To find every Dude Type in How Many Dudes?, recruit from the choices offered during runs, then check Collections for undiscovered entries and use the official Dudex to identify them. Those are related but different goals: seeing a Dude in a run is not proof of a permanent character unlock, and filling the collection also involves Stars and higher Tiers. The available official information does not provide a verified, character-by-character unlock list, especially for the newer Sports family.
The safest approach is therefore a tracking routine rather than a guessed unlock table. Record what Collections says you have discovered, use the Dudex to confirm what each entry actually is, and treat a missing recruitment offer as a run-specific availability issue until you have checked the other possibilities. This avoids confusing a recruitable Dude, a collection reward, and a character created by a Relic effect.
What does “unlock every Dude” mean?
It can mean finding a Dude Type in your collection, recruiting one during a particular run, or discovering every type for the “I’m Every Dude” achievement. The game’s published information treats run recruitment and collection progression as separate systems; it does not establish that each character has an individual permanent-unlock quest.
| Goal | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Recruit a Dude for a run | Have a Dude join the team during that run. | Review the recruitment choices offered at the Dude Ranch and choose among the available options. |
| Discover a Dude Type | Record a type as discovered in the game’s collection. | Check Collections for undiscovered entries, then consult the official Dudex to identify the type. |
| Complete collection progression | Earn the collection’s Stars and progress through its Tiers. | Work through the relevant collection goals; some require Tier 2 or Tier 3. |
| Earn “I’m Every Dude” | Meet the published condition of discovering every Dude Type. | Use the in-game collection to track discoveries. The achievement guide does not settle whether newly listed Sports types count toward its counter. |
These goals can overlap, but they should not be treated as interchangeable. A Dude absent from one run’s offers may still be available in the game, while a collection can remain incomplete even after recruiting many different Dudes. Conversely, seeing a name in a directory does not automatically prove that the entry is an ordinary recruit; some entries are tied to Relic effects or summoned groups.

Is there a permanent character-unlock system?
A common question is, “Is there a way to unlock more Dudes permanently?” The available descriptions do not give a universal permanent-unlock route. They describe recruiting Dudes at the Dude Ranch during a run and separately describe filling a collection by earning Stars and moving through Tiers.
An unaffiliated roster FAQ says the original 42 types were available from the start of runs and that the recruitment pool varies. That is useful context for the original roster, but it should not be stretched into a guarantee about every entry now shown in the official Dudex. The official Dudex includes a Sports family that is not part of the developer homepage’s original 42-Dude, six-family description, and the retrieved pages do not state the Sports prerequisites for every platform.
In practical terms, “permanent” can describe a type being recorded as discovered in Collections, not necessarily a character that can be selected freely before every run. If you want a type in a specific team, you still need to see it among that run’s recruitment choices. If you want the type to count toward discovery or an achievement, use Collections as the authority for whether it has been recorded.
How do I recruit Dudes during a run?
Start a run and make recruitment choices from the options presented at the Dude Ranch. The offers are run-specific: the unofficial roster FAQ says the recruitment pool varies, so there is no supported guarantee that every named Dude will appear in a single run.
- Begin a run. Go to the Dude Ranch when the game presents recruitment choices. The relevant decision is the set of offers visible in that run, not a master list of every Dude in the game.
- Read the offered choices. Review the available flyers and other recruitment options. A familiar family name or a desired ability may not appear on this visit, and the published information does not promise a particular order or selection.
- Recruit from the choices available. Build the team you want for that run. Recruiting a Dude here proves that the type joined this run; it does not by itself prove that you have permanently unlocked a selectable character.
- Note what you saw. If you are working toward discovery, remember the Dude name and later compare it with Collections. This prevents you from assuming that a team roster is the same thing as a completed collection.
- Check Collections after discovering types. Use the collection display to see whether the type has been recorded. A completed run with several recruits can still leave undiscovered entries.
If you are hunting for one specific type, a missing offer in the current run is not by itself evidence that the character is locked. The available sources do not document a reroll method, a guaranteed flyer rotation, or a way to force a named Dude into the recruitment pool, so avoid relying on an unverified trick. Starting another run and checking its offers is the supported response to a variable pool; it is not a promise that the next run will contain the target.
How should I plan repeated runs for discovery?
Use each run as an opportunity to inspect the pool, not as a test of whether a permanent unlock code worked. At the Dude Ranch, compare the names offered with the entries still marked undiscovered in Collections. If none of the offers match, finish or leave that run according to your normal play and check again on a later run. The published material does not provide a reset cost, a refresh currency, or a guaranteed encounter condition, so do not budget around any of those mechanics.
Keep two notes separate: “I recruited this Dude today” and “Collections shows this type as discovered.” The first is a run record; the second is the progress state relevant to collection completion and the “I’m Every Dude” achievement. This distinction is especially useful when a type appears through an unusual mechanic, because a summoned character may not represent a normal recruitment offer.
There is also no supported requirement to win with every type. The achievement wording concerns discovering every Dude Type, while ordinary run building is about selecting useful options from the pool in front of you. You can therefore pursue discovery without turning every run into a full roster showcase.

