcher that owns the installation. Ubisoft says verification can restore missing or corrupted files, and this check does not intentionally remove personal saves.
Steam installation
- Open Steam and go to the game in your Library.
- Open the game’s Properties and select the Installed Files section.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and wait for Steam to finish.
- Start the game from Steam after the check completes. If Steam reports repaired files but the game still exits, continue with the cache steps below.
Ubisoft Connect installation
- Open Ubisoft Connect and select Resynced in the Games list.
- Open the game’s properties or management menu and choose the available file-verification option.
- Allow Ubisoft Connect to download or repair anything it identifies, then launch again from that same installation.
Menu wording can change between Ubisoft Connect versions. If the installation was bought through Steam or Epic, use that storefront’s verification tool first instead of assuming Ubisoft Connect owns every local file.
If verification does not change the result
Close the game and both launchers completely, including any launcher process still running in the Windows notification area. Ubisoft’s game-specific PC support recommends clearing both the Steam cache and the Ubisoft Connect cache for persistent launch failures. Clear only the launcher caches, not save-game or settings folders, then sign in again and repeat the launch.

Keep the result of each check separate: note whether verification found anything to repair, whether the launcher cache was cleared, and whether the next attempt reached a different screen. If Steam or Ubisoft Connect offers to download an update or repair files, let that process finish before testing again. This helps distinguish a file or launcher issue from a failure that appears only after the game begins loading.
What should I do about a Ubisoft logo followed by a black screen?
A black screen needs a slightly different sequence because graphics settings, optimization profiles and modified files can be involved. Verify the files first, clear both launcher caches, then undo recent changes before considering a reinstall.
- Run Steam or Ubisoft Connect verification, depending on the owning launcher.
- Clear the Steam and Ubisoft Connect caches, restart Windows, and try again.
- If Nvidia App applied an optimization profile to the game, open that profile and revert the game to its defaults. Do not treat an automatically chosen optimization as a required setting.
- Temporarily remove or disable mods and language patches, preserving a copy of any files you may need to restore.
- Launch without changing several unrelated settings at once, so the next result remains useful diagnostically.
One player reported that removing mods, including a Turkish language patch, resolved that person’s black-screen problem after version 1.0.7. It is an individual report, not a confirmed universal remedy; an unmodified installation can still fail for another reason.
Before any destructive repair, copy personal settings and saves to a safe location. A reinstall is not guaranteed to solve a black screen: one post-update report said reinstalling and verifying did not help, while a different report described a more involved reinstall workaround. Those reports are anecdotal and do not establish which procedure works generally.

How do I fix “Unable to start game” or “Unable to locate game”?
Use the owning launcher’s repair or verification flow, then follow any update prompt it presents.
- For a Steam purchase, verify the files in Steam first.
- For a Ubisoft Connect installation, use Ubisoft Connect’s game verification option and accept any subsequent update or repair prompt.
- For an Epic purchase, start with Epic’s installed-game verification rather than treating Ubisoft Connect as the file owner.
- If the launcher can no longer find the installation, check that the original drive is connected and mounted before moving or reinstalling anything.
Do not delete the game directory to force a rediscovery unless you have preserved saves and understand which launcher owns the installation. The exact error text is useful evidence if the launcher continues to report that it cannot locate the game.
Launcher ownership is the practical dividing line: use Steam’s checks for a Steam-managed copy, Epic’s checks for an Epic-managed copy, and Ubisoft Connect’s verification for a Ubisoft Connect installation. A Ubisoft account is still required for the game, but account sign-in does not make Ubisoft Connect the owner of every installed game file. If the launch error appears before the game opens, note which launcher displayed it and whether it offered a repair or update; those details can help support separate a missing-installation problem from a game startup failure.

