Steam does not provide a dedicated, built-in library switch for “games made with generative AI.” The practical way to screen your collection is to use SteamDB’s Instant Search or a SteamDB list, choose the AI Content Disclosed user tag, and then include or exclude that tag. Open each game’s Steam store page afterward and read its AI Generated Content Disclosure; that text tells you whether the developer disclosed pre-generated assets, live runtime generation, store-page material, marketing content, or another use. Treat the tag as a disclosure lead rather than a complete safety guarantee: an untagged game may still use generative AI, and a tagged game may use it only in promotional material.

What is the most reliable way to find AI-disclosed games on Steam?

Use SteamDB to create an include or exclude list, then verify every result on the current Steam store page. This two-stage process is more dependable than searching titles, reviews, or screenshots because Valve’s disclosure text is the underlying evidence that SteamDB indexes.

  1. Open SteamDB Instant Search or a SteamDB event/list page in a browser.
  2. Expand Filter by user tags and search for AI Content Disclosed.
  3. Select the tag to include games with a matching disclosure, or select its exclusion option to hide those games.
  4. Limit the results with SteamDB’s other controls, such as library state, game type, operating system, and features.
  5. Open each candidate’s Steam store page and read the complete AI Generated Content Disclosure section before deciding whether it belongs in your personal allowlist or blocklist.

SteamDB is an index and filtering layer, not the authority that writes the disclosure. The store page is the place to check the latest wording, because a developer can revise a disclosure after a patch or a change to its marketing materials.

How do I include games whose developers disclosed generative-AI use?

Including the tag produces a working list of games for which SteamDB has found the specific Steam disclosure text. It is useful when you want to investigate AI use, follow changes over time, or separate disclosed titles from the rest of your library.

Set the tag filter

  1. On SteamDB Instant Search, click the user-tag filter field.
  2. Type AI Content Disclosed; choose the exact tag rather than a similarly named community tag.
  3. Set the tag to the inclusion state. Keep the filter set to the library state you need if you are looking only at games you own, wishlisted titles, or a particular event list.
  4. Open a result in a new tab and compare its Steam store disclosure with the SteamDB result.

The tag can be combined with SteamDB’s type, system, feature, and other filters. For example, you can narrow a long event list to demos that have a disclosed-use tag, or restrict a search to titles that support a particular operating system. The exact controls can change as SteamDB updates its interface, but the tag name is the key to the workflow.

How do I hide disclosed-AI games from a SteamDB list?

Choose the exclusion state for AI Content Disclosed. SteamDB then removes products whose store pages match the disclosure text, while leaving games without a matching indexed disclosure in the results.

Use the visual filter

  1. Open the same Instant Search or list page.
  2. Find AI Content Disclosed under Filter by user tags.
  3. Click the control that changes the tag from included to excluded. The exact icon or label depends on the current SteamDB layout.
  4. Check that the resulting list count changes and that a known tagged title disappears.

Use the documented URL parameter

A February 2025 implementation described by Video Games Chronicle lets you append &tagid=-1368160 to a SteamDB list URL. The negative tag ID requests exclusion. This is useful for bookmarking a filtered event list or sharing a repeatable search, but it is still an index query: it does not alter your Steam account, hide games in the Steam client, or guarantee that newly disclosed titles are immediately indexed.

Can Steam itself filter my library by generative-AI use?

There was no native Steam browse filter for this purpose in the February 2025 reporting that documented the workflow, so SteamDB supplied the practical include/exclude layer. Steam’s client library filters can organize games by categories and ordinary user tags, but they do not provide a Valve-maintained “generative AI” switch that automatically classifies every owned title.

You can still use Steam’s own collections after doing the research: create a collection for titles you have checked, or move games you do not want to play into a private category. That manual step is separate from SteamDB’s discovery filter and must be repeated when a game’s disclosure changes.

What does the “AI Content Disclosed” tag actually prove?

The tag means SteamDB found the specific AI disclosure text on a game’s Steam store page. It proves that a disclosure was present for the indexed page; it does not prove that generative AI powers gameplay, that every visible asset was generated, or that the use remains unchanged today.

Possible areas covered by a disclosure

  • Shipped game content: pre-generated images, voices, text, models, music, or other assets included with the release.
  • Live or runtime generation: material created while the game is running in response to player input or changing game state.
  • Store-page material: screenshots, capsule art, trailers, descriptions, or other assets used to market the product rather than to run the game.
  • Community or ancillary content: a stated use that appears in a user-facing product area but is not central to the playable systems.

Valve’s developer survey distinguishes pre-generated from live-generated AI content and asks developers to explain how it is used. That distinction is why the store wording matters more than the tag alone: two tagged games can have very different effects on play, performance, moderation, and ownership of the assets.