How can I identify a missing Dude Type?
Use the game’s Collections interface to locate undiscovered entries, then look up the relevant type in the official Dudex. The Dudex is the reference for Dude names, families, abilities, and associated Relics; the game’s clickable descriptions can clarify labels whose meaning is not obvious.
- Open Collections in the game. Find the undiscovered entry or incomplete category you want to investigate. The developer describes the interface, but the published information does not specify an exact menu path, so the wording and location may depend on the game’s UI.
- Use clickable descriptions. Select an entry or explanatory label when available to read its in-game description. This is the best first check when the label is ambiguous or when a name sounds like an effect rather than a character.
- Look up the name in the official Dudex. Check the Dude’s family, Ability, and associated Relics to distinguish a character type from a collectible or an effect that creates characters.
- Compare the result with your goal. If Collections still marks a type undiscovered, you are pursuing discovery; if you only wanted a particular team member for one run, you need to see that type among that run’s offers.
- Check the installed build when necessary. A Dudex entry can document a type without proving that the same content is active on every platform version. This matters most for the Sports family.
Butterscotch Shenanigans describes each Dude Type as having different baseline Stats, a unique Ability, and a collection of Relics associated with it. That makes the Dudex useful for more than matching names: it can help explain why two entries that sound related do not represent the same recruitment or collection objective. Do not infer a hidden unlock requirement from an Ability description unless the game itself states one.
Do I need Tier 2 or Tier 3 to complete Collections?
For full collection progression, yes: the developer’s full-release guide says players will need to reach Tier 2 and Tier 3 at some point. It also says some early higher-Tier rewards are available, and that higher-Tier Silver and Gold Stars for Relics and Trinkets can count retroactively toward lower Tiers.

This is guidance about filling out the collection, not a per-character unlock rule. The guide does not say that each Dude requires a distinct boss victory, a separate mission, or a particular Tier before that Dude can be recruited. Tier progress and Dude discovery can therefore advance alongside one another without being the same checklist.
- Do not assume Tier 1 must be completely finished first. The developer says higher-Tier Relic and Trinket Stars can backfill lower Tiers.
- Use the collection’s own progress indicators. They show which Stars or entries remain, while the developer’s guide does not supply an individual prerequisite list for every Dude.
- Separate a missing character from an unfinished collection reward. A missing Dude Type and an incomplete Relic or Trinket Star are different kinds of progress.
- Look for early higher-Tier rewards. The guide notes that some higher-Tier rewards are available early, so a reward appearing before every lower-Tier task is finished is not necessarily an error.
- Let retroactive credit work for you. A Silver or Gold Star earned at a higher Tier for a Relic or Trinket can apply to lower-Tier progress, reducing the need to repeat an identical objective solely to fill an earlier slot.
If your goal is collection completion, pursue the Stars and Tiers shown by the interface rather than waiting for a supposed character-specific unlock mission. Nothing in the published guide turns Tier 2 or Tier 3 into a universal gate for every Dude Type.
What is known about the current Sports Dudes?
The official Dudex currently lists a Sports family, but its presence there does not verify that every platform build includes the update or that all entries are ordinary recruits. As of the official pages retrieved on October 29, 2026, individual prerequisites and platform-by-platform rollout status are not established.