What if Ubisoft Connect shows a cloud-save or achievement synchronization error?
First determine whether Ubisoft Connect and the game can connect normally. A synchronization message points toward account connectivity or security software rather than the same repair path as a damaged game file.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Confirm that Ubisoft Connect is signed in and that the game reaches its account services without repeatedly asking for credentials.
- Check whether third-party security software is blocking Ubisoft Connect or the game. Ubisoft guidance in a game-specific discussion suggests allowing both applications through that software.
- Restart Ubisoft Connect after changing an allowed-app rule, then retry the launch and synchronization.
- If the game previously lost its server connection while you were playing, try again after the connection is restored. Version 1.0.8 specifically addresses launching in Offline Mode after that loss-of-connection sequence.
Ubisoft says the PC game can be played offline after a one-time online installation connection. That statement does not prove that every account, authentication or cloud-synchronization problem can be bypassed simply by switching to offline mode.
Do not treat a cloud-save or achievement message as proof that the installed game files are damaged. Conversely, a successful offline launch would not demonstrate that cloud synchronization is working. Keep those outcomes distinct: record whether the game itself opens, whether Ubisoft Connect signs in, and whether the save or achievement message remains. No live service-status determination is available here, so do not assume that Ubisoft’s servers are currently either available or down.
Which fix should I try for my symptom?
| What you see | First relevant checks | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Play returns to Play or the game exits immediately | Restart the PC and launchers, then verify files through the owning launcher. Clear both launcher caches if it persists. | Do not assume the update is the cause or begin by deleting the installation. |
| Ubisoft logo, then black screen | Verify files, clear both caches, revert Nvidia App optimization if used, and test without mods or language patches. | One player’s mod-removal result is not a universal fix. |
| “Unable to start” or “Unable to locate game” | Verify with the purchase/installation launcher and follow its repair or update prompt. Confirm the installation drive is connected. | Do not use a different launcher’s repair flow as a substitute for the owning storefront. |
| Cloud-save, achievement or sign-in error | Check Ubisoft Connect connectivity and whether security software blocks the game or launcher. | Offline mode is not a general workaround for account or synchronization failures. |
| Console launch failure | Record the message and version, then use current platform support guidance and Ubisoft game support. | PC cache and Nvidia App instructions do not apply to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. |
This comparison is a triage aid, not a diagnosis. The relevant dimensions are platform, launcher ownership, visible symptom, recent changes and how reversible the next step is. Start with verification and settings rollback before considering a reinstall. If several symptoms occur together, write down their order—for example, whether the game reaches a black screen before a synchronization warning appears—rather than collapsing them into a single “won’t launch” description.
Do the PC requirements explain a post-update launch failure?
Check the requirements when the installation drive or memory configuration is marginal, but do not treat them as proof that the update damaged hardware. Ubisoft’s US Store listing specifies these minimum PC items:
| Requirement | Ubisoft-listed minimum | How it relates to troubleshooting |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | 65 GB on an SSD with a DRAM cache | Check free capacity, drive health and compatibility before moving the installation. |
| Memory | 16 GB dual-channel RAM | Confirm the system meets the stated minimum before treating memory pressure as a possible contributor. |
These are requirements, not measured repair success rates. If your drive does not meet the stated SSD-with-DRAM requirement, a conditional search phrase such as internal SSD with DRAM cache may help you research compatible hardware; check capacity, interface and device compatibility first. Replacing a drive is not a guaranteed cure for a black screen or launcher error.
Do not buy a drive solely because the game stopped launching after an update. First establish whether the current installation drive meets the listed requirement and has enough available space, and confirm that any replacement is compatible with your device. The listed 65 GB is a storage requirement, not a promise that moving the game or upgrading storage will repair a particular error. The same caution applies to RAM: Ubisoft lists 16 GB dual-channel as the minimum, but that specification alone does not identify the cause of a launch failure.

