Open Plex’s Discover section to browse recommendations from your personal media libraries, Plex’s free catalog, and the streaming services you select. Use Search when you have a title in mind, and save interesting picks to the Universal Watchlist to revisit them later.
Browse recommendations in Discover
- From Plex Home, open the left sidebar and select Discover. If it is not visible, open the sidebar’s More area and pin Discover for easier access.
- Browse the available recommendations, then open a title to see its details and available sources. Plex Discover can draw from accessible Plex Media Servers, Plex’s free Movies & Shows catalog, and selected external streaming services.
- On a title’s details page, check which source offers it before choosing where to watch. Availability can vary by title, service, and region.
Plex’s free, ad-supported Movies & Shows catalog supports Android TV. Plex also describes movie rentals as available to users in the United States and Canada; the title’s details page is the practical way to check current options.
Show the streaming services you use
Discover can only reflect the services configured for your Plex account. To review them, open Plex Settings and select Streaming Services or Manage Your Streaming Services—the exact label can vary. Select the services you already use and save your choices.
Return to Discover and check the title’s details for its reported sources. Seeing a service as an option does not guarantee Plex will open its app directly on Android TV. Follow Plex’s prompt to find or open the service on your device.

Search when you know what you want
Choose Search from Plex and enter a movie or show title. Search can find items in personal server libraries and Plex’s streaming catalog, show other ways to watch, and let you add a title to your Watchlist—even if it has not been released yet.
For a title that is not immediately playable, check its details and any listed alternatives. A search result is not itself confirmation that the title is currently available from a service you can access.

Save possibilities to the Universal Watchlist
- Open a title in Discover or its details page.
- Choose the option to add it to the Universal Watchlist.
- Open Watchlist later to revisit saved titles and check their listed sources.
On Android TV, you can pin Watchlist in the sidebar. When Discover is pinned, titles on your Watchlist that become streamable can appear in an Available From Your Watchlist row in Discover and Home.
Use Home for a quick scan
Plex Home may show rows such as Continue Watching, recommendations from your libraries, Live TV, On Demand, and Discover. The library-related rows depend partly on choices made by the server administrator. If Discover is useful, pin it from the sidebar’s More area; Plex may otherwise place it among the additional sidebar destinations.

If personal server titles are missing
Check how the media library is configured. Plex says personal movie and TV libraries need to use its Plex Movie or Plex TV Series agents for Discover matching. Server content in libraries using older or third-party agents is not supported by the Universal Watchlist documentation, so those titles may not appear in Discover or be saveable there.
