Start with the service’s own disclosure or credit, then verify that the artist profile, metadata and rights information belong together. Spotify can show AI Credits and an AI Persona badge; YouTube Music partners can mark releases “Fully Gen AI,” “Partly Gen AI” or “No Gen AI.” Those labels answer an authorship question, not a misconduct question. Report a track when you can identify a concrete problem—such as an unauthorized voice or identity imitation, copyright or trademark infringement, a release attached to the wrong artist, deceptive metadata, spam or artificial streaming. Preserve the exact track and profile URLs, screenshots, visible credits and the UTC time before filing through the route that matches the harm.
How can I check whether a song is AI-generated?
Use native platform disclosures and credits first. They are more useful than guessing from the sound, because a polished vocal, unusual phrasing or repetitive arrangement can occur in both human and AI-assisted music.
Spotify: read AI Credits and the AI Persona badge separately
Spotify’s AI Credits can identify AI involvement in vocals, lyrics, instruments or other contributions when the information is supplied. An AI Persona badge applies to a profile whose public artist identity is AI-generated. It does not mean that every track on that profile was made with an AI tool, and the absence of a badge does not prove that a recording contains no AI assistance.
Open the track’s credits and the artist profile, then compare the displayed artist name, biography, image, social links, label and release history. Spotify also has a content-mismatch route for music that appears on the wrong artist profile. Save both URLs before reporting because profile placement and metadata can change.

YouTube Music: look for partner-supplied Gen-AI metadata
YouTube’s music-partner delivery process accepts three values: “Fully Gen AI,” “Partly Gen AI” and “No Gen AI.” Partners provide that field when delivering music. If no value is supplied, YouTube may use other signals and may leave the status unknown unless it can determine one. A listener normally cannot add or correct the field directly; report the underlying rights or policy problem instead.
Apple Music: detection is discussed mainly in stream-manipulation reviews
Apple Music Provider Support describes proprietary detection for AI-platform-generated content in the context of suspected stream manipulation. Apple says every suspected stream-manipulation incident is reviewed by a human before content is taken down. That is not a listener-facing badge for every AI-assisted song, so do not treat the lack of a visible label as evidence either way.

Does AI use itself violate a streaming service’s rules?
No. AI assistance and misconduct are separate questions. A release can lawfully use generated drums, an AI-assisted lyric, a synthetic backing vocal or another tool if the uploader has the necessary rights and describes the contribution accurately.
The strongest reportable cases involve a specific harm:

Spotify states that unauthorized vocal impersonation is not allowed: “Music that clones an artist’s voice without permission is removed from Spotify, whether or not it uses the artist’s name.” Its policy announcement likewise says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist authorizes the use. The policy targets the unauthorized identity use, not the mere presence of a generative tool.
What clues suggest that a track may be AI-generated?
Use clues to decide what to investigate, not to declare authorship. Repeated templated hooks, nearly identical drum patterns across a large catalog, implausibly high release volume, generic or inconsistent metadata, little evidence of a real artist’s activity and odd vocal artifacts can justify a closer review. None proves that a recording was generated by AI: prolific human producers, session singers, aliases and automated mastering can create similar patterns.

Check the catalog pattern
- Compare several releases by the same profile rather than one song.
- Look for identical phrases, arrangements, cover-art templates or credits appearing under different names.
- Check whether release dates and labels are plausible for the claimed artist.
- Compare the profile’s biography, social links and prior work with the new release.
Listen for artifacts without treating them as a test
- Consonants or breaths that blur unnaturally at the same points in every chorus.
- Pronunciation, vibrato or emotional dynamics that change abruptly between phrases.
- Instrumental parts that repeat with tiny, unnatural variations.
- Lyrics or metadata that contain generic filler or contradictory names.
Write these observations as “possible indicators” in a report. Do not write “this is definitely AI” unless the platform, rights holder or uploader has confirmed it.