Should I reinstall the game?
Reinstall only after verification, cache clearing and recent-change rollback have failed, and only after preserving saves and settings. Reinstallation can replace damaged files, but the available player reports conflict: one player said reinstalling plus verification did not solve a black screen, while another described a more involved reinstall workaround. Neither report provides a controlled success rate.
If you do reinstall, use the same launcher that owns the purchase, allow the installation to complete on a suitable drive, install the current update, and test before restoring mods or language patches. Adding modifications back one at a time makes it easier to identify a conflict.
There is no verified percentage for how often verification, cache clearing or reinstalling fixes this particular problem. Treat each as a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed cure. If verification reports no file problems and a reinstall still produces the same symptom, retain that information for support rather than repeating the same destructive step without a new reason.
What are the correct steps on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S?
Resynced supports PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the cache-clearing and Nvidia App procedures above are PC-only. Exact current console repair-menu paths were not established here, so do not apply PC instructions to a console.
On a console, record the visible message, installed version and whether the failure began immediately after the update. Then use the platform’s current support procedure for restarting, checking the installation or reinstalling, and consult Ubisoft’s game support for title-specific guidance. Avoid deleting local saves unless the platform’s support instructions explicitly explain the effect and you have confirmed that cloud saves are synchronized.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When should I contact Ubisoft support?
Contact support after the owning-launcher verification, cache clearing and relevant graphics or mod rollback fail, or when the launcher cannot authenticate or locate the installation. Include diagnostic details rather than only saying that the update “bricked” the game.

What should I avoid while troubleshooting?
- Do not confuse the Resynced listing with the original Black Flag.
- Do not verify files in a launcher that does not own the installation unless its support instructions specifically direct you to do so.
- Do not assume the 1.0.8 offline-mode fix covers all startup or authentication failures.
- Do not delete unidentified folders, saves or settings as a first step.
- Do not buy hardware solely because a game stopped launching after an update; first compare the system with the stated 65 GB SSD-with-DRAM and 16 GB dual-channel minimums.
- Do not treat one player’s mod-removal or reinstall experience as a guaranteed fix.
- Do not infer that Ubisoft’s servers are currently up or down from an offline, sign-in or sync error alone.
- Do not apply PC cache-clearing or Nvidia App advice to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Resynced without a Ubisoft account after installing through Steam?
No. The Resynced product requires a Ubisoft account even when Steam or another PC storefront handled the purchase. A launcher sign-in problem therefore needs account or connectivity troubleshooting, not just file verification.
Will deleting my save files fix a black screen?
There is no established evidence that deleting saves repairs this post-update symptom, and it can remove progress or settings. Preserve those files and try verification, cache clearing and rollback of recent modifications first.
Does update 1.0.8 guarantee that offline launch will work?
No. Ubisoft’s note covers the case where a server connection was lost while playing and the next Offline Mode launch failed. It does not promise a cure for every offline, authentication or startup error.
Is an SSD upgrade enough to repair the game?
No. Ubisoft lists an SSD with a DRAM cache and 65 GB of storage as a minimum PC requirement, but that specification is not a repair-success guarantee. Check capacity and compatibility only if the current drive does not meet the requirement.
What information is most useful in a support ticket?
Include the exact error and failure point, launcher, game version, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, drive, available space and GPU-driver release date. Also list mods, language patches, optimization profiles and the repair steps already attempted.
Should I clear Steam’s cache or Ubisoft Connect’s cache?
For a persistent PC launch failure, Ubisoft’s game-specific support recommends clearing both caches. Close the launchers first, clear launcher caches rather than save or settings folders, sign in again, and retry.

Not necessarily. Ubisoft says PC offline play is available after a one-time online installation connection, but that does not mean every account, authentication or cloud-sync issue can be bypassed offline.
Are the PC troubleshooting steps valid for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S?
No. Steam and Ubisoft Connect cache steps and Nvidia App optimization apply to PC. For console problems, record the error and game version, then follow current platform support guidance or contact Ubisoft.
The Bottom Line
Match the fix to the symptom: verify files in the launcher that owns the game, clear both launcher caches for a persistent PC failure, and for a black screen undo Nvidia App optimization or test without recent mods. Update 1.0.8 addresses one specific Offline Mode failure after losing a server connection—not every post-update launch problem. Preserve saves and settings, and treat reinstalling or upgrading hardware as conditional steps, not guaranteed repairs.