The Sports family page names Basketball Dude, Broadcaster Dude, Coach Dude, Football Dude, Hockey Dude, Soccer Dude, Streaker Dude, and Tennis Dude. Do not interpret that directory list as proof that all eight can be recruited in the same way: the page describes Streakers as appearing in battle through the Sports Relic called Streakers. The other seven have Dude entries on the family page, but their availability and any prerequisites are not verified across platform builds.

When a Sports name is missing, use this order of checks:
- Confirm that the name appears in the official Dudex and note its family and listed mechanics.
- Check whether your installed game build has received the Sports content. The directory alone cannot answer that for Steam, Android, or iOS.
- Look in Collections for an undiscovered entry rather than assuming the absence of a recruitment flyer means a lock.
- For Streaker Dude, verify whether you are seeing a Relic-created group in battle; that is not evidence of an independent recruitment offer.
- Do not publish or rely on a precise Sports unlock table until the platform and prerequisites are confirmed.
There is also a count discrepancy to keep in mind. Butterscotch Shenanigans’ homepage describes the original roster as 42 unique Dudes across six families, while its currently accessible Dudex includes Sports as another family. Treat 42 and six families as the original homepage description, not as a confirmed total for the current Dudex. The homepage also advertises more than 850,000 team compositions; that is a developer-stated variety figure, not a measurement of how many characters you have unlocked.
How does “I’m Every Dude” relate to unlocking characters?
The published achievement condition is to discover every Dude Type. It does not say that you must win a run with every Dude, recruit every type into one team, or defeat a different boss for each character.

Use Collections to track discoveries rather than counting the Dudes recruited into a single team. A run can expose you to several types while leaving other entries undiscovered, and a directory can contain entries that are summoned or otherwise handled differently from ordinary recruits.
The achievement guide does not resolve whether the newer Sports entries are included in the counter, so the Sports rollout and achievement condition should not be assumed to match across every game build. If your achievement remains incomplete after Collections appears full, first verify that the relevant build and update are installed, then inspect the collection entries again. Do not assume that replaying a boss or repeating a particular mission will fix the counter; no such requirement is published.
What should I check if a Dude seems unavailable?
First determine whether the problem is a run-specific offer, an undiscovered collection entry, or a difference between the Dudex and the version installed on your platform. Each calls for a different check, and the available published information does not support a universal unlock fix.
- The Dude is not among this run’s choices: Recruitment offers vary, according to the unofficial roster FAQ. Check again in another run rather than concluding the type is permanently locked.
- The Dude appears in the Dudex but not in your game: The official directory alone does not establish whether the relevant update has reached your platform build. Verify the installed game version and whether that build includes the Sports content.
- The collection shows incomplete progress: Look at the specific entry or Star requirement. Collection completion can require Tier 2 or Tier 3, and the developer says some higher-Tier Relic and Trinket Stars apply to lower Tiers.
- You are counting a summoned character: Check whether the Dudex describes the entry as a Dude Type or whether it appears through a Relic effect. Echo Dude and Skeledude appear among Dude Types, while Streaker Dudes are described as spawned by the Streakers Relic; a directory entry count is not automatically a count of ordinary recruitable characters.
- You expected a permanent selection screen: The published descriptions do not promise that recruiting a Dude once creates a permanent pre-run roster slot. Use Collections for discovery status and the Dude Ranch for run-specific recruitment.
- You cannot find a menu described online: The developer confirms clickable explanations and a Collections interface but does not publish one exact menu path. UI labels can differ by version, so follow the visible Collections and Dudex links rather than a guessed button sequence.
Why a character-by-character unlock table would be misleading
A table that assigns every name a boss, Tier, cost, or secret condition would imply facts the published pages do not provide. The official material explains the recruitment setting, collection progression, and Dudex information, but it does not list a separate permanent requirement for each original Dude. The Sports page adds another complication by combining ordinary-looking Dude entries with Streaker Dudes created by a Relic.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse a table only for facts the interface actually confirms on your build: the name shown in Collections, the family listed in the Dudex, the Ability description, and any Relic association. Do not convert a family page into a promise that every row is recruitable, and do not convert a missing flyer into proof of a lock. This conservative method is slower than copying an invented checklist, but it keeps your achievement and collection tracking accurate.

