To find a game’s AI disclosure, open the official Steam store page for that exact game and search for the heading AI Generated Content Disclosure. Read the developer’s full statement, note what it covers, and record the date you checked. If the disclosure is missing or unclear, treat AI use as unconfirmed—not as proof that the game did or did not use AI.
Where is the AI Generated Content Disclosure on Steam?
Look on the game’s official Steam store page, not just in a search result, community discussion, review, or third-party listing. Valve says its developer Content Survey includes an AI disclosure section and that much of the submitted disclosure appears on the game’s store page so customers can understand how the game uses AI.
Open the store page for the specific game and use your browser’s find function to search for AI Generated Content Disclosure. If the heading appears, read the complete statement beneath it. Do not stop at the heading or at a short excerpt: the details determine whether the disclosure concerns assets made during development, material on the store page, content players encounter in the game, or content generated during play.
- Open the game’s official Steam store page and confirm that the title and page refer to the game you mean.
- Use the browser’s find command—typically Ctrl+F on Windows or Linux, or Command+F on macOS—and search for AI Generated Content Disclosure.
- Read the entire developer statement, including any explanation of the content involved and whether generation happens during gameplay.
- Save the exact wording or a faithful quotation, the game or app identity, the page URL, and the date you checked.
- Classify the claim by scope before drawing a conclusion about what players will see or experience.
If the heading is not found, check that you are on the official store page for the right game and that the page has finished loading. If it is still absent, record that you found no visible disclosure on that page on that date. That is a description of the page, not a finding that no AI was used.

What does a Steam AI disclosure actually tell you?
The disclosure is the developer’s public statement about AI use in the scope it describes. It can help identify what the developer says was generated and when, but it is not a complete independent audit of every tool or process used by the studio.
Valve’s original policy distinguishes between pre-generated content—made with AI during development—and live-generated content created while a game runs. For live generation, developers must describe guardrails intended to prevent illegal output. A useful disclosure should therefore be read for both the kind of content involved and the point in the process when it is created.
A January 2026 clarification reported by Game Developer describes the section’s current focus as AI used to create content that ships with a game and is consumed by players. Examples include artwork, sound, narrative, localization, store-page material, and marketing assets. Efficiency gains from AI-powered development tools are not the focus of that section. This distinction matters: an AI-assisted workflow does not by itself establish that players receive generated content, while a store-page disclosure may concern associated marketing material rather than an in-game feature.

Classify the statement by when and where the content appears
- Development-time or pre-generated content: Material made with AI during development and then included in the release. Look for the specific medium or asset named, such as artwork, sound, text, or localization.
- Store or marketing material: AI use in the store page or related promotional assets. This is relevant to the disclosure, but does not by itself show that the game generates content during play.
- Content in the game: Shipped material players encounter, such as visual, audio, or narrative content. Check whether the statement describes fixed, pre-generated assets or an interactive feature.
- Live-generated content: Material created while the game is running. Look for what the system generates and what safeguards the developer says are intended to prevent illegal output.
These categories can overlap. For example, a developer might disclose generated artwork used in the released game and separately describe a live feature. Preserve those distinctions rather than compressing them into the broad claim that “the game uses AI.”
How can you tell whether a game used generative AI?
Start with the wording on the official store page and keep your conclusion no broader than the statement. If it names a particular asset or feature, report that scope. If it only mentions AI generally, do not assume which tool, content, or part of the game it means.
For each statement, ask:
- What is involved? Does it name artwork, sound, narrative, localization, code, marketing assets, or a runtime feature?
- When does AI act? Was material generated during development, or is it created while the game runs?
- Where does the result appear? Is it part of the game, the Steam store page, marketing, or an experience players interact with?
- How specific is the claim? Does it identify a concrete asset or feature, or merely describe an AI-assisted process?
- What is said about safeguards? For live generation, does the developer explain the guardrails it says are intended to prevent illegal output?
A statement about using AI-powered tools to improve development efficiency is not, on its own, evidence that players receive AI-generated content. Likewise, an AI-generated store image does not establish that an in-game character, dialogue system, or other runtime feature uses AI. Treat each claim according to its stated subject.

If you need to make a claim beyond what the store page says, look for an attributable statement from the developer or publisher. Keep that statement separate from the Steam disclosure and identify its source. If no attributable explanation resolves the question, label it unconfirmed rather than filling in the gap with inference.

A missing or vague entry does not prove either that AI was used or that it was not used. It means the public information you checked does not establish the point you are investigating.
Valve’s store-page disclosure reflects information submitted by a developer; it should not be treated as an exhaustive verification of every tool used to make a game. A visible statement is evidence of what the developer says about the scope it names—not independent confirmation of every underlying production detail. Conversely, silence on the page is not a reliable basis for a claim of no AI use.

Use precise, bounded wording
- If the statement names a medium, say that the developer disclosed AI use for that medium; do not extend the claim to unrelated parts of the game.
- If it describes a live feature, distinguish content generated during play from fixed assets created before release.
- If it refers to store or marketing material, do not present that alone as proof of an in-game AI feature.
- If the page has no visible disclosure, say that no disclosure was visible on the page when you checked. Do not convert that observation into “the game uses no AI.”
- If the wording is broad or ambiguous, quote or summarize it accurately and mark the detail you want to establish as unconfirmed.
This approach is especially important when comparing games or discussing a specific allegation. A broad label can hide meaningful differences in content, timing, and player exposure.

Compare what each developer actually disclosed, not just whether one page contains an AI label and the other does not. Record the scope and wording for each game, then assess the differences without treating either statement as an independent audit.

When one page is silent and another contains a detailed statement, the fair comparison is that one developer disclosed more information on the pages you checked. It is not proof that the first game used no AI or that the second used more. Steam pages and policy language can change, so a saved date is part of an accurate comparison.

How much does Steam’s AI disclosure data show about games overall?
The AI Transparency Index reported 26,450 tracked disclosures in 2026 and groups examples into categories including development only, store or marketing only, content in the game, and live AI during play. The Index says its count is not a census of all Steam games, and it warns that missing or unclear statements cannot establish AI use.
The figure is best treated as context about the Index’s tracked disclosures, not as a prevalence rate for all Steam games. The Index is continuously updated and uses its own classification process, so its total can change and depends on what it tracks and how it categorizes statements. It cannot answer whether a particular game used AI; the game’s own disclosure and attributable developer statements are the relevant evidence for that question.

Can I search Steam for every game that discloses AI use?
A tracked-disclosure index can help you explore examples, but its coverage and classifications are not a census of Steam games. For a claim about one title, verify the game’s own store page and preserve the page wording and date.

Does a disclosure prove that every AI-generated asset is identified?
No. The store-page statement is the developer’s disclosure, not an independent inventory of every production asset or tool. Phrase conclusions as what the developer disclosed, rather than as a complete audit.
Can the disclosure tell me which AI model a developer used?
Only if the developer’s statement actually names it. Do not infer a model, vendor, or tool from a general description of AI use.
Can a developer change the disclosure later?
Store-page content and policy language can change, so a past copy records what was visible at that time rather than guaranteeing what the page says today. If the wording matters to a later discussion, recheck the page and note the new date.