How do I read a Steam store AI disclosure?

Open the game’s store page and locate AI Generated Content Disclosure. Read the explanation as a classification, not as a marketing slogan, and note exactly where the developer says AI appears.

Record these details

  • Whether the content is pre-generated or live-generated. Pre-generated material is made before release and shipped with the game; live generation happens during play and can vary from session to session.
  • The asset type. Look for explicit references to art, animation, voice, music, text, code, dialogue, or other media.
  • The location of the use. The disclosure may refer to playable content, optional features, community material, the store page, advertising, or a combination.
  • The scope. Phrases such as “some assets” or “certain promotional materials” are narrower than a statement that generated content is a core game system.
  • The date and page state. Store copy can be edited, so save the page date or your own note if you need an auditable record.

Do not infer a type of use that the developer did not state. If the page mentions generated promotional artwork but says nothing about in-game assets, classify the title as a marketing disclosure rather than a gameplay-AI title.

What is the difference between a third-party tag and the current store-page wording?

The tag is faster for discovery; the store disclosure is stronger for verification. SteamDB applies the tag when the relevant text appears on a Steam page, while the page itself can contain the qualification needed to judge player impact.

Check What it tells you How to use it
SteamDB “AI Content Disclosed” tag SteamDB indexed a matching disclosure on the product page. Use it to include or exclude many titles at once.
Current Steam “AI Generated Content Disclosure” The developer’s stated category and explanation of AI use. Use it to decide whether the use affects gameplay, optional content, or only promotion.
Your play-impact note Whether generated material is visible or interactive during your use. Use it for a personal allowlist, classroom policy, or content-screening rule.

When the two disagree, treat the live store page as the current reference and regard the SteamDB result as a stale or incomplete index until it refreshes. A page can also be edited between your first search and your later purchase decision.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does a missing tag mean a game contains no generative AI?

No. An absent tag only means SteamDB did not find a matching disclosure in its indexed data at the time you searched. The developer may not have disclosed the use, the page may not yet have been indexed, or the use may fall outside the wording that Steam requires or SteamDB recognizes.

For a high-confidence decision, inspect the store page directly and look for developer announcements, patch notes, or support answers that clarify a vague disclosure. Those additional statements are context, not a substitute for the store section, and they can become outdated as the product changes.

How many games are covered by the filter?

Coverage is dynamic, and the numbers reported at different points are not interchangeable. Video Games Chronicle reported in February 2025 that more than 4,900 games had an AI Generated Content Disclosure section. That figure describes pages with the section at that time, not a permanent total of games using generative AI.

For a concrete event-list example, the same reporting described a Steam Next Fest list containing 2,186 demos, with 92 removed by applying the exclusion filter. That is a result for that list and date, not a percentage that can be applied to every Steam event or to your entire library.

SteamDB’s current tag page can display “100 products match your filters” because the page limits the number of products shown. That display is a result-page cap, not a reliable count of all tagged products. Use pagination, a narrower query, or the underlying store pages when you need to examine more than the visible set.

How can I build a personal no-generative-AI list?

Separate discovery from your final decision. The exclusion filter gives you a first pass, while a short record of each store disclosure prevents ambiguous titles from slipping into a collection you intend to keep AI-free.

  1. Start with the broad exclusion. Apply the negative tag to a SteamDB list or search and export or bookmark the resulting URL.
  2. Check borderline titles. Search the title directly on Steam and read the full disclosure, especially when the game is important to you or the tag result looks surprising.
  3. Classify the use. Mark each title as playable content, live runtime generation, promotional/store material, or another category explicitly named by the developer.
  4. Choose your policy. You might exclude every disclosure, exclude only live or playable generation, or allow marketing-only use. Write the rule before judging individual games so that your decisions are consistent.
  5. Maintain a Steam collection. Put checked titles into a collection such as “AI disclosure reviewed.” Steam collections are your manual record; SteamDB remains the discovery tool.
  6. Recheck after major updates. Revisit games that add new modes, characters, voice packs, or online features, because the disclosure may be revised.

This approach avoids treating a binary tag as if it answered a policy question that is actually about where and how content is generated.

How should I screen a game for AI art, voices, code, or live generation?

Use the disclosure’s own nouns and verbs, then ask whether the material reaches the player during normal play. “Generated promotional images” and “characters respond with generated dialogue at runtime” are materially different statements even though both trigger the same SteamDB tag.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Art and images

Check whether the wording refers to concept art, store images, textures, character portraits, or assets shipped inside the game. A disclosure limited to advertising does not establish that the playable art was generated.

Voices and music

Look for a statement about synthetic voice performances, generated narration, music, or sound effects. If the page does not identify the medium, do not assume that “audio” means voices or that “content” means every asset.