Preserve evidence immediately, especially when a release is impersonating an artist or sitting on the wrong profile. A platform can change a title, credit, profile placement or availability after you first hear it.
- Copy the exact links. Save the track or video URL and the artist-profile URL. If an album or playlist is involved, save those URLs too.
- Record identifying data. Note the track title, artist name, album, label or distributor, visible credits and the ISRC or catalog number when shown.
- Capture the screen. Take screenshots of AI labels, credits, the profile biography, copied imagery or name, playlist placement and any mismatch. Include enough of the page to show the service and date context.
- Write the time in UTC. Record when you observed the issue, including the date and time zone. This helps distinguish a metadata change from a mistaken recollection.
- Describe facts, not conclusions. Explain what you saw—such as “the track appears on a profile whose biography identifies a different band”—and identify the policy or rights concern you want reviewed.
- Keep originals. Do not edit screenshots or convert detector output into a definitive claim. Store the original files and a short text log of URLs and observations.
How do I report an AI-related problem on Spotify?
Choose the route that matches the harm. A general “AI song” complaint is less actionable than a specific infringement, impersonation, mismatch or artificial-streaming report.
For copyright, trademark or impersonation
Use Spotify’s infringement or rule-violation reporting path when the release copies protected material, uses a trademark deceptively, impersonates an artist or violates another platform rule. Include the exact track and profile URLs, the relevant screenshots, your explanation of the unauthorized identity or copied work and any ownership or authorization information available to you.
If the issue is a cloned voice, identify the real artist and explain why the vocal is an unauthorized imitation. Spotify’s stated policy is that a clone can be removed even if the track does not use the artist’s name, so the voice comparison and rights-holder evidence matter more than the title alone.

Use Spotify’s suspicious-playlist or artificial-streaming route when the concern is manipulated plays, paid placement or a network of repetitive releases designed to generate streams. Attach the playlist URL, track links, dates, repeated patterns and any messages or offers that suggest manipulation. Do not classify an unpopular or heavily repeated song as fraud without evidence of the behavior.

Spotify introduced a deterrent charge to labels and distributors for flagrant artificial streaming effective April 1, 2024. That charge is an account-side enforcement measure, not a fee a listener should attempt to collect or prove from a single play count.
For a release on the wrong artist profile
Use the content-mismatch route when a song is attached to an unrelated artist. This remains a valid report even if the audio is entirely human-made. Supply the affected profile URL, the track URL, screenshots of the conflicting biography or discography and the correct artist’s official links if you have them.
For artists, labels and distributors
Send the same evidence to the distributor or label that delivered the release. Their account-level records may show the uploader, delivery metadata, authorization documents or other information unavailable to a listener. Ask them to correct metadata, remove an unauthorized asset and preserve the delivery record while the platform reviews the case.

Report the concrete rights or policy violation through the available YouTube reporting or copyright process and include the track or video URL. Explain whether the issue is unauthorized voice imitation, copied composition or recording, misleading identity, wrong artist association, spam or artificial engagement.
The “Fully Gen AI,” “Partly Gen AI” and “No Gen AI” values come from music partners’ delivery metadata. Listeners generally cannot add that designation themselves. If a label appears wrong or absent, describe the observable rights or metadata problem rather than demanding a particular value; the partner and YouTube can determine whether the disclosure needs correction.
For a rights-holder complaint, identify the protected work, the material allegedly copied, your authority to act and the location of the infringing content. Keep the language precise: a detector score or a vocal resemblance can support context, but it is not a substitute for ownership or authorization evidence.

What can I do about AI-related content on Apple Music?
Apple’s provider guidance discussed here concerns suspected stream manipulation and says a human reviews an incident before takedown. If you are an artist, label or distributor, use your provider’s Apple Music escalation route with the track, catalog identifier, playlist or account evidence and a description of the suspected manipulation or rights violation.

