Yes—you can use an iPhone to locate a compatible Apple TV remote. Apple calls the control Find; its instructions describe a growing circle and “far,” “near,” and “here” prompts. Apple’s remote-specific documentation does not say this is AirTag-style UWB Precision Finding, so don’t expect documented directional arrows.
What “Precision Finding” means for an Apple TV remote
Apple provides a proximity-guidance feature for an Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote (2nd generation or later). When you use Find, the iPhone’s screen indicates whether you are far from, near, or at the remote, and the circle grows as you get closer. Apple does not describe this remote feature as AirTag-style Precision Finding or specify its radio technology in the cited instructions.
That distinction matters because Apple’s separate developer explanation of ultra-wideband (UWB) precision ranging describes estimating distance from signal strength and packet timing; it does not establish that the Apple TV remote locator uses UWB. What you need
- An iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
- An Apple TV running tvOS 17 or later.
- An Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote, 2nd generation or later.
These are the requirements in Apple’s instructions for a lost Apple TV Remote.

How to find the remote with your iPhone
- Open Control Center on your iPhone.
- Tap Apple TV Remote.
- Choose the Apple TV from the device list.
- Tap Find beside the lost remote.
- Follow the on-screen prompts, using the circle and far, near, or here labels to guide your search.
Apple notes that you may need to move around to establish a connection with the remote. If the locator does not connect immediately, move to another spot and try again.
Why “Find” may not appear
Check the requirements first: the iPhone must have iOS 17 or later, the Apple TV must have tvOS 17 or later, and the remote must be a 2nd-generation-or-later Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote. Then open the Apple TV Remote control in Control Center and select the Apple TV before looking for Find beside the remote. Apple’s setup guidance does not list a separate AirTag, remote case, or accessory as a requirement.

How this differs from AirTag Precision Finding
The remote feature and AirTag Precision Finding should not be treated as interchangeable. In Apple’s cited remote instructions, the documented guidance is a growing circle and proximity labels. The documentation does not promise directional UWB arrows for locating the remote, nor does it identify the remote locator’s radio mechanism. Apple’s general UWB description is not evidence that the remote uses that technology.

If the compatible iPhone locating flow does not help and the remote is lost or damaged, a replacement may be an option for compatible Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD models. Check Apple’s lost-remote support page for compatibility guidance. You do not need to buy a replacement simply to try the iPhone locating feature.
