A silent Klipsch Flexus CORE 300 is usually recoverable without a repair: first verify mute and volume, then match the bar’s source to the connected input, correct the TV’s HDMI or optical output settings, test the cable, update firmware, and only then troubleshoot wireless speakers. If the bar plays but the rear channels do not, the Flexus Surr speakers need power and a working USB-transmitter pairing. Systems that include both a subwoofer and surrounds also have a one-transmitter limitation that must be handled deliberately.
The sequence below separates TV signal problems from wireless pairing, firmware, interference, and Dirac calibration issues. Follow it in order so a reset does not erase a configuration that could have been fixed with one setting.
Is the problem total silence or only missing surround audio?
Identify the symptom before changing settings. A completely silent bar points first to mute, source selection, the TV output path, cable, or firmware. Sound from the bar with silent rear speakers points to speaker power, transmitter pairing, interference, or a changed Dirac hardware configuration.
| What you hear | Most useful first check | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|
| No sound from the bar on any source | Raise volume, clear mute, and confirm the active source on the display | The bar may be muted, at minimum volume, or listening to an input with no signal. |
| No TV sound, but another connected source works | Correct the TV’s HDMI/eARC or optical output and select the matching bar source | The TV output path, CEC/eARC negotiation, or optical connection is the likely fault. |
| Bar audio works, rear speakers are silent | Check Flexus Surr power and USB-transmitter pairing | The main amplifier and TV signal are working; the wireless surround link needs attention. |
| Surrounds or subwoofer disappeared after adding hardware | Verify that only one USB transmitter is plugged into the bar and manually pair the other peripheral | The system may be using the wrong transmitter arrangement rather than having failed speakers. |
Do not change several variables at once. Disconnect unused source devices temporarily and test one known signal path at a time.

How do I restore sound when the entire CORE 300 is silent?
1. Wake the bar and clear mute
Use the remote or the controls on the soundbar to raise the volume. Press mute again if it is active. The CORE 300 manual identifies “MUTE” on the front display when the bar is muted or the volume is at minimum; the display also identifies the active source. A normal-looking display does not prove that the TV is sending audio, so continue with source and TV checks if the bar remains quiet.
2. Select the source that matches the physical cable
The CORE 300’s television connection is its HDMI eARC input. When the TV is connected with HDMI ARC/eARC, select TV on the bar. When the television is connected through optical, select DIGITAL. Selecting DIGITAL while using HDMI, or TV while using optical, leaves the bar listening to the wrong input even though every cable may be intact.
For a clean diagnosis, unplug or switch off other source devices temporarily. This prevents a second device from masking whether the TV path is working.

3. Set the TV to send audio to HDMI or optical
Open the television’s sound-output menu and choose the connected audio system instead of the TV’s internal speakers. Klipsch’s HDMI troubleshooting guidance uses HDMI as the sound-output choice. On an eARC-capable television, set HDMI e-ARC Mode to Auto or On.
Set Digital Output Format to Pass-Through. Some televisions label the same mode Bitstream. If the TV exposes a Dolby Atmos option, enable it while testing HDMI eARC. Menu names vary by manufacturer, so look for equivalent wording under Sound, Audio Output, Advanced Audio, or HDMI settings.
4. Isolate the cable and television path
Use the HDMI cable supplied with the CORE 300 when possible; Klipsch specifies that it meets HDMI 2.0a-or-higher requirements. If that cable is missing or suspect, test with a certified HDMI 2.0a-or-newer cable. Reseat both ends firmly, then power-cycle the television and soundbar before testing again.

Try another known-good source on the bar. If optical produces sound while ARC/eARC remains silent, that is a diagnostic indication that the bar’s amplifiers are functioning and the fault lies in the TV, HDMI cable, CEC negotiation, or eARC path. It is an isolation result, not proof that a particular TV component has failed.