Listeners should preserve the same evidence set—URLs, screenshots, catalog data and UTC timestamp—and contact the rights holder or distributor when no direct listener form addresses the issue. Avoid presenting an internal detection result as a public finding; Apple’s review process, not a listener’s inference, determines enforcement.
Are third-party AI-music detectors reliable enough to prove a claim?
No authoritative comparative accuracy evidence establishes that a detector can conclusively identify AI-generated music across genres, languages, mastering chains and model versions. Use a detector score only as corroboration alongside native credits, metadata, catalog evidence or a rights-holder statement.
Detector results can change after a file is transcoded by a streaming service, mixed with live or human-recorded parts, or processed by a new generation of models. If you include a result, name the tool, date, analyzed file and score, and label it “may be AI-generated.” Never report a score as proof of infringement or impersonation.

- Save the profile and release URLs, screenshots, catalog numbers and UTC timestamps.
- Compare the disputed audio, artwork, title, credits and biography with your controlled originals.
- Gather authorization records, contracts, registration details or a statement from the impersonated artist.
- File the platform’s infringement, impersonation or mismatch report and send the packet to your distributor or label.
- Monitor related profiles and releases for copies, alternate spellings or reuploads.
- Keep a log of case numbers, platform replies and any metadata changes.
Do not ask fans to mass-report a song without a documented basis. Coordinated reports that contain inaccurate claims can delay legitimate review and may create a separate dispute over harassment or abuse of reporting tools.

Which reporting route should I choose?

What mistakes make an AI-music report less useful?
- Reporting the technology instead of the harm: “This used AI” is not the same as “this clones an artist without permission.”
- Relying on one listening impression: A strange timbre or repetitive chorus is a lead, not proof.
- Skipping the profile check: A wrong-artist upload can be fixed through a mismatch route even when no AI is involved.
- Omitting identifiers: A title alone may match several releases; include URLs and an ISRC or catalog number when visible.
- Using altered evidence: Cropped or re-encoded files can hide the context reviewers need.
- Filing every concern in one category: Separate impersonation, copyright, mismatch and artificial-streaming evidence so the correct team can act.
- Overstating certainty: Use “possible,” “appears” or “may” for inferences and reserve definitive language for verified facts.
What happens after a report?
Platforms may request more information, change metadata, move a release, restrict an account or remove content. Response times and disclosure practices vary, and a lack of immediate public action does not prove that a report was rejected. Keep your case number and continue monitoring only through lawful, non-harassing channels.
Spotify says it has removed more than 75 million tracks since September 2025; that is Spotify’s own aggregate figure and does not identify how many removals involved AI. Treat it as evidence that large-scale enforcement exists, not as a prediction that every report will result in takedown.

- Have you saved the exact track, profile, album or playlist URL?
- Did you record the title, artist, label, credits and ISRC or catalog number if available?
- Did you capture the AI disclosure, profile mismatch, copied identity or playlist evidence?
- Did you write the observation and UTC timestamp without asserting an unverified conclusion?
- Did you select the route for infringement, mismatch, spam or artificial streaming rather than a generic complaint?
- If you are the artist or rights holder, did you notify the distributor or label as well?
- Is any detector output clearly labeled as supporting evidence rather than proof?
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a human-made song still receive an AI label?
Yes. A partner may disclose partial AI use for one element, such as an instrument or lyric, even when the performance and production are human. The label describes declared production involvement, not a judgment about artistic authenticity or legality.
What if the artist says the voice was authorized but I still suspect impersonation?
Save the artist’s statement and report the specific evidence rather than arguing about intent. The platform or rights holder can request authorization records that listeners cannot verify from the public track page.
Can I report a song that is merely low quality or repetitive?
Poor quality and repetition alone are not generally proof of a rule violation. They become relevant when combined with evidence of spam, deceptive metadata, unauthorized identity use or artificial streaming.
How can I tell whether a profile mismatch is accidental?
Look for a sudden release that conflicts with the established biography, genre, location, social links or discography. You do not need to determine who caused the error; document the mismatch and let the platform correct the profile association.
Should I download a streaming track to run a detector?
Only use a copy you are lawfully permitted to analyze and preserve the original stream information separately. Transcoding and platform processing can affect detector results, so a score from a downloaded file should remain supplementary evidence.
