To print a useful desk accessory, find a model on an established 3D-print repository, check its dimensions, files, print notes, and license, then prepare it in a slicer configured for your printer and filament. A listing is only a starting point: confirm the design suits your desk, the objects you want to store, and your printer before making it.
Where to find desk accessory models
Start with established model repositories. Prusa’s model-source guide names Printables and lists Thingiverse, Pinshape, YouMagine, Yeggi, MyMiniFactory, and Cults3D as other places to discover models. Some platforms offer both free and paid designs; this is a starting list, not a ranking or an exhaustive directory.
Search with phrases that describe the object or its purpose, such as “3D printed desk organizer,” “desk organizer STL,” “3D print tools desk organizer,” or “desk organizer pen holder.” Listings may use different names for similar items, so try a few terms and inspect the actual model rather than relying on a title or preview image.
Choose a model that fits your desk and use
Desk accessories can hold pens and pencils, support a phone, gather flash drives and business cards, corral small items, or keep maker tools such as pliers, rulers, and knives together. For example, a Printables desk organizer listing describes spaces for phones, writing and maintenance tools, flash drives, and business cards; another listing is aimed at 3D-printing tools and small office supplies. These are community-created examples, not independently tested recommendations.

Check dimensions and compartments
Compare the model’s stated dimensions with the space available on your desk, and check that the complete part or each separate piece fits your printer’s build volume. Review compartment dimensions and layout against the items you plan to store: a holder is useful only if your pens, tools, or other objects fit and remain accessible.
Review print effort and requirements
Look for the number of pieces or plates, any stated print duration, orientation or support guidance, and whether a supplied profile is intended for your printer. Check material and assembly instructions too, including any required inserts or hardware. For instance, one community listing recommends PLA/PETG and 15% infill, another specifies PLA, and a separate organizer listing names M3x4x5 mm brass threaded inserts for assembly. These are creator-provided notes for individual designs, not universal settings or engineering recommendations. Follow the instructions for the model and verify that your printer supports the chosen material.

If you need filament, PLA 3D printer filament is one material named in the cited organizer examples. Before using any spool, check that its diameter and material are compatible with your printer.
Download the model and prepare it in a slicer
A slicer turns a 3D model into printer instructions called G-code. Prusa’s model-source guide identifies STL, OBJ, and 3MF as common downloadable formats and recommends those formats for models intended for PrusaSlicer. Use the workflow below with your slicer; menu names and available features vary by software.

- Download the model files or project. Read the listing’s instructions and note which files belong to the design. A project file may include more than the model geometry.
- Open the files in your slicer. Inspect the shape and scale. Confirm the displayed dimensions make sense for your desk and intended objects, and that the part fits your printer’s build volume.
- Select the profile for your actual printer and filament. Check that the printer profile and material settings match the machine and filament you will use; do not assume a profile from a listing matches your setup.
- Orient the part and review supports. Use the creator’s model-specific guidance where available. Check the slicer preview for support needs and make sure the part is positioned as intended.
- Review the estimate, then slice. Check the slicer’s material and time estimates, adjust settings if needed, and generate G-code for the selected printer.
- Send or transfer the G-code to that printer. Only use pre-sliced G-code if it was configured for the same printer and relevant setup; otherwise, slice the model for your own machine.
PrusaSlicer and Printables integration
Prusa documents an option to browse Printables from within PrusaSlicer starting with version 2.9.0. Its Printables-in-PrusaSlicer guide says users can download STL or 3MF files or projects through that integration. This is an optional Prusa-specific route; you can also download files from a repository and open them in a different slicer.
Prusa also describes sending G-code directly to a printer through Prusa Connect. The documented workflow requires being logged in with the account associated with the registered printer and using G-code sliced for that same printer. These requirements apply to that Prusa workflow, not to printing with other slicers or printer platforms.

Check the license before sharing or selling
Free or downloadable does not automatically mean a design can be redistributed or sold. Prusa’s guidance on model sources notes that licenses can require attribution or restrict commercial use. Read the current license on the individual listing before sharing the digital file, remixing it, or selling a printed object, and credit the creator when required.
Terms can be more restrictive for a particular design. For example, the MakerWorld round desk organizer listing prohibits redistribution and commercial use of the digital or printed object and derivative works without permission. Follow the terms attached to the exact model you use rather than assuming one repository’s rules apply to every design.