5. Update the CORE 300 firmware
Connect the soundbar to Wi-Fi with internet access. Install or open Klipsch Connect Plus, select the CORE 300, and follow the setup prompts. The app presents a firmware update when one is available.
Keep the bar powered and connected to the TV during the update. Do not remove power while installation is in progress. After the app reports completion, select the correct source again and retest the original TV connection.
Which connection should I use: HDMI eARC or optical?
Both connections can deliver television audio, but they differ in control behavior and the settings that must be correct. Use HDMI eARC when the TV supports it and you want the TV remote and HDMI control features; use optical as a useful isolation test or when the television’s HDMI path is incompatible.
| Characteristic | HDMI ARC/eARC | Optical |
|---|---|---|
| CORE 300 input/source | HDMI eARC input; select TV | Optical input; select DIGITAL |
| TV output setting | Sound Output: HDMI; eARC Mode: Auto or On when available | Choose the optical/digital audio output in the TV menu |
| Digital format check | Digital Output Format: Pass-Through or Bitstream | Use the TV’s compatible digital-output mode if PCM is required for a basic test |
| Control and negotiation | Uses HDMI control/CEC and eARC negotiation; settings can prevent audio | Does not depend on the TV’s eARC negotiation |
| Cable requirement cited by Klipsch | HDMI 2.0a-or-higher cable | Optical cable in good condition |
After changing the TV connection, change the bar’s source immediately. A correct TV menu setting cannot produce sound if the CORE 300 is still selected to the other input.
How do I reconnect Flexus Surr speakers when the bar works but the rears are silent?
The rear speakers must be powered, compatible Flexus Surr units, and paired to the USB transmitter connected to the CORE 300. If they never enter pairing mode, check power and the transmitter before changing TV settings.

- Confirm that both Flexus Surr speakers are switched on and have power.
- Confirm that the Flexus USB transmitter is inserted into the CORE 300.
- On the bottom of each surround speaker, press and hold its pair button for 3–5 seconds. Release when the speaker status LEDs begin pulsing.
- Within the pairing window, press and hold the transmitter’s pair button for 3–5 seconds.
- Wait for the speaker status lights to become solid. A solid speaker LED indicates a successful pairing.
- Play content known to contain rear-channel information and raise the system volume. Stereo material may not produce obvious activity from every rear speaker, so use a surround test or multichannel program when checking the result.
If one speaker pairs and the other does not, repeat the sequence for both speakers rather than assuming the unlit unit is defective. Verify each speaker’s power state and that the transmitter is fully seated before attempting another pairing cycle.
Why did surround audio disappear after I added a subwoofer?
The CORE 300 accepts only one USB transmitter (dongle) at the bar. When a Flexus subwoofer and Flexus Surr speakers are installed together, the transmitter supplied with one peripheral remains connected to the bar, and the other peripheral must be manually paired to that same transmitter. Plugging both transmitters into the bar is not supported.
Keep the existing transmitter
Leave the transmitter already connected to the CORE 300 in place. Put the other peripheral into pairing mode and use the transmitter’s pair button to add it. This avoids unnecessary changes to a link that is already working.
If only the newly added device works
Check whether the original peripheral is still trying to use its own transmitter. Remove the extra transmitter, keep one transmitter attached to the bar, and manually pair the other speaker class to it. Recheck both speaker power states after pairing.
Do not factory-reset the bar simply because one class of peripheral disappeared. The one-transmitter arrangement is the first condition to correct.
How do I clear and rebuild an unstable wireless connection?
Wireless interference can make a previously paired subwoofer or surround set drop out. Strong wireless devices include routers, wireless access points, cordless devices, and other high-power transmitters.