Do I need special hardware, a physical guide, or a purchase to unlock Dudes?
No specific physical product is documented as part of the unlock process. A boxed copy, printed guide, licensed toy, collectible, or extra gaming accessory would not supply a verified in-game requirement. The developer’s homepage links to Steam, Google Play, and the App Store, which identifies the available storefront paths but does not establish a separate unlock purchase, referral program, or promotional code.
Choose the platform on which you play, keep its game build current, and use the in-game Collections and official Dudex information to track progress. Store availability, device compatibility, and update timing can differ, so a listing on one platform is not proof that the same roster is active everywhere.

Butterscotch Shenanigans links the game from its homepage to Steam, Google Play, and the App Store. Steam lists July 30, 2026 as the release date and identifies Butterscotch Shenanigans as both developer and publisher. The existence of those store listings does not establish that every platform has received the same roster update at the same time.

A practical checklist for finding every confirmed type
- Start a run and inspect the Dude Ranch recruitment offers.
- Recruit from the choices presented; do not expect every name in one run.
- After the run, open Collections and mark which types are actually recorded as discovered.
- For an unfamiliar name, read the clickable in-game description.
- Use the official Dudex to confirm the family, baseline Stats, Ability, and associated Relics.
- Keep ordinary recruits separate from characters created by Relic effects.
- For collection completion, work through the Stars and be prepared to reach Tier 2 and Tier 3.
- Take advantage of the developer’s stated retroactive credit for higher-Tier Silver and Gold Relic or Trinket Stars.
- For Sports entries, verify the installed platform build before assuming a prerequisite.
- Use the Collections discovery state—not a single team roster—as your progress check for “I’m Every Dude.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Does each Dude have a different ability?
The official Dudex says each Dude Type has different baseline Stats, a unique Ability, and a collection of Relics associated with it. If two names seem similar, check their individual Dudex entries rather than inferring their mechanics from the family name.
How many Dude Types are in the game now?
The developer homepage’s figure of 42 Dudes across six families describes the original roster, while the current Dudex also lists Sports. The available official pages do not establish a single verified current total across all platform builds.
Can I play How Many Dudes on a phone?
The developer homepage links to Google Play and the App Store, as well as Steam. Store availability, device compatibility, and whether a particular update is installed can vary by platform and region.
Is a Streaker Dude recruited like the other Sports Dudes?
The official Sports Dudex page specifically associates Streaker Dudes with the Streakers Relic, which causes them to appear in battle. It does not establish that Streakers are independently recruitable in the same way as the other listed Sports entries.

Why did the Dude I want not appear at the Dude Ranch?
The recruitment pool varies, according to the unaffiliated roster FAQ. A missing offer in one run is therefore not proof of a permanent lock. Check Collections and look again on another run; no guaranteed reroll method is published.
Does recruiting a Dude once unlock that character forever?
The published descriptions separate run recruitment from collection progression and do not promise a permanent selectable roster slot after one recruitment. Confirm discovery in Collections, then treat future Dude Ranch offers as run-specific.
Do I have to finish every Tier 1 Star before moving on?
No such order is stated. The developer says full collection progress eventually requires Tier 2 and Tier 3, and higher-Tier Silver and Gold Stars for Relics and Trinkets can count retroactively toward lower Tiers.
Does “I’m Every Dude” require winning with every character?
Its published condition is discovering every Dude Type. It does not state that you must win a run with each type or defeat a separate boss for every character. Use Collections to track discovery.
What are Echo Dude and Skeledude?
The Dudex lists Echo Dude and Skeledude among Dude Types. Their appearance in the directory should still be checked against the in-game description and your goal, because a directory entry is not automatically evidence of an ordinary recruitment offer.
Why does the official homepage say 42 Dudes when the Dudex shows Sports?
The 42-Dude, six-family statement is the developer’s original homepage description. The currently accessible Dudex separately lists Sports, so the older figure should not be treated as a confirmed current total for every platform.
Is there a cost or physical item needed to unlock a Dude?
No specific physical product, accessory, referral, or separate purchase requirement is documented for Dude discovery. The relevant actions are run recruitment, Collections tracking, Dudex reference, and collection progression.