Text and dialogue

Distinguish authored text that was assisted during development from dialogue generated live for players. The former may be a pre-generated asset; the latter can change at runtime and may have different moderation and reproducibility implications.

Code and development assistance

A store disclosure may not enumerate every tool used during development. If the page says nothing about code generation, the SteamDB tag alone cannot establish that the game’s programming was produced by an AI system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Live generation

Live generation should be treated as its own category because the output can vary, require network services, or be affected by later model changes. Confirm that the developer actually says generation occurs during play before assigning that label.

What are the filter’s main limitations?

Knowing the failure modes keeps the filter from creating false certainty. Four limitations matter most when you are trying to avoid generative-AI content rather than merely find disclosed titles.

  • Disclosure is voluntary in practice from the player’s perspective. A developer can omit a use, describe it broadly, or fail to update the page when the product changes.
  • Indexing has a delay. SteamDB must observe and process the store text before the tag can appear, so a newly edited page may not be reflected immediately.
  • The tag is broader than gameplay. It can cover store-page, community, or marketing assets, which may have no effect on an actual play session.
  • Result counts are contextual. A list, event, filter combination, and date determine the result; the visible 100-product page limit should not be mistaken for total coverage.

These limitations do not make the workflow useless. They define what conclusion you can legitimately draw: “a matching disclosure was indexed,” not “this is the complete set of games that use generative AI.”

What should I do when a SteamDB result looks wrong?

Check the source page, the exact tag state, and the age of your bookmark before assuming the filter failed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the store page directly. Search for the disclosure heading and read the current text.
  2. Confirm the filter mode. Make sure the tag is set to inclusion when you are finding games and exclusion when you are hiding them; the icons can be easy to misread.
  3. Remove conflicting filters. A system, type, library-state, or event filter can remove a title even when the AI tag is correct.
  4. Refresh the SteamDB page. A cached result or an old bookmarked URL can preserve a previous query.
  5. Record the discrepancy. Note the store-page wording and date if you need to make a purchasing or moderation decision.

If the store page has a disclosure but SteamDB does not show the tag, use the store page for your decision and try the search again later. If SteamDB shows the tag but the current page no longer contains the section, treat the tag as historical evidence and do not present it as a current disclosure.

Can I use this method on Steam Next Fest demos and event lists?

Yes. SteamDB’s event and list pages accept the same user-tag filtering approach, so you can exclude disclosed titles from a large demo list before opening individual pages. The February 2025 example of 2,186 Steam Next Fest demos and 92 removed by the exclusion filter shows how useful the bulk operation can be, but event lists change and should not be treated as fixed datasets.

After filtering, open the remaining demos individually. A demo’s disclosure may describe the full game, the demo build, or marketing assets, and the wording can change before release.

Is there a way to automate a permanent Steam library blocklist?

The documented workflow creates a filtered view; it does not modify your Steam library or prevent a tagged game from appearing in the Steam client. You can bookmark a SteamDB URL, maintain a Steam collection, or keep a spreadsheet of checked titles, but each option is a separate manual record.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume that a negative tag URL will keep itself current forever. SteamDB’s index, the store disclosure, and the game’s content can all change, so revisit saved searches when you are making a new purchase or applying a strict policy.

What is the practical decision rule?

Use the AI Content Disclosed exclusion filter as a fast first pass, then verify the current Steam disclosure and classify the location of the use. If your rule is “no disclosed generative AI anywhere,” exclude every verified disclosure. If your concern is player-facing generation, allow a title only when the page limits the use to non-playable marketing or other material outside the experience you are screening.

That distinction gives you a defensible result without claiming that SteamDB can reveal undisclosed use. It also keeps the policy understandable when a game’s assets, modes, or store text change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I filter only games that generate content live while I play?

Not with a separate SteamDB tag documented for that purpose. Filter for “AI Content Disclosed,” then read each Steam disclosure and keep only pages that explicitly describe generation during runtime; a broad tag match does not identify the timing by itself.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will excluding the tag remove every AI-assisted game from my Steam account?

No. Exclusion removes products with a matching indexed disclosure, not products whose developers stayed silent or whose pages have not been indexed yet. For a strict policy, check individual store pages and relevant developer updates as well.

Why does SteamDB show only 100 matching products?

The tag page limits the number of products displayed in that view. The visible cap is not a count of all games carrying the tag; narrow the filters or move through the available result pages to inspect more titles.

Can a game’s AI disclosure change after I buy it?

Yes. Developers can revise store text when they add features, replace assets, or change how a system works. Revisit the store page after major updates if the distinction between pre-generated and live-generated content matters to you.