- Move those devices farther from the soundbar, subwoofer, surrounds, and USB transmitter. Where practical, try a different electrical outlet for the affected peripheral.
- Leave the correct single transmitter attached to the bar.
- Press and hold the soundbar’s pair button for 10–15 seconds.
- Watch the front display for “Peripherals Cleared”. This confirms that the old wireless records were removed.
- Repeat the Flexus Surr pairing procedure, the subwoofer procedure, or both, depending on the equipment installed.
Clearing peripherals removes the wireless associations; it does not repair a failed speaker or correct a silent HDMI input. If the bar still has no TV sound, return to source and TV-output checks rather than repeatedly clearing wireless links.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How do I pair a Flexus 300 subwoofer separately?
Subwoofer pairing has a shorter transmitter step than the surround-speaker sequence.
- Power on the CORE 300 and the Flexus 300 subwoofer.
- Press and hold the subwoofer’s pair button for 3–5 seconds, until its status LED pulses.
- Press and hold the bar transmitter’s pair button for 3 seconds.
- Wait for the subwoofer status light to become solid, indicating successful pairing.
If surrounds are already installed, perform this procedure with the one transmitter that remains plugged into the bar. Do not insert a second transmitter for the subwoofer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can a Dirac calibration cause channels to vanish?
Yes. Dirac filters are hardware-specific: they are associated with the exact peripheral set present when calibration was performed. Disconnecting, replacing, or failing to power a calibrated surround or subwoofer can make dependent filters disappear or leave the system sounding incomplete.
When the original hardware is still available
Reconnect and pair the exact surround and subwoofer units used during the calibration. Restore their power and wireless link before judging the Dirac result.
When hardware has changed
If you added, replaced, or permanently removed a peripheral, run a new Dirac calibration for the current system. Do not expect filters created for a different speaker arrangement to map correctly to the new one.

When should I perform a factory reset?
Use a factory reset only after checking mute, source selection, TV output, cable, firmware, transmitter arrangement, wireless pairing, and Dirac hardware. A reset returns configuration to defaults and requires setup again, so it is a recovery step rather than a first-line audio test.
Klipsch maintains a dedicated CORE 300 factory-reset support article. Use the button sequence in that current article; do not copy a sequence intended for the Flexus CORE 100 or CORE 200. After resetting, reconnect the TV, choose the matching source, update firmware if prompted, pair the required peripherals, and calibrate Dirac again if the hardware set has changed.
What should I check before declaring the bar faulty?
- The front display no longer shows MUTE and the volume is above minimum.
- The selected bar source matches the cable: TV for HDMI eARC, DIGITAL for optical.
- The television sends audio to HDMI or optical instead of its internal speakers.
- HDMI eARC Mode is Auto or On where available, and Digital Output Format is Pass-Through or Bitstream.
- The cable meets HDMI 2.0a-or-higher requirements when HDMI is used.
- The CORE 300 has current firmware through Klipsch Connect Plus.
- Each Flexus Surr speaker has power and shows a solid status LED after pairing.
- Only one USB transmitter is connected to the bar when a subwoofer and surrounds share the system.
- Wireless sources of interference have been moved away, and “Peripherals Cleared” appeared before re-pairing if the link was unstable.
- Dirac was recalibrated after changing the peripheral set.
If another known-good source also fails after these checks, document which inputs and peripherals were tested before contacting Klipsch support. That information distinguishes a TV/eARC problem from a bar, transmitter, or speaker fault.

Can I use the CORE 300’s optical input just to test whether the soundbar works?
Yes. Connect a working optical source, select DIGITAL on the bar, and play audio. Sound over optical while HDMI remains silent narrows the issue to the television’s HDMI/eARC, CEC, or cable path rather than immediately implicating the bar’s audio hardware.
What does a pulsing surround-speaker LED mean during setup?
A pulsing LED means the speaker is waiting for the transmitter pairing step. Keep the speaker in that mode while you hold the transmitter’s pair button, then wait for a solid status light before testing playback.
Will moving my Wi-Fi router really affect Flexus speaker pairing?
It can. Klipsch specifically recommends separating strong wireless devices such as routers and access points from the bar, transmitter, subwoofer, and surrounds. Creating that distance before clearing and rebuilding the link prevents interference from immediately recreating dropouts.
Why should I avoid using a CORE 100 or CORE 200 reset procedure?
The reset sequence is model-specific. The current CORE 300 support article is the authoritative place for its button sequence; using instructions for another model can leave the bar in an unexpected state and force unnecessary setup work.
